With Burning Crusade Classic quickly approaching its final content Phase, players are speculating on how Wrath of the Lich King Classic might roll out. We've prepared a list of interesting topics regarding Wrath Classic, such as possible release date, questions regarding Death Knights, and a guess at the content phase schedule.
Wrath of the Lich King Classic has not been announced and this article is entirely speculation.
BlizzCon 2007: Wrath of the Lich King Reveal
When is the Release Date for Wrath of the Lich King Classic?
One of the most asked questions regarding Wrath of the Lich King Classic is when it would release.
Blizzard has already sent out community surveys
and Classic players are quickly approaching the final phase of Burning Crusade Classic. Burning Crusade has only been live for 10 months (launching on June 1, 2021) and we're currently in phase 4 of 5. Vanilla Classic lasted much longer in comparison, and that accelerated release of Burning Crusade leaves many players speculating that Wrath might be coming in the final quarter of 2022. One interesting point, the original Wrath of the Lich King released on November 13, 2008, which would be the 14th anniversary this November.
Also, Blizzard has revealed that
Shadowlands will be receiving a Season 4
, meaning the possibility of 10.0 (the next retail expansion) releasing this year is less than likely. For Blizzard Entertainment, it would make sense financially to try and get a product released this year for World of Warcraft, making the Wrath Classic Q4 2022 speculation much more realistic.
What Quality of Life Changes will be in Wrath of the Lich King Classic?
Wrath of the Lich King ushers in many quality of life changes, such as achievements, the equipment manager, mount collection tab, the barbershop, dual talent specialization, and the Dungeon Finder. Of all of these additions, many of them were requested as features back for the original launch of Classic in 2019 (dual talent specialization being the most asked for).
However, the dungeon finder tool is one of the
major thorns in the side of the original Classic community and can be perceived as being antithetical to the original Classic
. The tool allows groups to automatically form cross-realm for dungeons, requiring no communication amongst party members when forming. While most features are celebrated in Wrath of the Lich King, some players claim that the dungeon finder
ruined
an important part of the game - the social aspect.
It is also possible that Blizzard will release quality of life changes with their respective Phases,
as they did with Guild Banks and the in-game Looking For Group tool
.
Will Death Knights be Available in Pre-Patch Wrath of the Lich King Classic?
The Burning Crusade Classic Pre-Patch allowed players to create Blood Elves and Draenei before the Dark Portal opened, which leads many players speculating that the same will happen with Death Knights in the Wrath of the Lich King Pre-Patch.
This is an exciting opportunity for Wrath Classic, as this was not something players were able to do during the original launch. Instead, players wanting to re-roll Death Knight had to start at Level 55 while everyone else was heading to Northrend at 70. This time however, players might be able to prepare their Death Knights with Sunwell Plateau gear and be on the boats to Northrend at launch!
Will Faction Change & Race Change Service be in Wrath of the Lich King Classic?
The
faction change
&
race change
services were added to World of Warcraft in 2009, roughly one year after Wrath of the Lich King's launch. These paid services will likely be added to the shop in Wrath of the Lich King, as many players will be looking to change factions and race of their characters.
How Many Content Phases for Wrath of the Lich King Classic?
With Classic and Burning Crusade Classic, the release schedule of content has been a major point of emphasis among the community. Looking forward at a potential release schedule for Wrath Classic, players speculate that five phases are the most likely outcome, with the following raids releasing at their respective phases --
Phase 1
: Naxxramas, The Eye of Eternity, The Obsidian Sanctum
Phase 2
: Ulduar
Phase 3
: Trial of the Crusader, Onyxia’s Lair
Phase 4
: Icecrown Citadel
Phase 5
: The Ruby Sanctum
Will Wrath of the Lich King Classic be on Patch 3.3.5?
Just like Classic was on Patch 1.12.1 and Burning Crusade was on Patch 2.4.3, it is very likely Wrath Classic will be on Patch 3.3.5. This means you can expect class balancing, game features, and all changes to be implemented on day one. This has significant impact when it comes to the "meta" and how different things will be compared to how they were in original Wrath of the Lich King. Here is a brief list of some of the most notable changes that took place during Wrath --
Death Knights tuned to Patch 3.3.5
- They were nerfed in multiple patches throughout Wrath of the Lich King, across all specializations
Rogues might have Axes trained earlier
- Rogues weren't able to use Axes until Patch 3.2 originally, which could make the first few phases quite different for Rogues
Racial Ability Changes
- Will of the Forsaken shares a cooldown with PvP Trinket, Shadowmeld drops combat when used, and Blood Fury is no longer on the global cooldown.
Ground mounts can swim in water
- This wasn't added until Patch 3.1
Earn Experience in Battlegrounds
- This wasn't added until Patch 3.2
Faction restrictions from realms removed
- This wasn't added until Patch 3.2
As Blizzard has shown the Classic community, #SomeChanges were a major part of Burning Crusade Classic... If Wrath of the Lich King Classic were to come out, what would you like to see changed?
