If you are a cook and Barbed Gill Trout cost less than about 2.5 gold / stack on your server, it is worthwhile to eat this instead of whatever food you buy from a vendor.

A stack of these costs 62 silver plus the cost of 20 Barbed Gill Trout.
Level 65 vendor food costs 3g20s for a stack.

To start, we'll assume you're getting the fish for free.

If you buy the spices and port at full price (ie no reputation discount):
1s60c * 20 = 32s for spices
1s50c * 20 = 30s for port
32s + 30s = 62s00c to make one stack of this food.
If you buy the spices and port at minimum price (ie at Exalted reputation discount):
(1s60c * .8) * 20 = 25s60c for spices
(1s50c * .8) * 20 = 24s for port
25s60c + 24s = 49s60c to make one stack of food.
The cost of reagents at the other discounts would be 58s90c at Friendly, 55s80c at honored, and 52s70c at Revered.

If you can't stand fishing and don't know any friendly fishermen, you'll probably be stuck buying the trout off the AH. But when is it a good deal?

At full price (no discount):
62s00c + cost of 20 fish < 3g20s00c, or when the cost of 20 fish < 2g58s00c, buying fish is a good deal.
At minimum price (Exalted discount):
49s60c + cost of 20 fish < 2g56s00c, or when the cost of 20 fish < 2g06s40c, buying fish is a good deal.

There is no recipe for this. You learn it from Kylene at 75,32 in Shattrath. She seems to be a separate cooking trainer that not many people know about yet.

Edit: She was at 75,32 when I found her, but after writing this I noticed she had moved to 75,30. She seems to wander a little.

Trout can be used any way you like.. stew it , boil it , grill it or even as sushi.Here is my faviorite way:

pre-heat the owen to 150 degree Celsius.
Put the whole cleaned fish in aluminum foil,
add 2 tablespoons of butter , juice from half a lemon. Onions if you like it. Different herbs.
Just dont take any from the plant in the closet,you should save that until the weekend.
Wrap it all up and cook it... and voila! the best fish you ever tasted.

It appears that as of Patch 2.5.1 she's not yet teaching these foods as her list is empty.
