Woah. I see what the Beta tester's are saying.
This thing totally blows the crap out of level 60 epic bows from Naxxramas.
At the moment, this is the most powerful ranged weapon in-game (Pre-TBC)

Dropped from Kel'Thuzad. Note: This is the rarest bow in the game and a level 62 BLUE item is about 7 dps off of it. But, the stats on Splintermark here are BETTER then Soulstring, I know, only a little bit better. But still, this is a BLUE level 62 item. Think about it.

And this blue bow only requires level 62. Maybe a boss fight or faction rewards. I'm not sure. But still. Impressive

Got this at lvl 62 with my hunter and im so happy. You get this for doing
some times,and get X15.And then ride Zabra'Jin in Zangarmarsh so easy:PP

Atm with my hunter being spec BM. the speed of this bow for me 1.84, thats with the Quickdraw Quiver. for a noraml att spd, that pretty darn good. soon i'll be getting a better quiver. this bow is very well with the 15 marks. also i havent seen any problem with my shot rotation. with the speed of it.

This bow is like the gorewood bow but it has cool blue bowstring :)

this bow or....
Carapace Spine Crossbow which is a much slower, hard hitting cross bow.
i know both have different advantages ( slower= better AIMED SHOTs and faster is better for interupting casters) but which do u think is better?

Slower = better Aimed Shot is BULL*!@#. This was fixed long long ago and now Aimed Shot power doesnt depend on the weapon speed at all.
Basically now for hunters the FASTER ranged weapon = the BETTER weapon until lvl 62. At lvl 62 u get "Steady Shot" ability and you'll need a weapon not faster than u're able to spam steady shots between the weapon's autoshots.

To everyone talking about ranged weapon speed:

The important thing as a hunter...especially in Raids or Dungeons...is shot rotation. Being able to fit a steady shot and perhaps arcane shot between your regular auto shot attacks will allow you to max out your DPS in raids. Avoid faster weapons. When you take the time it takes to get your other shots off, and the GCD into account, you end up loosing the auto shots that plink in-between your spell shots. I dont know about you guys...but my auto shots Crit for around 1200. In the amount of time it takes to cast aimed shot I can get off a steady shot, 2 auto shots, and an arcane shot with Lohn'Goron (2.80 AS) which typically does far more damage than 1 aimed shot.

This is not as important for BM speced hunters, and I cannot speak for survival b/c ive never spent more than 12 points into that tree, but in general: Hunters role in groups is DPS/CC

1) Learn to Chain Trap

2) Learn shot rotation and get a bow/gun/Xbow that allows you to do it.

3) Get invited to alot more groups

this wepon is pretty easily obtained and has good dps.

as for all you people saying you want a slower wepon...eh. higher crits = the sudden jumps in threat.

heres a sequence of events for you

equip slow ass 2.70+ ranged wepon
join group for instance
aimed shot and get a massive crit on first group
pull aggro and get smacked in joffa
fien death quick!

lol, as for the comments on this being to fast to sqeeze in a steady or arcane it rly isnt. im bm and have serpent swiftness and still sqeeze in steadys without it interrupting my auto shot sequence. trust me, after gaining 2 bars of xp with this thing you can do it to :)

currently my bow does 46 dps . i am a 62 hunter and need really need a better bow. should i pvp for that ugly wooden looking bow? or should i just spend 20 minutes a day for 5 days and do hellfire fortifications for this bow ?

get the expidition repeater and just level...

another thing u can do is get the Legion Blunderbuss, and when you get 65 you can buy the gunblade from an ah near you for like 30g.

I’m a troll hunter, BM spec’d and I’m stuck with my options. I may be noob but I have a quiver with 15% and I get serpents swiftness from spec. But what is best for burst damage? I am farming for my mount killing mobs with around 2-3k health and I have Splintermark (93 - 174 Damage, Speed 2.50 and53.4 damage per second with +7Stamina, 12 critical strike rating and 16 attack power)

I also have Mag’har Bow (95 - 177 Damage, Speed 2.80 and 48.6 damage per second with +9 Agility and 16 attack power)

What is best? I have a good pet but I have Steady Shot and Aimed Shot, I can use them well it’s just…. What is the best for farming?

Sorry for the long post I’m a bit of a noob :’(

Had this and steady shot for a day so far and DEAR GOD. My DPS has gone through the roof (expected with steady, but damn!). I'm MM specced and can quite freely fire off more then enough firepower to wipe out a same level mob before its anywhere near me! (with the pet being useful this means never).
Steady,auto,multi,auto,steady,auto,arcane,auto,steady,auto, steady, repeat! XD the speed on this is almost perfect (if Quartz worked it would be easier to tell..)

This is the best bow I've ever had; it's also the best bow I've ever had relative to the effort it took to get it.

As soon as you get to OL do the tower quest in Hellfire 5x, then go to Zangarmarsh and buy this bow. Have a 60+ friend put a +10 scope on it and you will be very happy for a long time.

ps. Do the same tower quest 10x more, and buy the great Hunter trinket from the same vendor in ZM.
