I used to farm WC in my late 40's and sell these on the AH for 2 or so gold each. I had about 3-5 drop in one hour of non-stop raptor killing/skinning. This is a nice money making item, especially if you for over a few more gold and craft a Deviate Scale Belt, you can make even more money.

Average price for Perfect Deviate Scales on the AH can range from 1 to 2 gold for each scale -- stacks of 20 = 20g

The reason for this is that they are a key component for the Deviate Scale Belt ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=6468 ), and have a rather low drop rate for skinners.

Example: One run through WC equaled about 8 perfect scales total.

if your grinding the scales... i highly recommending selling them in the form of deviate scale belts... where a stack of 20 scales goes about 20-40g (depends on server) - the belts go for around 25g (from what ive seen pretty common price), and for every stack, u get just over 3 belts (ull get enough deviate scales from the grinding neways).
also, on terms of g/hour u can expect... i was just grinding 2 belts for 2 twinks i have ^.^ it took just 1hour30mins... i was using my level 39 (non twinked) rogue, as a method of earning fast money, this is a good way for skinners/LWs to get their level 40 mounts. if i was selling i could expect around 35-40g/hour for that lot.

The 'quick facts' says it goes for 70c on AH. And thats a load of manure. Maybe more like 90s (on Horde anyway)

I managed to get a stack of 20 after 2 hours grinding on the non-elite's outside the actual instance (lvl 22 hunter with skinning.)
The drop rate is best on the coilers, creepers and stalkers. Don't bother killing the lurkers, their drop rate is dismal. I reccomend clearing out the tunnels, then hitting the chamber. By the time I finished the chamber the tunnels had respawned and I could repeat the cycle.

i always have difficulties getting these but ive tried a few times lol,when i was lvl 29 or so but now that im lvl 41 i think i could reep the benefits a bit more.i made a lot of money off of these but i wouldnt recomend it for lower lvls that have difficulties killing them 1 or 2 at a time it would be slow.sold for about 18g average

I can solo the instance on my 29 twink hunter. One run yeilded about 8-10 scales (that's with me skinning everything). I usually get the most scales from skinning the mobs outside the instance. I get about 6 scales per clearing the cavern, which is enough for 1 belt. It only takes me about 10 minutes to killl everything (if there aren't any horde). By the time I'm done killing everything it's started to respawn on the other end so I clear again. The belts sell for about 30-40 gold on my server so it's definatly my cash cow! And if the horde are being jerks I just solo the instance & sell the greens!

You don't have to be a skinner to get the deviate scales or the perfect deviate scales. I was able to get both with my lvl 60 druid who is not a skinner. I was farming these for my lower lvl rogue who is a leatherworker. Drop rates aren't that great for the perfect deviate scale. I left WC with 15 deviate scales and 1 perfect deviate scale. Unfortunately I think it's just a matter of having a lot of patience to keep farming. On a side note, you have to be a skinner to get those whelp scales in Redridge. Probably why someone thought you had to be a skinner for these deviate things.

Dont bother trying to farm these guys if you arnt a skinner.

Yes its possible to get them without skinning, but you have a chance to get them when you skin them as well.

However its worth it in the long run, twinks eat these belts up in the AH ---> 50g a pop, if not more. I think they raised the drop rate some. I dont go inside WC, i just farm on the outside.

Average 3 per time I clear.

How many runs will it take with skinning to get 10 deviate scales and 10 perfict deviate scales?...Is the belt on AH worth the effort trying to get the scales?...How much does it sell for on average?

This belt is eaten up by twinks. I put on AH and literally a minute later I sold it for 70g! Only took me 2 runs of WC to get the scales and I made another 5g from selling the rest of my regular scales. Just tough it out u wont regret it.

okay just looking at the drop chances on these things is crazy i mean im not sure if its worth my time for just to make a about 15-20g belt

Personaly, I ran WC once skinning everything and came out with 6 perfect and about 15 regular. Then went back and farmed near the entrance for the remaining 4 regular in about 45 minutes.

Talk about luck, one deviate I killed dropped a perfect and a regular and skinned for a second perfect :P

Yeah, it's true that grinding this instance is a pain. You do only end up with one or two Perfect Deviate Scales per run of the intance. Some runs, I left with NO scales, but other times two or three.

I would recommend just doing the first portion with the raptors which is where I found the majority of the Perfect Scale. Took me about 25 minutes per run in Bear form with my L43 Druid. Exit, reset the instance and go again.

It should be noted that while the Perfect Scale will turn the most profit, the instance is loaded with green drops that sell for about 50s each at the AH. May not seem like much, but with all my traveler's backpacks I was full of green items after three or four runs. If you leave with 50 green items for the AH, you can turn a 25g profit just on the drops. Some items you may be tempted to destroy, such as the shoulders off the boss druid which are white, but they still fetch about 1g88s at auction - so hold onto them.

It can be a grind, but a profitable one if you have the patience.

Yea....i have a 41 and a 16 skinner....

Just get yur higher level to kill about 5-6 and loot...then switch char and skin them...then go back,kill loot switch, back, kill loot switch, etc.

you can only go before the instance though* unless different accounts and in same group lol

I've just entered the caverns in search of scales and am a lvl 25 druid with high skinning and i've barely gotten in and i'm getting at least one perfect per 3 guys i kill i have 7 or so and about 8 normal. i'm on the korialstratz server name Micker

4 runs dropped 18 of theese scales, and a hell lot of stuff i could diss on my alt...

Theese belts go like Water ;)

Selling them for 15-20g each at Doomhammer...

