Sadly you are wrong Tenjou, they are still elite.
The drop rate still stinks, one scale from about 10 killed and skinned.

Got three stacks of Rugged Leather and one of Thick Leather in the time it took to get 10 Blue Dragonscales. So the above poster must have gotten pretty lucky.

The drop rates above are rather confusing and elite unites are listed as non-elite. Where can I get these off non-elite mobs? I can't handle those alone yet at 56 :P

U can get them at lake manor in Azshara.. Lvl 50-52elite drops from skinning.. but the droprate isn't that high, about 10-20%

The skin-droprate just plain sucks.

In Azshara I have to kill about 12 to get just 1 (On a good day) and in Winterspring it's not better (But it is a lot harder)

For the Blue Dragonscale Set you'll need 96 Blue Dragonscales so on a good day it would probably take me only 1152 kills.

I have found the drop rate terrible and it doesn't matter which type of dragonkin you kill around Lake Mennar.

But if you are going to farm blue dragonscale, there is a chest on one of the 4 platforms around the lake. The respawn time for the chest is only about 5 minutes. Don't kill the dragonkin on the platforms unless the chest is there, as this seems to slow down the chest respawn rate.

So if you�re going to take the time to farm blue dragonscale, circle the lake and look at each platform (don't just hunt in one spot). Might as well get some goodies while you are farming at 10-15% drop rates. They entire Dragonscale set requires 96.

I'm a 53 hunter, farm these in south Azshara. Usually the 50 and 51 elites aren't a problem and they're spread out. Yeah the drop rate sucks something terrible, but at least the xp isn't bad... 62 to go

I stumbled onto this, for what it's worth. My 70 Hunter is always looking for named elites as a challenge and because sometimes (not always, as Blizz says in their tips; sometimes they drop absolutely nada, not even a few copper) they drop interesting stuff. Chasing down a few of the dragons in Winterspring in the process of also doing the epic Wintersaber quest, I wandered into Mazthoril, where I seem to remember doing a complex quest about 10-15 years ago.

Lots of blue dragonkind, dragonlings and such. I started killing and skinning them because I'm always after thick and rugged (for the Warbear patterns). They not only dropped 11 blue dragonscales in about 40 minutes, each kill produced between 6 and 18 silver, as well as a ton of rugged. A few of the dragonkind dropped 3 rugged apiece. Wow. Also, Thorium Armor plans, Radiant Leggings plans, Ornate Greaves of the Monkey and Peerless Cloak of the Monkey, both of which my 49 Warrior will be thrilled with!

This place is a treasure. Not very quick respawns, but two dragons outside the cave and two in the cave (as far as I went). They are immune to most stuff but not too hard if you're peristent. Neither of the two outside the cave (Brumeran and Spellmaw) have ever dropped anything for me other than silver and leather and they are a little more difficult to kill, so you can skip them. Keep your eyes open for General Colbatann. He has the "rare spawn" silver border around his name but he's always been there when I was there. Drops at least one green and lots of silver.

Inside the cave is a little different. My pet and I handled the first dragon easily (Manascale? Something like that...). The second one (Scryer is its name) was different. A "60 Elite" (Yeah, right), he was not only immune to everything, he killed my pet (10,709 armor, 472 Stamina) with me healing him constantly, then came after me. I should have FD, but I thought I could make a dent with my blue axe. Not a chance. The pet and I didn't knock off more than about a third of his health. He essentially fights like a 68 or 69 Elite. Of course maybe he drops an epic, but something tells me...not a chance. Avoid this guy if you are solo. My repair bill was 4 Gold.

I rezzed at the Spirit Healer simply because my bags were so full, I had to offload. This place is really worth a visit; it's a skinner's paradise and a lot of cash falls into your pockets. Except for Scryer (who stays in the cave), the others are easy (56-58 Elites; probably not so easy for under 60s) and I'm sure the green drop ratio was not just for my benefit.

Scryer is completely soloable by a 70 hunter (beast mastery)...but he didn't even drop a green item. He dropped about 30 silver and skinned out a blue dragonscale so you can just as easily skip him and not feel like your missing out on something :)

Soloed Scryer as level 70 Warr, didnt drop anything of interest, so, tbh, unless your bored, I wouldnt bother

Unless you love having a trade I suggest that you run instances instead of farming. You may not get the exact item you want, but you will always have blues--I had an axe, gloves and bracers drop for me in a few hours in Mauradon the other night, and it was *fun*. If you were able to craft these items if would've taken you probably 10+ hours to get the mats. Making players spend agonizing hours grinding for mats when *every* dragon (or whatever) should drop a blue dragonscale must make the jerks at bliz laugh their asses off.

Don't be a sucker. It's a game not a job. Buy mats on ah and have some craftsman desperate for the point *he may or may not get* craft it--tip him 1g and you'll make his day, since the game is so brutal on craftsmen that they routinely sell their wares for less than what it costs to produce them (not counting labor, which would put them way in the hole), which is worse than communism.

After a few months of being a DS Leatherworker, I was expecting these to be rather difficult to obtain. But while questing in Azshara, I ran across some elite Dragonkin around level 50-53. After killing about 10 of them, I had already aquired 2 Blue Dragonscales and a Worn Dragonscale. I stayed there for some time, killing them and gaining an entire level, obtaining about 17 Blue Dragonscales and close to 20 Worn Dragonscales! I would highly recomend this as a spot to farm for the scales! Definately worth the time spent farming for them.
