This is a great weapon for shaman. Incredible stats and nice proc, Hunters can not use maces so they are out of luck and there is far better in TBC for warriors to choose from.

It's also great for druids, the stats are amazing for a feral druid, however if this wasn't a BOP craftable I think druids would come second to shamans.

The benefit a Ret Paladin gains from this is phenomenal, as the stun proc allows him or her to judge Seal of Command for the higher damage rate. Highly useful, as you can also get off a heal or what not in that time too.

Great for any 2H mace class, everyone can benefit from this.

Yea i guess warriors can use this as well, i go with a 2h flurry build so it cuts the speed in half and crits hard. And replying to above the person it has probably 2-5% chance of stun proc but imagine 3 windfurys (6-15%) of stun proc.

All I can say is that Vitaminik has right ... proc rate is ridiculous ...
But it remains the greatest 2H weapon in the game atm for those classes interested in high dammage, not dps (paladins especialy)

I got the mace ~3-4 days ago, the mace has procced _TWICE_ ... But i still dont regret skilling up bsmith for 2,5k gold and farming heroics for nethers :P

Yea, the price of thorium on my server is crazy, 40g a stack so it took about 500g just to get Blacksmithing from 275 to 330, I had 375 mining all the since 64 so the new bars and stuff weren't as hard to come by. Otherwise blacksmithing is a pain in the butt to level but its so worth it once you get the Stormherald from the last upgrade chain of this. This makes being arms/fury (enough for mace spec and flurry) so worth it when you see a 3 second proc then another 4 second proc. Beware of warriors come this patch day. (The one where druids get nerfed)

The procrate is definitely 5% or less. The procc gets diminishing returns from the mace specc, so this procc is less than 4sec if you got mace specc before it.

This weapon is killer awesome for Enhancement shamans, Retribution Paladin, MS or 2h Fury Warrior. This is the kind of weapon that will get you into raid DPSing for Retribution Paladins (I am one myself.)

Primal Mana x 10: Seems easy considering that mana wraths in Netherstorm drop these motes often.

Primal Nether x 12: The difficulty of crafting this weapon if you are specced for pvp. You either respec PvE or convice your pugs / guild to let you dps (All from a retribution paladin's prespective.)

In the end, this weapon seems worth getting.

So they buffed the weapon a lot and then made it easier to make? Interesting.

Figures, after I have been doing heroics like crazy I am one nether away from making this and they make it so I only need 8 instead of 12. :P Did they change the other mats so that it requires more of something else? Such as Primal Manas, or something new altogether included now?

I dont know if it was just luck, but the proc rate seem to have greatly improved in 2.1.2 for the stun. I counted approximately 1-2 procs every minute, which is a lot more than it currently is.

This weapon is so amazing for PvP, and it's truly an easy upgrade.

8 nethers = 80 badges = 16 Heroic Mech clears

1 hour a day for 16 days and it's yours, and that's assuming you don't win any nethers from the final boss.

Just find a regular Mech group who also want their badges and you're good to go.

I have been using Lunar Crescent for about a month now because im an orc warrior and i've used 2h axes since i was an orc. I started reading posts on Thunder and people seem to like the fact of the stun proc and hp more than the crit and ap because you can just put crit sockets in your armor to bring your 25% mace crit close to 30% if not 30% or maybe even higher. Bigger burst damage definetley looks like its better for pvp but i pretty much do heroics and karazhan 50% of the time and when im not doing that im in BG's and arenas with my lunar and i must say the lunar crescent is a better option for this because even though it falls short to the mace in pvp its much more reliable than the mace in pve. For all those orcs out there with my situation, the orc axe racial guess what... its garbage. Mace for pvp axe for pve, get the gear you need from pve with your axe, save up your nethers and khorium switch to hammersmith make thunder then deep thunder put a mongoose on and you are looking at one bad mother of a warrior. Oh and for the sword.. is it a joke or what.

Crafted this baby a week ago or so and after alot of Alterac Valley and arena id say the weapon procc is probably around 2-3% or so which isnt a huge chance but honestly this weapon excells due to the max damage and the stats. All in all this is a great weapon, best ive ever had... even gives a better feeling than TuF did in pre-TBC

Pair this baby up with 5/5 arena warrior and some BG epics and you got one mean killing machine.

Actually warriors, you can beat any1 without this weapon. All you need is blacksmith hammer...

I have this on my shaman and i can tell you, proc rate sucks big time. Nice windfury's tough. Maybe not the best option since the very low stun rate.