I found that the Snakes and the Vipers got the biggest drop rate (44 NE Hunter With Skinning)

If u dont got skinning u get alot less of theese, half of all i got was from skinning....

i ran wc twice, both times i made it clear to everyone in the group that i was the only one skinning. in the end of the first run i had 3 scales, which sold for 4gold in ah. second run i ended up with 5, one actually dropped from a non elite in the instance. anyways, i ended up accidently selling the scales for 5 silver instead of gold. but that's life i guess. i just got lucky with the drops, and i think that the raptors outside the instance have the best drop rate for these

The raptors and flying dragon things bird things have about a .7-1% increased drop rate than the ones inside the instance. I'd recommend farming the outside ones.

Well, I just ran WC yesterday and again today, yesterday I got 6 Perfect scales and quite a few normal ones, and when I ran it again today I got 10 perfect scales and about a stack of 20 normal scales. I got alot from the non-elite deviate pythons i believe they are, but that might have just been luck.

Just ran WC twice, 11 perfect deviate scale. only about an hour of farming. Almost exclusively off of raptors, inside the instance.

i usually fram just outside cos i only 38 warrior but saw a group that needed a tank, i went as tank in the group and at the end i asked for all the perfect and normal scales, got 6 perfect and 20 normal :)

Ran WC 3 times and got 10 total Per deviate scales. Also dropped a Twisted Chanters Staff that I sold for 60g. It's a lvl 19 blue twink.

ALthough you dont have to be able to skin things it does help! got 7 perfect deviate scales off 1 run eith my 53 hunter...then nothing with my non skining 40 rogue - coincidence or luck?

if you have skinning it really does make it easier. i only found 1 or 2 from drop and skinned for about 3 in less than an entire run. my advice would be if you arent a skinner find somebody who is to help you out

My husband and I have been working on farming these and it took us 20 mins and ended up with 5 perfects and 20 others...So it really isnt that hard if you just get a good run. The belts are worth it in the end if you are running a twink like the both of us are.

I found the drop rate much higher outside the instance, and being those aren't elites, to be a much less in terms of arrows wasted. doing this as a 32 Night Elf Hunter, Skinning helps a lot out in this case. I had farmed that little lake outside the instance maybe twice, and in that time collected 6 of the scales (the new amount needed for the only thing these go towards).

Not sure if the value has dropped, but I was selling the belt for 25g in ah with 50g buyout, and people just lit up on me saying thats a rediculous price. They said it was worth about 10g at max. Has the price gone down or..?

Im a lvl 32 rogue and ran the wailing caverns only one time by my self, and by the time i was at the last boss i had 13 perfect deviate scale, i then made the Deviate scale belt 2 times and made an easy 25gold (i sold the belts for about 12g and 50silver each on the realm draenor)

yep...i have the same problems. i am on the alliance and they are never on AH. im making a twink rogue(gnome lol). I keep checking on AH. never knew where to find them so i gueese ill have to go to wc and run it a few times. o jeese

…I rather enjoyed the grind of getting these scales. As a lv49 Hunter, it was simplicity to run WC. My pet can tank 8-9 mobs with ease, probably 12-15 if he could hold aggro better.

In one run, I walked out with 15 greens, 7 Perfect Deviat Scales, 32 Deviate Scales, 5 stacks of Light Leather, and 8 stacks of Medium Leather (I combined all the leather into Heavy Leather to save inventory space, though.)

I just trashed all the grays, not worth it for me to run out of the instance everytime my inventory filled up.

The droprate is okay with skinning. I usually get 6 by clearing out the first room, Anacondra's room, and Cobrahn's room. Sometimes even enough to make 2 belts. It's not too hard to farm them once you get around level 36-40. And with the velts selling for about 20g each, the only thing you'll lose by farming them is time.

dude, i totally wish when my lvl 23 shammy ran wc over and over again that i din't sell these and the regular ones at a vendor, i had like total of 10 pefect and like 30 regular, i coulda made so much money.
so today when my rogue got recipe to make the belt, i ran wc, on the first raptor i killed, i got a perfect, then on the 3rd one, i got a regular, then i got within 5raptors, i got 2 regular and 2 perfect, i must be really lucky lol.

Horrible horrible droprate... a guildie wants the belt, and so I've been trying to get these for him... he ran through (non-skinner), got 2, I ran through myself and got 2 as well, admittedly not killing all mobs. Just gone through again, and only 5. As I'm Alliance, these never come up on the AH, so I'll have to go back again to make the belt. Sigh.

So, why is is my level 32 Tauren Druid (balance) with skinning (that only gets leather from these mobs) has picked up 3 (as drops) before the first hallway?

I was trying to get the Deviate fish recipe, and so sent a level 60 into the cavern (though not the instance). He's a miner, not a skinner, but he did get 1 Perfect and 5 regular (one from fishing).

The drop rate on these seem to have gone up by a long ways, I received twelve of these in one run. Of course I was doing most of all the skinning, but still, I made two belts with that.

And also, the amount needed to make the belt seems to have dropped, I remember it being ten (if that is correct...) and now it is six.

Providing you're a skinner, the drop rate isn't tooawful. I normally get about six or seven on a run through WC (solo), provided I skin everything.

You get very few dropping on the corpses though. Probably one per run at best

Ive been thru this cavern 7 times, with both my lvl 33 and lvl 51 but have only managed to pick up 3 of these....why do they have a pattern that takes so many, yet they are impossible to find?

yo contact xspidey he will make the belt so long as u provide the mats its 10 perfect deviate scales and 10 deviate scales and a couple fine thread he usally sells them in ah around 18-20g also btw he is a NE Hunter on Aerie Peak
