This shield drops off Avalanchion. He is a part of Elemental Invasion event

Others named mobs who are part of this event(with blue loot) are:
-Baron Charr (Baron Charr's Sceptre)

I think the +equip bonus is added *after* the bonus block from strength, so its a bit lower than actually having the increase block on the shield.

i've heard that just makin the 37 a 47 would greatly increase the value of the shield, and make it close to epic. in other words, it would make it "too" good. now, granted, it's still gonna get the +10def, i think making it the Equip bonus isn't as great as having it part of the base block. might not make sense.. doesn't completely make sense to me either, but it's a possible explanation :/

The base block value of a shield is set by the level of the shield, just as the armor.

The only way blizzard can modify these numbers are by raising/lowering the level of the shield.

However, they made the equip: increased block value, in order to use the "special points" to raise the block value of the shield without affecting the level as much as a raw change.

The block value is totalled up from:
shield block value + bonus block value + bonus from str (str/20)

He wanders around the area of 75,20 in Azshara. He also has 3 non-elite stone elementals with him who appear to range from lvl 55-58.

this guy is hard. i tried to fight him with a warrior priest and me the pally all level 60 and we couldnt do it make sure u have a group of five or so. Also the elements around the area have a good chance to drop essencess of Earth so go for thouse when he is done.

as a 60 druid i kited them to death. i was with a 55 rogue at the time. moonfire one add... travel form run away... moonfire, run, moonfire, run. when add is dead, repeat process on other remaining adds.

when Avalanchion is left moonfire, rejuv, and tank in bear form. the rogue was some added DPS.

dropped the shield, 2 essences, 3 cores, and some other junk.

I got a port to Exodar, checked the AH and bought it.
oh, whoops, lazy.

got it for 15g, does that seem really low? I had never seen it up before but had been longing to own it - jumped at the chance. It's not really at a nice twink level - and I dont know who twinks a tank for BG anyway. I made the Prot switch early and have been jonesing for a big block, big stam shield -
this fits the bill with the one sad fact that it looks pathetic.
Like...really bad.
Like something was growing on you.

The person that drops this item is a huge rock elemental liek the ones u c where u find him. you find him at the top left of azshara. he has many guards near him he is a very tough fight and he is not realy worth it b/c i have killed him 6 times and only once has he dropped the shield and the only other blue that he drops doesnt sell for much at all now

Killed him 9/4/07 on Kul Tiras -- he dropped the ring, 5 Elemental Earth, 2 Core of Elements and a Core of Earth.

I really wanted the shield for my tank, but the ring was some consolation... :>

His minions drop worthless stone, deeprock salt, an occasional Core of Elements, and some solid stone, at least in my experience of killing 8 of them.

Been up there looking for him after last patch with my hunter, cant spot a single elemental up there, did they move them somewhere else or what happend to him?

In Conclusion, this sheild is very nice for a tank of around lvl 54+ with good defense + stats, it is a 20% drop rate off a big stone elemental in Azshara called Avalanchion who has 3 guards, for those with Co-ords, 75,54 is around about the correct location, for those of you who dont, he is in the top right hand cliff at the far east end. it takes him 2 days for him to respawn so dont be expecting him if you go hunting for him, leave your char somewhere near there if you are to have chance of killing him. this is a tough challenge even at lvl 70 for melee, as him and his guards stun and avalanchion throws stones at you, but if you have ranged or very very quick melee it is fairly easy to accomplish, i would recomend killing his very low armored, low health guards first.

Found it today while questing w my 50 rogue,so i logged my 70 pally,and 10 min later was looting his corpse. ive killed him a few times before,but this was the 1st time he dropped the shield(along w the ace of ports). yes it is butt-ugly,yet its still a very nice shield for a tank.there are 3 rare spawnings of elementals. Air (Sithilius), Water (Winterspring), and Earth (Azshara).they all had 3-4 adds w them at all times, and cannot be pulled seperately. Hopes this helps the rare item farmers out there. Happy Hunting

I just bought this shield in AH for 20g on dethecus server still thinking of throwing it back on but i need a shield bad for when i go protection lvl 56 warrior

My guildmates got me this shield. Love the specs on it but its easily the ugliest thing I have seen. It looks like a small rotten turtle shell. I will post a pic when I get a chance.

I bought this off of AH when I was level 52 or something...paid about the median price but it was worth it. Good tanking shield, helps absorb a good deal of dmg. With the stats it has I expect to be using it until draconian deflector.

Recommended.

I just downed him as 51 priest with 2 60 shammys and a 60 druid...
Shield, Ace, and an essence of earth dropped! Won shield and essence

It dropps for us / and for our MT, but it looks like
the first lvl 1 Shield at the beginning of each Warrior life....

Solo'd him as a warlock today. After a couple failed attempts I killed him by using voidwalker tank on boss while I burst down adds. Voidwalker died right as the last add died. After that I just kited him to death using DoTs