So it could be:
Possibility 1 => 1% (which would be 60 / (100 * 3.8) = 0.16ppm )
or
Possibility 2 => 1ppm (which would be 1 / = 6.3% )

This is perfect weapon for pallys,warrs,and shamys. Paladin can use seal of command when it proc and shammy got chance to stun when windfury proc. And warriors can stunlock they got intercept,mece stun effect and deep thunder stun. It is most useful weapon in wow,ofc not for casters :))

This baby procs, along with the other 2 blacksmith maces, off every warrior skill including:

Mortal Strike
Hamstring
Cleave
Whirlwind

Specially intresting is hamstring proc since with pvp gear the rage gets reduced, allowing in many cases the warrior to spam it in an arena encounter.

I been doing some research and a short piece to paste up here is this:

One thing I've noticed with my Deep Thunder is that it's been proccing at a 4:1 rate compared to my Mace Mastery (Arms Talent) proc. As a result, this is still a very, very viable PvP weapon despite it being lower DPS than even the S2 weapons.

Is this really worth getting anymore? What with season 4 on the horizon and season 2 gear buyable with honour we'll soon all have acess to almost equal weapons to Deep thunder for minimal effort. (28k honour and 40 AV marks)
I'm honestly considering dropping Blacksmithing and picking up another gathering profession.

this would first be made for a warrior... all melee wepons seem to go to the warrios iv seen weps that if used right makes a hunter so much more awesome but warrios get it... this makes me angry. nice wep but it would go to warriors even me as a hunter would give this to a warrior

Scary if this thing is a component in a greater weapon. Probably can be upgraded to legendary... The mats must be so expensive for this, I can't imagine what's necessary for a step up.

The 2nd stage 2h weapon for a master hammersmith in TBC (The mace is the best out of the 3 for pvp, imo). You need to upgrade "Thunder" with 12 primal nether and 10 primal mana to acquire this. Primal Nether and Primal Mana are BoP reagents, making the stage 2 and 3 weapons time sinks, not ez epics. ;p

1. This is a nasty weapon. Warrior, hunter, paladin, shaman- anyone should be happy with this, this... beast.

2.Whatever nether vortex is, I hope they aren't too rare. +9.1 dps and 3 to each stat is hardly worth it imo... unless I'm missing something here.

What a Weapon great stats, DPS and proc, but its BoP. This would be devastating in the hands of a ret pally with SoC or an arms warrior with mortal strike! ALthough it is an upgrade for Master Hammersmiths to get on their Thunder, which Is BoP Wep also. All I can say is, become a Master Hammersmith!

It is craftable, so obviously anyone who wants one should get one... but it is best for ret pallies. Why? Its not the speed, or the stats or anything like that... its that beautiful proc. After all, any time an opponent is stunned, our beautiful seal of command doubles in damage.

I hope you mean Mortal Strike instead of Execute *sigh*

This is what Execute does: Attempt to finish off a wounded foe, causing 600 damage and converting each extra point of rage into 15 additional damage. Only usable on enemies that have less than 20% health.

Execute has nothing to do with the damage of your weapon. You would make just as high executes with a poor dagger, as you would with Deep Thunder...

As druids, we don't get weapon procs in Feral form so the Weapon proc on this thing would be a complete waste. It would better for a Shaman, Paladin, or Warrior since they make the most complete use of this weapon.

You have to be a blacksmith to become either a hammersmith, swordsmith or axesmith. Only a hammersmith can use and make this weapon. As soon as you make it, it's soulbound so don't bother if you aren't a blacksmith. As for who's weapon it is, if you put in the time to get the mats while fending off horde/alliance then you deserve it regardless of race. Thats not that smartest option but thats just my take on it.

The plans for this weapon can be bought at the blacksmith in Shattarah in the Lower City next to the forge. He sells all the high end weapon crafting plans. I'm already on my way to building this baby, farmed my Primal Mana, now I just need to run dungeons to get Primal Nethers. I had one drop the other night off normal Murmur in Shadow Labyrinth.

Crafted this weapon yesterday, out of 12 hours of PvP and PvE with this baby, its only procced 3 times so far, I might have missed a few procs during group fights, but as far as 1v1 goes, I have only seen it proc 3 times. Nice weapon nonetheless, and currently the best attainable in the game, but dont look at the proc as any part of the weapon, it rarely happens.

Dont lie to us please. Hyperlink your armory page so that i can laugh at your your lvl53 Pally with Ice barbed spear. If u knew anything about Slam you would also no it has a casting time of 1.5 seconds...therefore it is useless in pvp as all an opponent has to do is move away....

P.S get your mum to pay for powerleveling. Or buy u a hunter from ebay you special little man

Let me write a few facts about this weapon in one post.

It can proc on windfury.

The stun chance is really low on the weapon.
**Edit: It seems like the stun chance on this weapon has gotten a minor buff - it seems to proc more often right now, but still need to do some testing with this

This weapon is amazingly good for arenas and survivability for a warrior.

The weapon proc does NOT share dimishing returns on mace spec. (Warrior.)

