Diablo III for Console: Press Kit and PAX East Interview
Last weekend at PAX East, we checked out the Diablo III console demo in addition to covering
Hearthstone, Blizzard's new game
!
While Diablo III may seem easy to adapt for console play, there are a lot of quality-of-life changes:
In multiplayer mode, you'll be able to play side-by-side, as well as via the network. The camera will zoom out to accommodate players separated.
Fewer items drop from mobs, but they tend to be high quality. Items you wish to vendor can also be tagged as junk while fighting.
Higher-quality items drop from the console version because there is no Auction House as a means of obtaining gear.
Console monsters have a staggered combat rhythm, as being surprised by a cluster of mobs is exciting and fun on a PC, but less so with console mechanics.
A new event queue shows recent buffs and items looted. Symbols will pop up for all recent items showing how much of an upgrade or downgrade it is, for easy reference.

Azeroth in Sanctuary: WoW References in Diablo III
With Diablo III out this week, we suspect you haven't totally be focusing on WoW these past few days. We've been having a blast in Sanctuary too, and noticed little details that reminded us of Azeroth along the way, like constantly killing Community Manager Zarhym.
Finding little details like that is a ton of fun, so we put together a list of references between the two games: both references to WoW found in Diablo III, and references to Diablo I and II found in WoW. The Diablo items listed are from our sister site,

[Discontinued] Introducing Wowhead for Diablo: D3DB
Note: this project was discontinued and is no longer affiliated with Wowhead/ZAM/Fanbyte.
Diablo III is in less than a week and we're getting
really
excited here at Wowhead. It's been a long time coming. Of course, as release date nears, we've been getting a lot of questions about Wowhead's plans for D3 since it's so closely linked to World of Warcraft.
We figured it's a good time to remind everyone that there is a Wowhead for Diablo III: Removed. A site built by Wowhead fans, it was acquired a few months ago by the Wowhead team and we've been thrilled to have these guys join our team. As launch day inches closer, their site keeps growing and there's loads of stuff to show everyone.
Some of Removed better known features are:

News Round Up: Diablo III Community Site, Model Updates, and More
There were some blue posts last week and today that mostly dealt with the onslaught of questions about transmogrification, the Darkmoon Faire, and model updates. Yes, model updates--with everything else being revamped, including the long sought after armor customization, a lot of people have been pretty curious about the prospect of new models coming someday.
Highlights from today's news round up:
Replica items may mean that items from DMF may just be art skins, rather than the original gear--so it may be impossible to tell replicas from the real thing.
Death Knights will get their stater gear back, probably set up in Archerus, so non-DKs can't steal their unique armor!

Blizzard at Gamescom: 4.3 Announced, Deathwing, Armor Customization, Diablo 3 News, and More
So things just got really serious--4.3, which was a huge mystery, is now pretty much unveiled at Gamescom. When speaking to
Kotaku
and
Gamona.de
, Tom Chilton was very open in just how much content the patch would have for WoW players. " has a whole bunch of content," he said, "three dungeons for five player instances and a new raid instance culminating in the Deathwing fight."
Of course, it's not just dungeons to be excited for. Those ethereals we mentioned a week and a half ago? They're for what most of us only dreamed in our biggest dreams and Blizzard previously said was impossible: armor customization. "We have a wealth of armor sets we created that people no longer use," Chilton said, explaining why they had chosen to add it in.
What we know about 4.3:
Deathwing in 4.3
According to
Kotaku
: "The Deathwing fight will be the most epic boss encounter to date, including a battle phase that takes pla

News Round Up: Diablo III Auction House News, BlizzCon Contests, and More
Finally, some news on Diablo III was posted overnight from Blizzard on
their official website
. The biggest news was that there will be an auction house that functions with real life money in addition to another auction house that is in-game currency only. They've posted FAQs about both features which tell you everything you need to know and we've included them below.
It's worth mentioning that this bombshell--real life money for items in Diablo III--has been received both extremely positively and extremely negatively. It's created a lot of debate and people are
very
divided about this. Personally, as a WoW fansite, we think this feature can potentially work for the Diablo series but should stay far away from World of Warcraft. However, that's just our personal opinion, and we welcome yours. We can see both sides of the debate clearly and understand people will have different view points.

World of Warcraft's Subscribers Decline and Blizzard Promises Quicker Expansions
Today's
Activision Blizzard earnings call
touched on quite a lot of World of Warcraft and its future as well as a little bit of Diablo III news.
During the call, Blizzard Entertainment's CEO mentioned that subscriber levels had fallen down to 11.4 million this March from its former peak of 12 million. Initially, this seems staggering, but it's important to remember that subscriber levels do not decline linearly and tend to fluxuate. Furthermore, it actually makes quite a bit of sense given two factors: RIFT's launch in March and the absense of a major content patch at that point of time. The new and shiny feeling of Catalysm was disappearing by March and we've only just gotten a new patch a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, 4.1 was fairly light on content for a patch--luckily Firelands will be this summer and it looks much beefier, so it's likely a lot more people will resubscribe to check it out at that point.
In response to the declining subscriber levels, Blizzard has
made some promises for WoW development speeds

Blizzard Looking For Console Developers?
The Diablo III community website was recently updated with a surprising news post from Blizzard, looking for console developers with which to explore a "Diablo-related concept." Interesting...
We’re exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project. If you’re passionate about all things Diablo and have the requisite skill and experience, then head over to our jobs site to check out the positions and apply.
Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don’t intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to
