You are missing the point that while the questline for Verigan's fist is not soloable in the early 20s, and requires a group at least for the Deadmines, this is very likely far easier to obtain (I haven't played Beta, so this is only a conjecture)

Take into consideration that Verigan's is a level 31 weapon, and this is a level 23. Comparing it with similar weapons, you have:

Ok, lets do this by parts:

Smite's Mighty Hammer isn't a staff. Neither is Taskmaster's Axe. Neither is Searing Blade. I didn't list weapons paladins can use, I listed similar level weapons that everyone is suing to put it into context. It is not a Verigan's fist, and likely will be far easier to obtain.

The reason I didn't list the 20+ weapons that come up when you do a filtered search for weapons between the 22-24 level bracket is simply because it was unnecessary. There quite a few weapons pallies can use at that bracket. The ones I mentioned above are some of the most popular for ALL classes at that level.

FTR, my pally used a Smite's Mighty Hammer till he got Verigan's.

I use this when healing on my paladin (i stack on int gear). the 6 int along with the stam is nice for 20-30 healing.
The stam is especialy useful since im using robes, belt and shoulders from SFK.
But for solo/dps the Sin'dori warblade is much better. Or smites hammer (if you can get a vc group), or buy a Night Reaver like i did (>.> SoC +CoH Firebolt + Fiery = lots of random yellow numbers)

I find it a pretty good weapon for healing alright for soloing but the quest is a major hassle at level 20 I had many different people help me I did not even know where Ashenvale was until I beat this quest.

The allaiance wepon takes you to horde territoy and this dose not ... it is hard for alliance ot get a group for SFK and BFD but horde are always doing thoes instances... and also alliance are the orignal palladins so umm yeah

The thing I like about this weapon is that it venders for 33 silver 1 copper. This will be very handy for buying water or even getting some skills from the trainer.

I honestly don't know why people are looking down on this polearm. In the entire game 1-70 there are only five weapons that have +Str +Stam and +Int at the same time (usable by paladins. I know there are some class AQ weps and a staff). One is the Ranseur and then there isn't another until Heaven's Light at 45, and that would be a statistical downgrade (bonus wise).

Yes, the individual strikes from the Warblade would be larger but the difference stat bonus wise is large. With the Ranseur you gain 6 int and 5 Stam at the cost of 1 str and 6 top end damage.

This is a really choice weapon for any up and coming Blood Knight. It loses a bit of luster when compared to the VFist (30 less top end damage is a bit weak) , but the Fist doesn't have any Str at all, just a ton of Spirit.

So yeah. If you want a +Str/+Stam/+Int weapon there really is no alternative. It isn't as huge as Verigan's, but the new philosophy in WoW seems to be "Small Equipment Upgrades Often."

Yes, the warblade you get around level 20 in Ghostlands is a little better for a SoC spec'd paladin, but at a level that low, it really doesn't matter too much, especially when you take in the fact that both weapons will be replaced much quicker than the Alliance level 20 weapon.

When my paladin was ready to use the Blood-Tempered Ranseur, I used it. It looks better than the Warblade, and it's unique in that only the BE paladins have access to it. To me, that was worth giving up a little DPS from the Warblade. I also put on the +5 dmg enchant, so that helped out too :P

In order to use this item one must pay 1 gold along with this chain in order to learn polearms.
It would have been much smarter to just make it another Mace quest but use the Blood Knight maul graphic instead of the one verigan uses, but give it the same stats just a blood elf look. Blood Knight Maul

Allthough the stats on our polarm are better for a ret paladin then that of Verigan's Fist, which is what the majority of people would spec to level, there is a 6.9 DPS difference between the Horde and Alliance version, mind you that they both require the same questline. At level 20, that seemingly small difference is in reality a huge amount.

Playing both an Alliance and Horde paladin, the Alliance's mace is amazing for its level, with above average crits for a mid 20 character. This one is really only SLIGHTLY better then the Sin'dorei Warblade from Ghostlands.

The stats are fine, at most this could at least use a small DPS boost, especially considering we have to pay up a gold to learn the polearm skill, and alliance paladins start with a 2h mace skill, not to mention that we are doing the same amount of work for a worse item.

Keep in mind, how much better Verigan's Fist could ever be, you should STILL always do the Class Quests for your own safety in azeroth, and you might miss later quests that you want to do because you never did these.

And, as a plus side which differs this from the Fist, is that this weapon is alot cooler and has more Lore involved, meaning this is supperiour to the Fist RP-wise.

I just spent about 2 hours getting this item.

IMO its sort of worth it, if you do the runs now (after low lvl instance buffs) you will get some good gear anyway so i dont see why not pick it up as a side quest...If you dont get a good weapon drop during the runs then you can always fall back on this :) Plus it looks cool

On the plus side, the questline is soloable if you know what you're doing. But then, so is the alliance one.