This mace is completely useless for a druid.

The warrior mace specialization itself does share dimishing returns.

The weapon damage has nothing to do with your Execute damage.

Mace spec is not that good for PvE Arms warrior damage as the other specs.

Classes who want this weapon; _Warriors_, Paladins and Enchantment shamans.

You will stun like a mofo with the mace spec if you are a warrior.

Season 2 Gladiator Weapons are not a big buff if you already have this one.

Mace stun is an unique ability, and it gives you a chance to kick anyone's ass in 1vs1 situations. Be that a frost mage or paladin - Mace spec, in my opinion, is the best choice for PvP if you are a warrior. Also, the 3.8 speed really makes a BIG difference compared to Lionheart.

I've had my mongoosed deep thunder for a few months now. I'm a MS/fury warrior.

I notice a lot of people arguing that the crafted axes and swords are better than deep thunder for warriors. These people obviously are clueless to the awsomeness of deep thunder. For pvp deep thunder/storm herald are without a doubt the very best warrior weapons. Nothing is better. Not illidan drops, not arena gear.... nothing.

Not only does DT have incredible stats and damge... but it gives a 5% chance to stun on ANY melee hit. That stun lasts 4 seconds. During that four seconds.... not only can you get in 2 regular swings, a mortal strike, and a whirlwind... but your enemy is doing nothing. He's not casting, he's not healing, he's not punching, he's just sitting there stunned getting his face ripped off by you. No other proc can compare to that.

Now, combine that 5% proc with the 11.8% chance to stun from mace mastery, and 1% chance to stun from the meta gem... that gives you 17.8% chance to stun with each and every hit. (note that when mace mastery stuns proc, you also get bonus rage which allows you to do even more damage after the stun making it that much more devastating).

So, if you do this... you will basically stun lock your target to death:

charge in(2 sec stun) normal attack(this will happen automatically for you the instant you are within melee range)... hamstring, mortal strike(each move takes 1 second on global CD, meaning your target is still stunned from the charge by the time you finish your mortal strike.) Run a few steps away while switching to berserker stance, turn around and intercept(another 2 second stun, regular attack, and mortal strike). Remember, on top of your intercept/charge stuns, each of your weapon attacks has a 17.8% chance to stun.

On average, a good(non-warrior) player has about 8500 life. On average, a well geared war with DT crits normal attacks for 2k, and MS for 3k. That means you have dumped about 7k damage in 5 seconds (assuming one out of 3 hits crits). So, by now your 8500 life opponent is down to 1500 life. You are most likely ready to exeucte, and /teabag. If not, use whirlwind to get his health within execute range.

here is a quick crafted series 2 weapon comparrison of mooncleaver(MC), deepthunder(DT), and lionheart champion(LH).

DAMAGE:
DT: 360-541
MC: 351-527
LH: 341-513
(note all weapons have equal DPS due to speed)

SPEED:
DT: 3.8
MC: 3.7
LH: 3.6

STATS:
DT: 37str(74ap); 36agi(1.2% crit);55stam(550 life)
MC: 106ap; 2.4% crit
LH: 49str(98ap); 44agil(1.46% crit); 5% fear resi

PROCS:
DT: 5% chance to stun for 4 seconds
MC: none
LH: 5% chance to increase str by 100(200 ap)

Okay, now a quick evaluation. Obviously, DT has the highest damage. Meaning every weapon skill that you use which is based on damage will hit harder. For example, deep wounds (60% weapon damage) will bleed for more dmg, your mortal strike (weapon damage+ 260 will hit for more), etc. This includes virtually ALL of a warriors skills, except a few rare exceptions such as rend, execute and revenge. So for a warrior, ultimately... the slower the weapon, the higher the warriors dps... due to the fact that most warrior skills are based on damage. Your mortal strikes, whirlwinds, heroic strikes, etc are all hitting harder with deep thunder. Now with weapon damage aside... if you focus solely on stats... DT is slightly inferior when it comes to pure damage. MC and LH have better AP, and crit bonuses. However, the 550 life is obviously not completely worthless in pvp. And though it seems slim, the 5% fear resist on LH can be a life saver in pvp. Many people... including myself anticipate this 5% to be buffed at some point, but that is speculative. And of course, as was previously articulated... the stun proc on deep thunder is particularly devastating in pvp.

I will now take a few moments to answer questions from the audience:

SANCHO: "dayum deez weapons is rockin yo. how i gets me one of deez?"
ANSWER: You must first level your blacksmithing skill to 350 and choose a mastery from lilth in everlook, winterspring. Then, you can train the ability to craft the weapon relative to your mastery in either shattrath, or your allignment's capitol city. After you have the first tier, and you level your blacksmithing to 375 you can train to make the 2nd tier of your masteries' weapon.

