As of April 8th, this gem needs to be improved, and I'll show you why.

Let's say you have some gear with 1 red and 1 blue socket.

One option you can do is put 2 Royal Nightseye in those sockets and get +18 healing and +4mp/5.

The other option is put 1 Teardrop Living Ruby and 1 Lustrous Star of Elune and get +18 healing and 3mp/5.

Clearly, the first option is better. I would only recommend the 2nd option if you cant find absolutely no one to craft those Royal Nightseye.

So, imho, they should make this gem 4mp/5 to even it out with other gems so people even consider putting this in their gear.

Gem stats actually seem to be additive.

This gem, and to lesser extent +9 spell damage gem, are the only problematic ones as the pure gems have odd number of stats. With mixed gems, value is rounded up and thus will have 2 mp5 while pure gem has only 3 mp5. This is not so much of a problem with 9 spell damage versus 5 spell damage in mixed gem, but when the pure gem has 3 mp5, and mixed gem 2 mp5, the pure gem is just worthless.

the biggest issue with this gem and all blue gems for healers is "the healing meta" https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25897 Bracing Earthstorm Diamond, requires more yellow and red then blue, the biggest issue with gem itemization atm is imo this, as yellow is arguably the weakest gem type for healers and blue/purple is the best

This gem definitely got the short end of the stick as far as item budget goes, as compared to other options for blue gems.

Though, maybe it's more that Royal Nightseyes are generously itemized.

Not great value this one,

working on the basis that all gems of rare quality should be approximately equal in points value (not including diamonds),

Compare this Lustrous Star of Elune (blue): +3 Mana/5sec
with
Brilliant Dawnstone (yellow): +8 Intellect
Dazzling Talasite (green): +4 Intellect and +2 Mana/5sec

not saying it's a bad gem...but you'd get better 'value' with a pair of Talasites...

Talk about a good jewel for Tidefury Raiment. One of these in each blue socket puts it to 29 mana every five seconds, in addition to the 10% intellect from unrelenting storm.

That can get you up to over 50 mana/5s. I think that's pretty sweet, especially for an elemental sham that gets free spells 10% of the time.

That, and with the crits in the upcoming patch, I hear.

This gem is OK, but not great. Allow me to illustrate with an example:

Let's say you are a healer and have an item with one red socket and one blue socket and are trying to decide how to socket it. You know that the two stats you are looking for are +healing and +MP5. You could go with this gem and a teardrop living ruby (+18 healing) for a total of 18 healing and 3 MP5 from the two sockets. However, if you intstead chose to go with two royal nightseyes (+9 healing, +2 MP5), the total from both sockets would be +18 healing and +4 MP5, while still satisfying the colors of both sockets.

MP5 is a great stat for healers, but this item is not nearly strong enough when placed along the other gems of the same quality.
