Voidheart vs Corruptor Corruption spell damage comparison

Assumptions:
- That the warlock will be using Corruption rank 8 while wearing nothing more than either of these unsocketed sets.
- That the spell damage bonus formula takes both Voidheart Raiment set bonuses into account.
-That the 4 piece Corruptor Raiment set bonus is taken into account after the bonus spell damage for Corruption has been applied.

When taking into consideration only the 5 pieces used by the corrupter set it has more + spell dmg, crit, and hit than both plagueheart and Nemesis.
Plagueheart has 183 +dmg, +70 Crit, and +24 hit
Nemesis has 141 +dmg, +28 crit, and +0 hit
and
Voidheart has 176 +dmg, +54 crit, and +32 hit

The set itself is more than comparable to all warlock sets currently out there. The 5 piece just allows for a more individual play style by giving us more options to inter-change our gear rather than be stuck to the 8 or 9 pieces of the previous sets. It's a good set, so stop complaining.

So far, I've noticed on each of the T5 sets, there is little information on how they are obtained. What instance must you defeat before getting the quest items for these pieces, or are they drops? If anyone knows (Beta tester would be fantastic) Plz post anything you may know about each set. And no more stat discussion, they are already posted, and a calculator is sitting on my desk.

Why does it seem the Tier 5 set here is roughly equivalent to the Tier 4? In fact in many ways I would rather have the Tier 4 Voidheart than this set, the only thing I find better about this set is the graphics of it. Can anyone explain this?

who gets the healing threat/aggro associated with the 30% heal that is sent to the demon? (from the two piece bonus)

I guess four possibilities could be:
a) the healer
b) the warlock
c) the demon
d) no one -- the aggro disappears into the ether

I ran a few tests on the 4/5 Corruptor bonus.

Step 1: Applied Corruption to Dr.Boom and let it tick 6 times

=> 400 / 400 / 400 / 400 / 400 / 401

Step 2: Applied Corruption to Dr.Boom, cast one Shadow Bolt and let it tick

=> 400 / 400 * 405 / 405 / 406 / 406 (+ 22 damage total)

* Shadow Bolt hit

Step 3: Applied Corruption to Dr.Boom, cast multiple Shadow Bolts and let it tick

=> 400 * 405 * 411 * 415 * 421 / 421 (+ 73 damage total)

* Shadow Bolt hit

It seems like every Shadow Bolt hit increases all subsequent Corruption ticks by 3% - just that it's not 3% of the actual dot tick, but something like 3% of the base dot tick (~4,5 damage)
.
With the 2.2 Patch, the damage added should be about ~15 damage per Shadow Bolt to all subsequent dot ticks.

The 4-piece-bonus seems to work fine now, every shadow bolt hit seems to increase my corruption tick by
roughly 60 (which ist about 10% of the actual tick value).

Works best with 30/21/10 spec - you should be able to see corruption ticks way past 1k when raid buffed.

Taking all the set boni into account, I'd say the PvE spec that benefits most from the entire set is a demonology raid spec like 6/44/11, where:

a) you use a Felguard
b) you have specced Improved corruption
c) shadow bolt spam makes up a large part of your DPS aside from corruption, so you will trigger the 4-piece bonus often.

Best part to skip if you want to keep the 4-piece bonus are the gloves, obviously.

Edit: I tried it on Al'ar yesterday, where you can probably get the maximum possible damage out of the 4-piece bonus. Corruption ticked up to 1.3k with heroism/nightfall/metagem/quag's eye procs, and seemd to contribute at least 5% more of my total damage output than usually (30/21/10 spec, ~1550 spelldamage raid buffed)

On its own, Vestments of the Sea Witch owns the Corruptor chest piece. I guess it's because Vestments are ridiculously well-itemized... more hit, more SD, and a lot of additional crit, at the cost of a little stamina? I mean, it's nice to have a little health pool to tap from, but the stam on Corruptor Raiment is out of control. Similarly, Cowl of the Grand Engineer is just better than the Corruptor hat. I guess some affliction lock could argue that crit has little value, but I claim that for any spec, warlock damage scales better with crit than it does with stamina. Why so much stam blizz, why?

