The plans for this weapon are gained only from a vendor who isn't easy to gain access to.

Even when learned, the utility of the Ornate Thorium Handaxe is dubious at best. The level 42 Shatterer and the level 44 Phantom Blade are both far easier to acquire, they have equivalent DPS, and they both have abilities that arguably make them more useful than this weapon. For a level 50 weapon the +10 strength buff is entirely mediocre and the main-hand limitation is a significant drawback for dual wielders.

Finally, the weapon itself is bind on pickup. Ridiculous! If you've learned these plans, then you're already been to Scholo and you almost certainly have access to much better gear.

Even if you don't, there is a wide variety of superior gear to be had at this level. Any character pining for an axe could simply purchase Dawn's Edge, a level 50 weapon of Superior quality which can be constructed by any axesmith. Indeed, the only advantage of the Ornate Thorium Handaxe is that it is much cheaper to make by comparsion.

When all these factors are taken into consideration it is no surprise that this weapon is virtually unknown. In fact, as I write this Thottbot lists a grand total of 0 Cosmos profiles using it.

In short this weapon would be made for skill leveling purposes only, and even then... it probably wouldn't be made at all.

you'd think for the effort required to obtain enough faction to even buy these plans, blizzard would put SOME thought into these weps. Absolute crap. I did the imperial plate quests, made 300 BS at 54, and a good bit o coin to boot, since there weren't many imperial plate crafters on my server at the time. This axe is worthless.. makes me cringe at being an axesmith.

These plans arent bought by a faction vendor but a vendor on the scholo island after you first kill The Butcher -> go out, get followup -> kill jandice -> go out get followup -> kill some gargoyle who's name I've forgotten.

Then you get a trinket that allows you to see the ghosts on the island, one of these is a vendor who sells the plans.

Also do note, this quest series is impossible to do far below 60 and the axe is BoP so this axe is, indeed, utterly useless. Must've been put there for leveling purposes only.
