What makes this wolf unique is that he hits players for Shadow damage rather than physical damage. Hunters who tamed him used to get this effect, but now it's just a normal wolf.

I've been very lucky about Lupos, I have met him 3 times in total, so he really dosen't feel so "rare" for me.
He's a beauty, too bad he shares the looks of the worgs in Alterac Valley, or else I would really have kept him as a pet.

All the times I have met him around 48.0 - 17.0.

Ive just killed this mob on my way to Stormwind on my horde hunter, Horde can kill it. The cloak dropped and im gonna use it on my shammy or rogue. Its pretty nice for the lvl. Sentry Cloak is an upgrade for this cloak

Found him in about 10 minutes or searching to the north east of raven hill cemetary. Still does shadow damage. Will keep around for a while and see if the sahdow damage stays after 1.9 patch.

Was an easy tame... im a lvl 26 right now

If you ask me blizz is nerfing alot of pets, why?
Is it to make other pets look better? Is it to upset the players?whats the point in trying to find a good pet if theyre all nerfed?You may as well just grab a pet you would have normally killed thinking all the pets are alike besides their lookks. sure bears ahve more armor and cats have goood dps. but really, I think blizz should stick with the special moves for these pets instead of dissapointing everyone who has them.

I got this pet and hes lvl 29 and so am I (lvl 29 NE hunter named Taranas on Llane) He wooops butt in Warsong Gulch and holds aggro very well. Now i need to get good armor and weps, Ive heard skinning helps, Is that true? Im just dissapointed hes getting nerfed =-(

I can't seem to find him on the Kil'Jaeden server.... If any would mind helping me out that'd be nice. My friend got him in 6 hours, but I'd rather not look that long. Sooo, any help is appreciated.

Ok, people say that he only spawns in twilight grove, yet on the map on here, it says he can can spawn in behind the Raven Hill cemetary and even in barrens! I gave up on trying to find him about a week ago, but i would really like to know for the record why he was so god damned hard to find! So does anyone know where he spawns for sure? because i have learned notto trust the maps on here entirely.

i have seen Lupos like 2 times the latest 2 days.. and both of the times he have been killed right infront of me.. that pisses me of..

but does anyone know if Lupos shows on the minimap when you have "track beasts" acivated?

i just found lupos =) and succeded in taming him.. i found him at 60.25 in duskwood..

Was looking for Lupos and using macro as I ran around from Ravenhill back to road and all of a sudden he popped up on target. I had my good pet (Humar, so had to run to stable fast and swap out to raptor. Luckily he was still right where he was (37,28) when I first saw him and noone else had came by. Dismissed raptor, set ice trap, concussion shot, started taming and he was mine. What a powerful pet with the extra shadow damage. I sure hope they don't nerf it in 1.9 patch.

at lvl50 my lupos can take down anything... :( 100 damage to a raiding wolf... high stam... and 150 damage to a duel w/ a lvl60 rogue... now... down to 55... plain... :(

I tamed this pet one week ago on Terenas and I my new pet Smith (Lupos) too happy to find such a special pet. Tryed today just to see his damages are now physical and no more shadow =(
Still leaves a nice big white wolf as a pet ^^

if you dont wanan wait for the spawn in a few lvls get Ghostpaw Alpha hes an all white wolf Very good dmg and Pursuit speed awesome in BGs and its so easy to find ... Dont wait 8 hrs for a wolf with same stats Trust me Ghsotpaw is Easier and Better looking

About 12:30 pm server time.

His exact location was 37,27... dunno if that is where he pops every time or not.

My temporary pet attacked and almost killed him. I dismissed pet, let Lupos kill me, then ran back ASAP to tame him.

Concussion shot and freezing trap and he was mine.

Very sexy pet.

