Drops off pirates in Stranglethorn and Tanaris. Other then making for a tasty drink, sells for a pretty good amount to engineers looking to make Goblin Rocket Fuel.

Fantastic item. not many people on my server bother to farm this item but I always keep a stack in my bank or inv. so if any Alchemist needs it for goblin rocket fuel. also because the icon for it is in a flask its a good rp item. I call them pirate rum as they drop off pirates and they go along nicely with my pirate outfit :)

Haha, i don't know whether someone discovered it, but you get really drunk from drinking it xD the screen goes blurry and when you walk you swift from left to right :P

Very easy to get hold of, especially as a leveling mage. I had like 12 stacks in my bags at one point because they do drop quite nicely.

The 41 Bloodsail Sea Dog maybe 100% drop, be aware though they are rare and surrounded by other 40-45 Pirates. Make it a drop of 10% to be realistic.

Stomper Kreeg (the drunken, dancing red ogre in Dire Maul North) will sell a limited supply of these after to you do a DM Tribute run and get the Ogre King buff.

I grind pirates for fun while im in queue for AB or somethin.

DROP RATE: 1 Rum on 20 pirates - They all drop it, same droprate

Seriously, thats it. Im mage so i AoE the crap out of them.

PRICE: On our server, BF (EU) this sells from 65silver - 1 gold per fuel.

Droprate seems to be lowered quite a bit! Since rum is needed in the fuel for tier 0.5 quests in 1.10

Prices have gone up. Sell the rum for 2g each now :D

I grinded the pirates for around 3 hours and ended up with 26 volitile rums. The rate is very low, but the payoff for it is worth it.

this goes for about 3-4G a peice on my server (gurubashi), but you can make alot of money off it if your an alchamist, the rocket fuel sells for sometimes 10G a barrel.

I have read that you can kill pirates in Tanais for this Volatile rum,So when i go steamwheedle Point there are 2 quests there that altogether require me to kill at least 50 pirates, had to get pirate hats and kill 10 of each for someone else, so i think, "Wahey i can get rum and grind and be doing a quest", seeing as i was lvl 47 mage i could take upto 4 at 1 time, so i went straight over there, and started killing, killed around about 10 and not 1 dropped but then i thought about previous posts, saying that you might not get it and blah blah, so i carry on killing when i have finshed i have got good exp and ok loot a few green items ect. but no rum,
And thats out of 50 pirates i never got 1 rum not 1, so all of you that give cleverass percentages, like 0.06 percent can shut the hell up, i dont know about other ppl but my luck there was rubbish, but the amount i got from BB was amazing almost 1 every 2 pirates, and since i AoE it was done easy, killing 3-4 in 1 go no problem, so forget Tanaris go BootyBay :)

I cleared the pirates on the beach on the SE side of the Stranglethorn Vale. Cleared both camps, twice. I then swam and wiped all three boats anchored a litte further out in the water. I received ONE volatile rum. What a waste of time.

I recall i had better luck (still a sucky rate, but i got more) in Tanaris, in that pirate area to the southeast.

K, just left BB. Killed enough to get 15 snuff to fulfill that quest. Got 9 volatile rum in the process. I kept it cause I seemed to have remembered seeing something about it with my alchemist. good thing I did. So, the drop rate is sometimes good around Booty Bay. I probably killed about 30 pirates to get the snuff.

these guys tend to drop rum. the thing is they don't drop them as often as they used to. I have a done a study with my friend. There is a quest to get a certain number of pirate hats from them. turns out that if u have this quest they drop them often.

The Results after 1 hour of grinding....

With the Quest: 21 have dropped

Without the Quest: 6 dropped.

Plus they keep on dropping them even after i had the 20 hats, but i didn't turn in the quest yet

Good thing i did this on my friend's character, and not mine :)

I found five on pirate quests, 2 of them, same time, on the coast of Gadgetzan...tried selling them in AH for price suggested by Thottbot, but lots of others are underselling them, practically giving them away. Tempting ides to buy these at a song and sell later at true value, but does anyeone ever get 10 gold for one volatile rum?

i found all of mine in the pirate village just southeast of gadgetzan. I was also doing the pirate hat quest and after killing easily over 50 pirates I only got 7 rums. I don't think they are selling for 10g a piece on my server Azgalor's AH, so I think i'll save them for an alt's alchemy.

if your drunk the level of mobs goes down FOR YOU. it does not become easier hit slower or not as hard its exactly the same as when your not drunk..

I got 10 Rums from the Pirates in Tanaris. I had to come here to find out what to do with them. I almost traded them into a vendor for 4s each. Thank You Thottbot!

This is used in the Goblin Rocket Fuel recipe, which you'll need tons of for the tier .5 armor sets.

I've noticed that this makes mobs appear one level lower than they actually are. I checked online and someone mentioned that this is a stackable effect. Nice.