But this is not a great paladin weapon... it could be half decent for holy/prot using SoR, but for ret using SoComm, it's definitely inferior to the Sindorei Warblade (which, funnily enough, isn't soloable at the level you get it). It seems that put it in there for flavour.

While there are also better alternative to Verigan's Fist (no str/AP or crit/agi, and... spi?!?), for the level you can get it at, it's awesome. I couldn't be bothered getting a group for it on my latest run at the quest (the fourth time I've done it overall since I started playing WoW), and solo'd the whole questline at 23. The hardest bit was getting the first boss in SFK, but then, after some strategy adjustments I got it - and I'm very badly geared (all quest rewards ftw ^^).

In any case, levelling up to ~30 is easy no matter what gear you're using - and then you can do Corpsemaker (CM) runs in RFK.

Isn't it better than the Warblade for SotC, or do you have to level that skill beyond the Ranseur growing obsolete?

I don't understand why blizz put effort into making such a cool model for a weapon, and then give it pretty lousy stats, when all the other mid-game spears are plain at best, or downright ugly.

Seeing as how horde pallys don't have any class quests before the endgame, I would've built up a quest-chain around this weapon - every few levels, hunt down an elite demon with this wep, so it can "drink" the demon blood for a little bit more dps & int boost, allowing it to sorta keep up into the mid 40'ies, then it would've been easier to accept it relative inferiority... I mean, if this is supposed to be the main weapon of Blood Knights, they'd get their behinds kicked by any random flock of sheep.

I'm gonna put Demonslaying on mine, and just pretend it isn't useless... I'm also still wearing Raider's Boots of the Whale, just can't seem to find any red plate feet.

I was rather disappointed with this. As others have noted, it's a bit of a downgrade from the warblade, which I personally think looks cooler. My hunter rolls with Terrok's Quill (which uses the same model as the ranseur) which makes my pally look kinda weird to me.

But what was really sad was that Haunting Blade dropped on the SFK run, which is superior to the ranseur in every important respect for a ret pally. Don't get me wrong; I'm happy to have the blade, but it seems stupid that the quest reward is obsoleted by a weapon that drops in the instance you have to run in order to get it.

I dont understand why Blizz made this the pally reward. Not only is it bad stats for all other blues around that lvl (Sin'dorei Warblade), but its a polearm. As far as i know, polearms dont even appear untill lvl 51. Its not like you can just visit the AH and pick up a good quality pole arm between 20 and 58. lvl 30 you can pick up the Viscous Hammer, at 43 the Executioner's Cleaver. 51 Lord Alexander's Battle Axe or even better, the ice barbed spear. And the IBS should last till 58 when you enter outlands.

Its really bad if you compair to the alliance mace, but its even worse when you dont really have another polearm to take its place. I have lvled 2 warriors and a pally to 70, and never once used a polearm.

All you guys who complain about this not having good enough stats to be worth getting are missing the point. You get it because you're a Horde Paladin, and this is your weapon! There's a lot of great lore for the Blood Knights, and this weapon is part of it. If you're a druid, even if you don't plan on speccing Feral, you still go ahead and get your Bear and Cat forms, 'cause that's part of being a druid. Same thing here; it doesn't matter if you're going to use this or not, you get it because you're a Paladin, dammit, and you deserve a Paladin's weapon! =D

Antubis does have a point, to some extend. This weapon is pretty cool to have. It's the Blood Knight weapon. It proves that you actually took the troubble to enter a few instances instead of just using the sword from the Ghostlands-quest.

But of course, Articon is right that the Druid's Bear Form is learned for other reasons that the lore and stuff.

My idea to improve this weapon would be to boost the stats so that it is clearly better than the Sin'Dorei Warblade. And possible to lower the dungeon-requirements, or maybe even remove them completely.

EDIT: And of course, Paladins should know the polearm-skill from the beginning of the game! After going through several dungeons to get this weapon, you can't even USE IT before having paid - how much is it, 1g? - to the weapon trainer! Stupid, indeed!

Seemed easier to grab, but the stats don't compare. Quite a bit less damage, even if it does look awesome.

Still nice to do for the xp, and its not an overall horrible weapon.

BTW VF may be far superior in every way but it all comes back on the Charger quest cuz the Blood Knight quest is easier than the alliance charger quest.

My character did this chain of quest simply for EXP. I'm a one-handed sword/shield Pally, so... This didn't help too much weapon wise. Other than that, just do it for the experience and an excuse to get higher levels to run you through the instances. *wink*

This is a great weapon, the ONLY problem with it is that it has low damage compared to the Alliance Paladin Hammer (Verigan's Fist is 25.6 DPS compared to this weapon at 19.7)

I can do WC at 15 and get Crescent Staff spirit vs strength but the staff has higher DPS and look at the difficulty.