Is the 4 piece bonus so good that it is worth wearing a fourth Corruptor piece over Vestments or the Cowl?

To model the effect of the 4 piece set bonus on my hypothetical friend StarWarLock, assume 60% of his time is spent casting Shadowbolt, and that his corruption does 3k damage. At the risk of overestimating the bonus, let's say he always has time to Shadowbolt right after he casts corruption (so the proc is up during as much of the corruption as possible), and that the SB's hit as soon as they're cast. Also pretend that StarLock has 100% corruption uptime, and has 5/5 bane. In the 18 seconds of corruption time, Star will spend 10.8 sec (round to 10 sec due to lag) to cast 4 SB's. If corruption is cast at time 0, the SB's will hit at t = {4, 6.5, 9, 11.5} seconds. So from t=11.5 to corruption expiring at t=18 sec (6.5 sec total), Star's corruption will tick for 40% additional damage! Let's find the average number of proc stacks throughout the duration of StarWar's dot:

Proc 1 gives 18 - 4 = 14 proc-seconds per corruption cycle.
Proc 2 gives 18 - 6.5 = 11.5 proc-seconds " " "
Proc 3 gives 18 - 9 = 9 proc-sec " " "
Proc 4 gives 6.5 proc-sec per cycle

Totaling up, we get 41 seconds of proc per 18 second corruption. Dividing out, that's an average of 41 / 18 = 2.3 procs boosting the average corruption tick. At 10% boost per proc, Star enjoys 23% more damage from each corruption cycle he casts. To find the overall dps boost:

Raw Corruption DPS = Damage / Time = 3000 / 18 = 166
Additional Corruption DPS = %boost * Raw DPS = .23*166 = 38 DPS. If StarLock did 1000 DPS without the set bonus, he increased his DPS by 3.8%, all else being equal.

Note that this number:
-Increases with % SB casttime, so may decrease if you use UA
-Increases with Corruption damage (emp corr, SM, contagion, spell damage)
-Decreases with distance from the boss (SB's hit later in the corruption cycle so proc-sec decreases)
-Does NOT scale with crit, at all.
-Scales very well with spell hit, up to 202 rating
-Probably scales well with spell haste... you do the math =P

Calculating the average proc time to get this result should be fine. In the long run, Star is always adjusting his spell rotation to maximize dot uptime and rarely casts the exact same 5 spells in a row.

So the question is now: Can Vestments provide 39 DPS from stats to outweigh the loss of StarWarLock's snazzy proc? Vestments offer 2 SD, 4 HR, and 31 CR over Robe of the Corruptor. Here's where I ask a DPS spreadsheet -- I'll never grasp the complex inner workings of these contraptions. Even if Star respecs to 21/0/40, he still only gets about 18 additional DPS from Vestments. Even if the spreadsheet is wrong by a massive margin, this theory lock should still wear 4 pieces of Corruptor.

Yes, Corruptor 4 piece set bonus is really that good: worth sacrificing all those stat points on stamina. The question becomes when to break the set with T6 upgrades...

For anyone wondering about the seemingly crazy high amounts of stam on this set, it is because this is the felguard raiding set, and because my FG gets a percent of my own stam, and many of the boss fights you will face in t-5 content or beyond will have you straining to keep your FG alive if you aren't blessed with Void Star Talisman/2pcT5/SP group, so more stam is required than nearly any other non-tanking class, especially because Soul Link will make your FG take 120% dmg from some AOEs, mostly because FG Avoidance is TERRIBLE compared to hunter's, really sad that blizzard didn't change that yet, FG Avoidance needs a huge buff, 50% to get one shotted is stupid.