GNOMESROCK: "ok uh you discussed functionality and stuff... but which of these looks the coolest on a gnome?"
ANSWER: In my opinion, Mooncleaver looks the coolest, but lionheart isn't far behind. Deep thunder is a little bit lame, it looks like a 1-hander... but when/if you upgrade it to stormhearald it looks a lot better.

LEGOLAS27747: "yeah, so from what I read here it seems like deep thunder is better for warriors, but my hunter can't use that. which is best for my hunter?"
ANSWER: honestly neither of these crafted weapons are particularly good for a hunter. You are probably better off dual wielding felsteel longblades, or using a sonic spear or something... but who cares, you're a #$%^&*!.

MYGUILDRAIDSK: "which of these weapons is best for a pve warrior?"
ANSWER: A true pve warrior should be dual wield fury... so again, neither. However if you insist on PVEing with a 2-hander you are probably best off with lionheart. This is due to the high speed yielding greater rage generation, and more of the +100 str procs. Also, the sword mastery proc is more effective in pve.

ANSWER: Uhhh, I don't really know what you just said. I think it was something about fury. However I think it is important that you understand pvping for a warrior is all about burst damage. For 90% of a fight with any other class... your opponent is going to be out of melee range. He will kite you, because he knows once a warrior is on top of him he is dead in 2 seconds. So, after the frost novas, ice traps, wing clips, gouges, and earth bind totems etc wear off and you actually get in melee range it is important to take full advantage by dealing massive amounts of burst damage. This is why fury sucks in pvp... although it has higher dps, it has less burst damage.

lol have you guys seen stormherold..........................................best pally wep in the game exept for torch of the damned(essence of anger in black temple drops that). can you imagine the SoC procs with this thing. 579 damage 127 dps and 3.8 speed. i wouldnt be suprised if you could get 2k on a normal SoC proc(non epic) and like 3.5k crit.

This is one of the best PVP weapons for retrebution paladins and MS warriors because it has 3.80 speed, slower weapon means better crits and more dmg with crusader strike/SoC procs and instant attacks for warriors like mortal strikes, the axe(Mooncleaver) has 3.70 speed it may be better for orcs because they have racial skill (Axe Specialization Expertise rating with Axe weapons inceased by 5),The sword( Lionhearth Champion ) is better for pve cause of +100 strenght proc and 3.60 speed.

Enh shamans don't need this. Yes we lack cc but this is not the answer. It's just not. You should be dw. There are no other options.

Yes, your WF crits may be beautiful but only IF they hit. And they can and will be dodged. And you can and will be screwed. Because you're now playing a very dangerous game of luck. Very little luck. And very little luck will not fly well in BG and it won't fly at all in Arena.

This is not the answer. I promise. I'm enh shaman and I have NEVER lost to a 2-handed shaman. Ever. It's not a lack of skill or innovation, we just don't have the right talents and abilities to make love to this weapon like warriors do (and sweet mother they do make love to it).

So before you blow your nether for this, please listen to me when I say you ABSOLUTELY WILL REGRET IT.

Edit: You won't get those big WF crits above 1800 in Arena. I promise.

And I know so much about this because I made one and I DO regret it. And I DON'T get those big crits and I feel like a damn shaman idiot. Leave this alone.

This depends on what you wanna do. If you want to be good all around, then go with Savagery enchant. You won't be great against mage and shadow priests, but you can pull it out if you've got any skill.

If you really want to rip cloties (mage in particular) as a revenge for all the pissy range attacks they do to kite and kill you, then i would say executioner is best. Clothie with even less armor = dead very very fast! At low level armor, you can easily get 10-15% more damage on them and with such a big damage weapon, it shows!

And also, executioner enchant is really good looking compared to savagery which doesnt show unless you are 2 millimiters in full mega zoom on your weapon.

Generally speaking, a shaman doesnt want to use a 2 hander these days. The windfury cool down and speed of the weapons generally dont match up, also you do not get the full benefit of flurry as it tends to wear off before you get enough swings with it. Dual wield with 2x winfury buffs is the way to go. And as damage dealers, shaman are ace. As per aggro control, they are not. Their aggro dump is called Reincarnation ::thumbs up::

This is craftable, make it if you want. As per above, a druid wanting this is silly. Go for it if you want but a green staff with feral AP would benefit you more. If you upgrade the mace, it only procs in moonkin/humanoid form so you lose the juice of it.

Warriors = awesome MS damage, and extra stun with mace spec stun. (on deep thunder)

Pally = perfect speed, extra stun for increased judge damage. (on the deep thunder.)

I dont know if other people do it, but when I look at these stage craftables, I look at the end result to see what its intended for. Sure you can make it and use it but is it a wise allocation of your resources?

If you arent a pally or warrior Id say your resources are better spent else where, but to each his own