I suppose it's passable. And aesthetically I like polearms over 2h maces..

But in every other aspect it loses badly to VF..

People really shouldn't complain about the difference between this and Verigan's Fist when you consider the difference in quests.
BElfs have to get an item from deatholme (full of undead....vs a paladin...makes it a bit easier) vs the Alliance having to get a crate from the Ogre's in NE Loch Modan (Quite a run).

BFD aspect of the quests.
Alliance have a long run in order to get there, where as horde can get a FP right outside the instance.

SFK aspect.

Horde get a really close FP, where as Alliance have to run from SS (being a lvl 25-30 area).

Deadmines Vs RFC.

Horde Paly's have to fight through a lvl 13-18 instance, where as alliance have to fight through a level 16-22 instance.

Horde get it easy for this quest, which is why the Alliance reward is better. (Seriously you can't expect a reqard of equal power when you don't have to do the same amount of work)

level 20 requirement to start this quest.

Blood Knight's Insignia in Deatholme: Cauldron east, turn left when you walk in. talk to corpse and search for insignia.

Blood of the Wrathful: RFC kill Jergosh the Evoker at the end.

Ignots in SFK: With all the horses (non-hostile) the right side of the stables.

Corrupted Kor Gem in BFD OUTSIDE and INSIDE, the Frostbolt casting ones drop it.

Hope this helps, but this isn't worth your time.

To all you morons who complain that the level 20 Blood Elf pally quest reward isn't equal to the level 20 Alliance pally quest reward, newsflash: THEY AREN'T.

And you know why this is okay? Because World of Warcraft isn't an equal game, and was never meant to be. The Alliance isn't equal to the Horde and the paladins aren't equal to the warlocks who aren't equal to the rogues who aren't equal to the druids who aren't equal to the hunters, and the trolls aren't equal to the night elves who aren't equal to the blood elves who aren't equal to the draenei and on and on. They're different, and they're supposed to be. If Blizz wanted equality, there might as well be one faction, one race, one class and one build.

This game isn't about equality, it's about picking a class/race/build combo you like and making the most of your strengths and weaknesses. Blizz already gave into you "equality" whiners once when they gave Alliance shamans and Horde paladins. Blech.

Yeah, this weapon is nowhere near as good as Verigan's Fist. Either deal with it or reroll human/dwarf/draenei and quit your incessant whining.

Although Verigan's Fist may be more powerful, the Blood-Tempered Ranseur is faster (I'm more of a speed type of guy, can't stand weps w/ speed higher than 3.1 :P ), and also, the Blood-Tempered Ranseur is way cooler looking by far.

So...i will be getting this for my blood pally, but i gotta say its kinds of a disappointment compared to when i got Verigans fist for my main pally. I used verigans fist until i was about 33 with an enchant, this i might use for a little but not as long. Its still nice to get a polearm though, its wicked awesome looking.

Just save up a little money and buy Gargoyle's Bite off the AH. It generally sells very cheaply, I got mine for about 2G. Good stats, almost as good as this, plus basically zero effort involved.

Ok, I've played both a BE paladin and human/draenei ones...this is ridiculous. Alliance *!@#$es that Blizzard likes the Horde, Horde $%^&*es that Blizz likes the Alliance...over one lvl 20 quest for ONE class. Are you serious? First off, draenei can roll shamans and paladins AND warriors, yes, but they're hulking brutes, they should have no problem being warriors and their racial isn't overpowered for warriors. In the beta, BE could be warriors and they were ridiculous. Charge stuns, pummel, shield bash AND arcane torrent are too many flippin interrupts for them to have and still be balanced. A warrior stealing mana, silencing for a short time (basically a warstomp against casters) AND turning the stolen mana into rage...just too much. The only reason it's not OP as a Blood Knight is that paladins have no interrupts aside from a stun and spec'd disorient. So Horde didn't get shafted, they got a balanced race with excellent racials. If anyone can't complain about races, it's the horde. You get Will of the Foresaken, Warstomp, Berserk, Hardiness, Mana Tap/Arcane Torrent...Alliance gets Gift of the Naaru, like 1300HP at 70, Shadowform, Perception...a racial for seeing stealthers when the whole idea of stealth is that you don't know that someone's stealthed nearby you. I'd say Escape Artist and Stoneform are the only alliance racials that're really good for pvp and they're extremely situational, far more so than horde ones.