I was camping this baby on my 23 hunter, i know he dont do shadowdmg anymore but he looks good and kicks ass. so i see him but cant get to him as he has lots of wolves near. so i start killing them next thing i know a 21 druid has killed it saying it was him or me. Why didnt he run the river was about 7 meters away even tho i had /w him telling him not to kill it. what is the spawn time on it so i know when to come back. noob druid

Was on my way to the Brightwood Grove to tame a wolf to learn bite 4 - from Raven Hill Cemetary along the Darkend Bank. when l got to the east side of Darkend bank where Brightwood Grove starts, l got attacked by a silver wolf, didnt think nothing of it and kept running, trying to avoid it, when l noticed it was Lupos. So decided to tame it.

Had to run a fair distance to lose its agro by which time l had died from other mobs.

then spent another 30mins avoiding mobs trying to track him down.

Location was around around the 58,22 mark

Tamed easily with a frost trap in place.

Got rid of him to train the lvl 25 Mastiff to learn bite 4

Moral: Sometimes when your not looking for something, its right there! even if you dont need it hahahaha

Going to SFk to tame an Elite Salvering Worg. - 1.2AS +med damage

PS if any hunters want info on pets then check this site out.Has everything a hunter needs to know about pets, AS, DPS, Diet etc etc as well as all locations of where to find everything including all pet skills.

I havent had a problem in WoW finding/taming mostly all of the rare pets. Made a new hunter on the Warsong server recently. Decided I wanted this wolf.. to go with my all white tauren. So, I head over to duskwood when I hit lvl 22, figuring I'd grind the last lvl out on the wolves and maybe spot Lupos in the process. Turns out, I found him immediately when I got there. Frantic, I start grinding lvl 22 out. After 2 hrs.. I'm 2000 xp away from getting 23, and taming lupos. Hadn't seen one alliance, when I see two allies killing wolves in the distance. One spotted me so I pop AOTC and run ALL the way around twilight grove. When I get back to where Lupos was, the lvl 29 dranei shaman is looting him. I couldn't !@#$ing believe it. Tried to kill him, came really close to, but he eventually got me. I had never been so infuriated as long as I played WoW. Anyway, Tomodoare, or whatever his name was... needs to drown in a pool of his own blood.

Update: Logged on when I got off work tonight roughly 20hrs after my horrifying event of last night. I had logged out my 48 BM hunter there just to deal with any alliance that gave my 23 a problem. Mounted up, ran north of the graveyard... and there Lupos was. Logged onto my other hunter and got the tame. He is beautiful, and well worth the hassle in my opinion.

I'd been searching for about 3 hrs when I found out that some noob killed Lupos, even though I was spamming that I'd pay the finder 10g to let me tame him! I feel bad for killing Lupos once when I was a noob hunter thinking I could only have 1 pet >,< I'm still searching the northern coast, and does anyone know the spawn rate? Btw, who says Lupos is male? :P

I have played WoW for a number of years now and have only seen Lupos two times between my ten toons. Both times I saw him NE of the Twilight Grove close to the road that runs to Redridge. Easily tamed with a freeze trap. I am a big wolf lover and Lupos along with the wolves in Ashenvale and the Raiding wolves found in Jintha Lor in the Hinterlands tend to be my favorites. Lupos isn't as sleek at the wolves that you can tame in Ashenvale and tends to lope like the wolves found in AV. If you are a wolf lover then I highly suggest taking a look at Petopia. It is a wonderful site and a previous poster gave the link.

i've been playing WoW for awhile and i've only seen lupos once. i am a hunter and was around raven hill cemetary and i was around lvl 35ish and was doing some quests to build my rep with Stormwind and was killing some wolves and suddenly this wolf that looked like a timber wolf started attacking me and i thought that it was some horde guys pet since i was PvP but when i started to kill him i noticed the silver dragon portrait around his picture and after he was killed and looted i went to thottbot and looked him up and thought "this might be a pet worth my time" so i set out to tame this doggy but soon got bored when i read about araga another rare spawn so i gave up on lupos and tamed araga. i am now lvl 43 and i have my first pet a nightsaber stalker i still have araga and tamed king Bangalash recently. i have been thinking about lupos for a few days now since i saw him on my map while flying over darkshire with track beasts on. and i just wanted to know is he worth taming? would it be worth something for a lvl 43 to tame this lowbie wolf and lvl it?