I really wish they would have given us different sets for different specs, seeing how the common Warlock spec at this level is the Shadowbolt spam DS/SnF spec, which has 0 use for both the bonus' since a) Pet is saced and b) doens't use DoTs. Still, the stats on the items are yummy, even if the T4 Set Bonus' are better for more specs. Yes, you can make a Demo spec work if you have the knowledge/skill/gear, but it's not the common choice.

Not to mention how sick this set looks >< I think this would go nicely with a Demo or Destro (or hybrid) spec. Given the plus damage on Corruption and Imo with a respective destruction attack. Plus it'll heal your minon :D So... like maybe a Demo/Destro lock has a pretty little Fel Gaurd and likes to spam Shadow Bolt... there ya go! But I find that Imo + Incinerate does more damage and is more Mana and Time efficent.

If anyone has seen the T4 and T5 video's, which is most of us, the Corruptor Raiment looks more badass standing next to Voidheart. One stat people hardly take into account is intimidation. This set is FAR more intimidating than the T4 Warlock set. This often overlooked feature of set's would only be beneficial in PvP, but why not scare the crap out of those trespassers on your farming grounds? Show em who's territory they're really in!

Alright. This set only requires 4/5 pieces for the full set bonus, so lets use all but this set's gloves.

Instead well use Gladiator's Dreadweave gloves, because they give a 50% chance to avoid interuption while casting fear, and have decent stats. Link: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=54943

Now, since we locks like to be able to throw out that especially nasty bit of burst damage -Nightfall, Shadowburn etc... Well use this Hood of the Corruptor, and put Mystical Skyfire Diamond in the Meta socket (2% chance during spellcast that next spell is instant cast, proc lasts 4 seconds) Giving us that nice chance at an instant Soul fire.

I'm still working on the *ultimate* combination, but this looks like a good start. I'll update based on interest~ otherwise i'll just do it myself.

This set grants extra damage over T4, extra 4 hit rating (about 0.3% chance to hit), extra 37 crit rating (about 1.5% chance to crit) and also 13 spell penetration. Of course T4 2-piece set bonus may beat these improvements.

But what is interesting is 2-piece set bonus here. Healing amplification from Fel Armor, damage mitigation of Soul Link, and of course this bonus healing your pet after it takes damage from Soul Link. Of course for bosses that deal a lot of physical damage this won't beat Warrior's plates with all dodges, parries and blocks, but you're gonna love it when it comes to bosses that deal elemental damage. So I foresee some encounters that will require Warlock tanking. That should be some extra fun.

By the look of it, considering it's our uber-top class set, a flat 3% seems rather low, until... it stacks !

And it wouldn't surprise me, that the buff stacks up to 5 (for example). That's could be really great when your spaming SB or Incinerate for example !

obviously it's a Hunter Armor. too bad they don't have corruption yet.

i think he means you don't use pets actively like i always keep my imp on passive so he doesn't get raped by an aoe spell and therefor you will never need to heal him because he'll never take damage and you usually only have another pet out for the rare specific boss like the elemental boss in mc which i hear now you can't even banish them so that would be pointless anyways

Even though the Tier 5 Shoulders look well cool, I'm aiming for Tier 4. The set boni of Tier 4 are much much better than Tier 5. I mean, Tier 5's 2/5 set bonus isn't that useful for non-Felguard Warlocks. And the 4/5 set bonus is terrible! +3% Corruption damage? +3% Immolate damage?

If you compare stats, Corrupter does indeed have about +20 spell damage/healing than Voidheart, BUT it has less stam and less int.

It also has +crit, which is next to useless for Affliction specced locks.

Thus I say,
Tier 4 aka Voidheart - Affliction/Demonology
Tier 5 aka Corruptor - Destruction.

Of course, there's also the Gladiator stuff (Dreadweave - Affliction, Felweave - Destruction) that is harder to get and then there's all the other instance stuff and the REAL Tier 6 that will come from Black Temple.

So, do what you want, but inherently there are Spec related differences in these new sets.

Also the 2 piece set bonus is great for pvp/arena. Instead of throwing heals at the pet, you just throw them at the lock.

