Don't really understand why Hunters get to mog to different weapon types

In short, transmoging melee weapons as long as it's a conversion of same-handed weapons to same-handed weapons is honestly not even remotely problematic. After all, since when did it matter that the Warrior was cleaving your face in with a Sword and not an Axe?
Quoted for truth. Gone are the days when weapon type mattered - as long as you can use it, it's good. I was very pleased indeed when the silly combat rogue weapon spec talents were removed - I was free like I used Tena Lady. Now I feel restricted again. Transmogrification was a perfect way to allow us to use whichever weapon type we liked, rather than being forced to use whichever dropped or whichever was BIS.
I understand Blizzard's need for restrictions, but this one in particular is completely unnecessary.

Beyond the programming side of it of course.

I'll agree same-handed to same handed should be ok. I guess I was thinking more of the EQ 2 system, where you can wear a dress and carry a staff on the outside, and actually be a plate-clad 2-handed-axe-using melee toon. Their system doesn't care about weapons types at all, and let you appear to use 2 weapons when you only have one, and vice versa.
But I can also understand where they're coming from in terms of not letting the appearances get too far away from the base character.

I think it actually would be easier to program same-hand to same-hand.

Which is why Main Hand to Main Hand and Off Hand to Off Hand are required, but a one handed weapon can be done to either weapon.

No I mean ignoring the weapon types (like Axes, Swords, etc).

Probably wouldn't since the coding would be a nightmare to put weapon skins on top of other weapons.

As I said, I, for one, don't really think so.

Well a lot of people seem to think they are better programmers then Blizzard so....

It's really a matter of classifying the weapon types based on hand, which is already done because otherwise One Hand, Two Handed, Main Hand, and Off Hand pieces exist. Then you just overwrite the displayed model. They're already doing that with Transmogrification anyways, therefore, they only need to recycle the code they've probably already used and just make the model conversion broader =).
I'm not saying I'm a better programmer, just that I am confident they are capable of doing so.

It's because a bow/crossbow/gun take up the same slot on a Hunter/Warrior/Rogue: They all count as the same weapon type even if they are named differently. For everything else, weapon type falls there.
Huh?
One of my alts is a blacksmith with the recipe to make
Ascia Planare Affilata
and i would love to transmog his
Punitore dei Gurubashi
to look like those axes of old, and your explanation fails to explain why i cant do that.
Because an Axe is an Axe, and a Mace is a Mace for transmog purpose; but a bow/gun/crossbow all count under the Ranged slot for the purpose of Transmog, but you can't transmog a throwing weapon to look like a crossbow/bow/gun.
So it is possible to transmog a gun to look like a bow (ranged) but it isnt possible to transmog a mace to look like an axe (melee one handed weapon)
Come on Adamsm even you have to admit thats pretty lame on the part of Blizz and makes no fricking sense what so ever.

Beyond Blizzard working with the code they have, and no I don't think it's lame, as it makes a lot more sense to have it on an item to item basis instead of making it that any weapon can look like any other weapon.

It might have something to do with certain weapons being restricted to certain classes. If they let you transmorg a dagger into an axe, then you would have mages running around with an axe... or a mace into an axe for priests..
Everyone that can use a bow can also use a gun and vice versa. Also, honestly, I think there are probably enough devs that play hunters to realize that gun sounds get very annoying.

Now this explanation makes perfect sense and I can live with it thankyou for your thoughts.

This however seems more like blind fanboyism /shrug(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##Ad hominem arguments don't lead to good discussion. Don't do it.

Hoorah for people disagreeing with someone with the fanboi 'insult'! Seriously? Just because I don't care one way or another that there is an item restriction, I get called a fanboi?
Edit: Also, Jackie boy, just hit Quote next time, it will work better.

Well it's simple enough to have it check against proficiencies.
Don't you have to be able to use the weapon to transmogrify it anyways?

Yes, you have to be able to equip it.

Very good point Interest, I am back to finding the restriction lame.
