I need some advice. I'm a level 69 Moonkin, getting as many quests done in Outland as possible before moving on to the cold north.
I've been balance the whole way, and since 40 I haven't had any problems taking on same-level elites, especially since I got my Treants. Anyway, i just can't seem to finish
Cho'war the Pillager
.
He's a couple levels lower than me, but I don't know, I keep dying. Here's what Iv'e been doing:
Send in the trees, then IS and MF...Rejuv and Lifebloom...Starfires until he's on me...Barkskin...Then alternate between HOTs, DOTs, and Starfire or Wrath, depending on my Eclipse status...I usually have to throw in an Innervate.
He's immune to roots and knockback, so I can't do the old Typhoon + bandage routine to buy some time.
Is there a strategy i'm missing, or is this just not a bird-friendly fight? He just outlasts me every time, and there aren't enough GCDs to go around. I usually start off defensive, giving priority to self-heals and DOTs, but then when he gets to 50% or so, I can't help it and start trying to nuke him down. He gets to about 10% every time.
Ideas?

DoT kiting is your best bet in this case. Jumpspining to typhoon will help as well.
Or find a friendly melee to join you and be a meat shield.

When talking about elites (especially in instances or raids but also outside), it's not just about relative levels but about their abilities.
In this case, he can charge, debuffs your armor, applies a mortal strike effect, ... You can't really outlast him so you'd have to be able to burst him down.
The one thing that can help you is to make use of the terrain, jumping down while he runs the whole way around, in order to get yourself back up and get some dps time without getting hit. But as Curlymon said, your best bet is to get a meat shield (or a healer).

Cho'war is darn tough, it's not surprising. The best advice was given by Celdhyrean - nuke him senseless, apply dots, jump down to a lower platform when your health gets low. Heal up to full while he's pathing around to get back to you, refresh hots & dots, barkskin and nuke him down.
Just don't let him path too long or he'll reset; tag him with faerie fire (rather than overwrite your dots) once or twice while he's running.
Or find another person of any class - if you can get him to 10% by yourself, no matter what you bring you'll win.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I headed back up there, ready to jump down and kite that way. Buffed up, started the fight, sent in the trees, Insect swarmed, then 2 80s running a guildie ran up behind me and destroyed him, complained a little that I had tagged him first, then waited on the respawn.
At least he's dead. Thanks!