Also one of the bosses in SSC is tanked by a warlock, and with Soul Link this set bonus would be great.

Ok I have only compared the pants between this set and Voidheart, because my shadoweave set and Destruction hologogs are generally as good as/better than Voidheart for my affliction lock, BUT what are people talking about with all the this set is not as good as Voidheart for affliction? The pants at least are much better. socketed as I would socket them the Pants give:

Sta 51 (9 more than Voidheart)
Int 32 (6 less, the only loss)
Dam 60 (11 more)
Hit 28 (11 more)

Those are the only stats a real afflict lock cares about for PVE, so why are people saying Voidheart is better for afflict? Are the other pieces significantly different in their stats?

Ive read a lot of comments bashing this set in favour of the Tier 4 setbonus, which apparently gives "+12% damage"....

This is a gross misunderstanding of the effect of the bonus. The Tier 4 4set does not give a bonus to *damage*, it gives a bonus to _efficiency_. It means you get 12% more damage *per mana* than before, your damage remains the same. Now I dont know about you guys, but every fight Ive been in so far has been about DPS rather than efficiency, and Warlocks can lifetap for mana anyway.

The 4set on Tier 5 is stronger simply because of the increased DPS; if every lock in a raid had 4 T5 instead of T4, the lock component would see a significant DPS increase. Every fight in T5 territory and most after are based on DPS, there is usually a 10 or 15 minute 'hard enrage' that will wipe the raid if you dont have the damage to lay the boss low before that.

At the moment, the bonus stands at 10%... I am not sure if that bonus stacks, but the old bonus certainly did. If it does stack, you're looking at ~30% increase to total Corruption/Immolate damage (taking into account the diminising returns as the DoT ticks away).

As a raiding warlock with both t4 and t5 4sets i can tell you all that t5 4set is much better as for dps output. In most boss fight i am in the top 3 on the dmg meters whereas b4 i had the 4set t5 bonus i was in the top 6. the set boosts my corruption ticks for an average of 850dmg. I have seen my corruption tick for over 1000dmg in certain circumstances. im an afflock, so i havent really had the chance to test out the improved immolate. theres a reason why 4set t5 is harder to get than t4

I'm a destro lock so I can't really see how incredible this set is. In comparisson to my T4 I would be loosing a very nice damage buff. I'm 21/40 so I sac my pets for buffs, making the two piece set bonus useless. So the four piece bonus for destro locks isn't all that useful either. Most destro locks would do better off with T4, Zul'Aman, or Eye gear - most of it has lots of crit rating and hit rating.

How does the 4 peace set bonus work? Does it leave a debuff on the mob? Does it work if you cast corruption first, then shadow bolt (increases the damage of ticks that are left)?

this set is a DREAM for 0/40/21 crit locks. One: as you have soul link on, and you usually have imp or succubus out. These two pets are infamous for their low amounts of health and squishyness. With the 2 piece set bonus your pet wont die. In addition to this, the crit rating is really good on this set. over 30 crit rating added to the felweave set. Granted, i do agree that the spell damage is a little low, but enchants ftw on gloves and bracers =)

Works well for 40/0/21 locks (me) as well, since I'm constantly using Corruption, Shadowbolt, and Immolate. Not too big on Incinerate, but I'd only have to use it once to get the buff.

I'm also unclear on how the 4 piece set bonus works. I would assume that when you cast a SB or Incinerate that hits, the mob or boss would get a debuff until combat ends. It never mentions the duration of the bonus effect(s) in the item description.

Guess I'll have to get it to find out :)

My guild's just getting to the bosses that drop these tokens (we just downed Hydross, and Lurker's on farm status now), so hopefully I can report back & let you know sometime soon!

The 2 peice set bonus is for warlocks tanking Leotheras or Hydross for exmaple. Using Soul Link is imperetive, and with the 2-peice you need not worry about your pet dieing and you losing the Soul Link.