I finally got Lupos after a week and a day near the worgs. Lupos either patrols by the worgs, the very middle of the bank or by Eliza's grave. Good luck!

Hey i made him my pet its awsome and u can find him on the way to darkshire from redridge on the path if ur a hunter then put on track beasts and zoom all the way out so there u go some ideas to help u find him

Since the confirmation of his shadow damage, he's been more and more hunted. Luckily I grabbed him early just so I could have a frostwolf lookalike...little did I know that he would change my entire PvP strategy!

At level 53, he can almost defeat level 55 warriors in one-on-one combat...with no healing from me.

"That dog is tough as nails!" - actual quote from a warrior on my server.

Shreds through warriors and paladins who ignore him because they think he's just another Frostwolf. Can either be BM'd out, or combined with a MM/SV build for truly devastating duo damage. Still, slow attack speed (2.0) makes him just standard against cloth wearers.

All in all, he is a great soloing and PvP pet, but I still use a Frostwolf on raids.

And if Blizz nerfs him, I swear to god I will quit my account. They're already standardizing our pets too much!

Found this guy at around 2am just to test out this shadow damage stuff and its true.

He deals shadow damage instead of physical;
- It can be resisted (fully or partially)
- The attack can miss
- The attack can be parried and dodged
- The attack isn't subject to the enemies AC

Normal wolf stats with 2.0 attack speed (1.54 Frenzy) and a slow-medium pursuit speed.

He just looks like a standard white wolf and he doesn't glow.

Really bizarre pet.

does the shadow damage really make it al that much better? I mean at high lvls wouldnt ppl have some shadow resistance, or do they think its just another frostwolf?

I was wandering duskwood to farm light leather when i saw him.. Finally i knew he were there and wanted to tame him.. I HS back to Darkshire and stored my pet at stable.. WHen i came back the only sign was a mage.. Looking very happy...:(

I found Lupos last night. He is very cool. How can you tell that he is dealing out shadow damage instead of normal? I have watched him closely and have not noticed anything different besides a different sound coming out of his hits. BTW, I named him MoonShine. Seemed fitting. Eaglesclaw. Azjol-Nerub Server.

Found and tamed him northeast of Raven Hill, after 2 days of searching. Helps to set up a simple macro like /target Lupos. Then drag it to a hotkey and spam that as you run along the river.

By the way, kill those wolves and spiders, don't just try to run around them! Wolves can drop Lean Wolf Flanks; 2 of those and 1 Stormwind Seasoning Herbs and you get 3 of these to feed your new friend (since he only eats meat):

Seasoned Wolf Kabob
Requires Level 15
Use: Restores 552 health over 24 sec. Must remain seated while eating. If you spend at least 10 seconds eating you will become well fed and gain 6 Stamina and Spirit for 15 min.

Spiders drop Gooey Spider Legs; 2 of those and 1 Hot Spices will get you 1 of these:

Gooey Spider Cake
Requires Level 15
Use: Restores 552 health over 24 sec. Must remain seated while eating. If you spend at least 10 seconds eating you will become well fed and gain 6 Stamina and Spirit for 15 min.

When the hunt was over and the campfire out, I had over 130 Seasoned Wolf Kabobs, and about 20 Gooey Spider Cakes. If you feel bad about feeding Lupos the kabobs (since he's a wolf), don't worry, he loves 'em!

been camping this guy out all day since 2:30pm.. went out for about 2 hours at 4:00, came home logged on 6:15 till now (12:26) havent seen him at all. been running back and forth between spawn spots, ranked up about 30some Hks, silly alliance ^.^

finnaly gave up and hearthed back to Org... if anyone has aidea about spawn times, plz share with the rest of the hunters.. his shadowdamage quality is very very very very appealing

Getting nerfed in 1.9. Soon he will be a totally standard 2.0 speed white wolf which runs at 115%. Just like the AV Frostwolf, Timber, and countless other white wolves.

