The drop-rate of this is extremly low and nowhere near the defined by wowhead %. I farmed different mobs as stated above in the list and none of them dropped. It's not worth even trying to get the mats for armors that require this unless you buy them off AH.

These drop (at least from the bluegills) on the body. Can't skin, as these are humanoids.

It looks here like the drop chance is pretty high, so i guess it shouldn't be too hard for me to get my hands on these for my breastplate.

actualy, there are some humanoids you can skin, such as worgans and yetties.

maybe im using thotbot wrong but all those drops seem to be in
alliance
territory
...except the silverpine. i went there. nothing but copper drops.

Silverpine Forest, there is a huge lake and an island called "Fenris Isle" - On the right little islands are a ton of murlocs, they drop these easily. And no one comes here. If you have fishing 100+, tons of wreckage pools you can fish for easy loot trunks. Murloc camps often have Battered Treasure Chests too that can be looted.

I often farm this island while waiting for SFK groups to join. Peaceful, no one comes here, also if you're horde you will not flag for PvP on this island.

This is just another one of those items that has a pathetic drop rate. I've killed 50 vile fins on Fenris and I only have three scales. I'm not sure why Blizzard thinks that these ridiculous drop rates are cool. They aren't. It's stupid to make people play for hours upon hours just trying to collect items for crafting, or to complete quests. 3/50 is enough to make me quit this game, except that I always play for free, so it's not my money I'm wasting.

Edit: After posting my original comment, I continued killing these little bas!@#$%, and low and behold.... the next 12 kills yielded 5 scales. That's all I needed to get enough to craft a vest for myself. Amazing how that happens.

Screw off, Blizzard.