This weapon is decidedly easier to get than the hammer is in almost every way. Far less travelling, less work, easier time. Also, you get a blue quest weapon at 19ish in the Sindorei Blade. Alliance has no comparable quest reward, you can go to Deadmines and kill Smite till it drops but questing for one is so much easier and guaranteed. You're complaining about a weapon that you can get for free and use for 5-8 lvls, if there were no comparable quest reward you'd be happy as a pig in @#$% about it but instead you're comparing it to the hammer. Many classes have worse rewards for their quests than either of these and you should just look at it as what it is. A free weapon, not a weapon meant to be equal to the Alliance's. That said, if Blizz wanted to make them more alike, that would also not be a bad idea.

Considering this weapon is for paladins only this is not quite as good as it could be. The weapon speed is horrible for seal of command, and a prot-paldin will probaly be using a one-hander anyway. So it's slightly disappointing that a quest reward like this isn't optimized for retribution.

Let me just put it like this; There are idiots, and smart idiots. Idiots keep posting here about how greens are better than this weapon. Smart idiots figures out that they can go to an instance like SFK and get a nice, blue weapon like Arced War Axe witch pwns this polearm for a Retri pala. "what if i dont play retri pala, then? what if i play holy pala?" says the idiot. Any smart idiot could figure out that for a pala, it's the strength that matters if you want to do great damage, and if you should feel like healing, you use a weapon with much intellect to be able to use more heals.

*As some stated, the debate between Verigan Fist and the Ranseur is pointless (and YES the Verigan Fist crushes the Ranseur even only regarding the dps)
*The real choice is between the Ranseur and the Blade; I think they are alike in fact. So why choose? I take the two in my pocket so I can up both 2H and polearm ability together.
*No the Ranseur doesn't suck, to my knowledge there are only two other polearms green or blue before the level 40, so this one is greatly appreciated; besides it's probably the most beautiful polearm of the game.
*Note that if you are using SoC, the Blade is much slower therefore the efficiency of SoC is much higher (it procs about every hit)

in the end, I still have a slight preference for the Blade, one of the nicest sword before lvl 60. But I keep my Ranseur in my bag so I can show off and up polearm ability when I want ;-)

1)I like the stats on BTR a bit more, I mean, 12 spi? Yeah, pallies use it, but I wouldn't exactly make it a priority. I like the +int especially (although verigan's gets that too)

hm...imjust the kindda person that does any quest a class trainer tells me but to be honest, do u HAVE to do them (if so then i wasted time getting the trinket at 50 also :/)

Ok um...id say they are just about even.

No Spirit BUT has Strength

Faster as opposed to the VF bigger front load dmg.

So its faster with more str. And why would it matter? Because Seal of Command sucks so badly with its proc rate...7ppm can kiss my ass.

Seriously i do more damage in a BG as Holy then i do as Ret because of the spell damage factor and the talents to imp righteousness.

SO The faster the weapon the better for me, 2nd the strength just adds to this...so im dealing more dmg white and yellow at one time. Yes VF has more front load but consistency is what im looking for and im happy about this weapon.

Lets look at this again im simple and organized terms.

Stamina: BTR > VF
Intellect: BTR = VF
Strength: BTR > VF
Spirit: BTR < VF
Speed: BTR > VF

In this case if you know how this works in terms of this bracket of PvP or at least in my case of experience the BTR is much superior. Of course not many players DPS as Holy however due to how broken paladins are dps wise from 10-60 Holy paladins can nearly out dps everyone because of these factors alone.
-Fast two handers
--Imp Seal of Righteousness w/Wep speed being fast
-Spell dmg and Healing
-Possible Sanctity Aura in group

Its just the fact im dealing consistent damage, it hits fast and it hits hard. Yes you lets say hit for um 50 - 60 white lets just say that is your damage. Your yellow hits for 50 - 60+ also...meaning your like critting each and every time so to speak cus you are dealing double then usual damage.

Now lets say these all crit the yellow and white...well nuff said someone is going to be hurting from that.

It is just point of view but in conclusion this Blood Tempered cheap ass is VERY op for what it is if you carefully examine this situation.

Weird they would give a Polearm as a quest reward for a Pali. Whats even weirder is you have to go in Shadow Fang Keep dungeon to get an item needed for the quest, and that dungeon drops a few blue weapons quite commonly that are better then this Polearm that you have to run around the world collecting mats for.

Welcome to the newest first comments. In case you are wondering whether you should get this weapon, don't. It is a waste of time, UNLESS you plan on doing most of the areas that this quest-line requires you to go anyways. In that case, free experience and a journey for a cool weapon. But yes, it's worse than the Sin'dorei Warblade which you can get earlier, is a Polearm which requires you to train weapon-skill / costs gold and it is by far much worse than the Alliance Counterpart, which is always worth doing.

Comments stating that the comparison to Verigan's Fist is pointless, but it does matter since you expect it to be just as good. Luckily you checked Wowhead to confirm that it is a waste of time to get this before you committed to it.