I looked him when I was lvl22, so I grinded there and tamed when I level up :P

I found him in the right spot of the map. (64,23)

He wasn't with the other white wolfs. He was with the lvl24-25 black wolfs ("Black Ravagers")

Got him yesterday.

Lost his shadow damage now, so after being tamed he's just a regular wolf.
Looks ok though :)

Came upon a few good resources on finding this pretty guy.

He spawns in Duskwood ONLY, to my knowledge.

The map is correct; but he doesn't travel across the upper part of Brightwood Grove. He either spawns on one side, or the other; which makes this a bit easy.

First, make yourself up a macro to track him. Yes, Hunters, even you. This makes him much easier to spot in the world. Get into your macors menu by typing /macro

Hit "New". Pick some icon and call it something. in the large gray text box, type the following:

/target Lupos

Drag the icon it made onto one of your hotbars.

Now, pick a side to start on: right or left of the Brightwood grove. Start walking around where his recorded spawn points are, and mash that macro button. When he is within targeting range, which is far enough to be fair, you'll target him. Once that happens you'll know you've come upon him. Then, it's just a matter of looking ahead of you till you see him. If you lose him, or he de-targets, backtrack a little and do it again. This is also very handy for finding named mobs for quests, or other rares elsewhere.

Lupos is a good pet but I'm not as impressed as I should be. Took me 3 days to get him, I didn't camp just checked his spawn spots every time I could. I still prefur the Strider Clutchmother, something about a big green bird following you is so much fun. I gess I'm just a sucker for looks.

Accidentally ran across this guy. Was running back to Darkshire when something agro'd me and my pet (I'm a Hunter) grabbed it. I only noticed it was an Elite when I looked up in the corner and saw it's HP bar at half ^_^

I just cant seem to find this puppy, is the map dead on? I guess I just have to keep running up and down Duskwood until he pops again..*sigh

:EDIT: ran into Lupos twice since I first posted, both time he was nearly directly behind Eliza's Grave. First time I saw him, another hunter killed him just for his drop (kinda dumb considering he had a ravager worg from not far away). I missed Lupos's next spawn, but got him today. think he's on a 8-10hr loop.

I tried to find him for 3 long hours in a row, and finally got lucky. He was on the west side, near the "hill". I made a 23 ravager temporary pet there, to work my way through the pops, since I was lvl 23. There is plenty of "Lean Wolf Flanks" there to keep them happy.

I stronly suggest making a maccro with "/Target Lupos" as command, so you don't miss it :) Keep hitting the key untill you finally find him :P
Beast Tracking proved to be quite useful also.

Lupos does use Shadow Damages, which will probably prove to be awesome. I will compare with my 23 Echeyakee's stats and edit my post with more infos soon :)

Got him today in Duskwood, North East of Eliza's grave as others have stated. Had been running up and down the banks for about an hour at least. Came with Bite Rank 3, and is level 23. Good Luck any aspiring Wolf Tamers!

HUNTERS: Allow me to save you a lot of time and suffering, before you attempt to track down this wolf!

It is confirmed that this wolf no longer deals shadow damage instead of physical damage, as of October 2019 (WoW Classic).

This therefore renders this wolf pointless. End of an era for this guy, but it's time to move on to something better.

Deathmaw (level 53 rare) in the Burning Steppes is a really good candidate, as he has a 1.2 attack speed (fastest among all wolves), and looks awesome to boot!

EDIT: A level 19 Slavering Worg from the dungeon Shadowfang Keep in the Silverpine Forest is the only wolf, other than Deathmaw that has a 1.2 attack speed. I know it may seem daunting, but leveling him all the way to 60 isn't that bad. Just go to Winterfall Village with him - or somewhere similar - keep him well fed and just defend him as you kill stuff (he won't even be able to hit anything, but will still level up and gain loyalty levels as you kill furbolgs). I 100% believe this is worth it, as the Deathmaw spawn time is an absolute meme. You'll come out with the fastest attack speed wolf in the game. :)
