Just so its known, you have to complete the quest The Archivist (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=5251) before the head will drop for you.

Can you loot the head while your in a raid if you have already done The Archivist Quest? Or can you only loot the head in a 5 man group?

Yes, you can loot it in a raid.

You must complete The Archivist before you can loot the head. That means if you 5-man the Archivist AND kill Bal on the same run, the head will not drop.
You must return the Archivist, then go back to the instance. Fortunately you do not need to 5-man strat again, any raid will do.

Yes, the head will drop in a 10-man raid if you've 5-manned the Archivist, I got it tonight.

Completed Archivist in 5 man group and I could not loot the head.

SO i guess I will have to go back and kill the guy again, I hope those ppl who said u could loot it were right and that it can be still done.

Killed the Archivist in a 10-man raid, and I was the only one to loot the head from the final boss... and, been through there a dozen or more times...
Someone told me it doesn't drop every time, and it has nothing to do with the Archivist...
Rep is another story - I'm 1/2 way honored with Argent Dawn...

probably the head only drops if someone is eligible for the quest (doing the archivist prior)

Can everyone with the quest loot the head or is it only one person's loot like other heads?

It drops in a raid and everyone that is eligible can pick it up, it is not limited to one person.

Archivist is a pre-req to getting his head so only members of your group that have finished The Archivist quest will be able to loot the head and start the next quest to kill Baron.

Balnazzar's head DOES drop for raids. However, only one drops per kill (kind of like Drakksaith's blood).

I confirmed this yesterday when I did a Scarlet Strat run with an 8 person group. His head dropped for me, so I grabbed it.

Requires The Archivist to be done before the head can be collected, which then leads into a quest to kill Baron Rivendare in Strat Undead. Chain requires 2 Clears of Strat Living (Unless you're crazy and leave after killing Archivist, then running back inside to kill Balnazzar) and 1 Clear of Undead.
