One of the most distinguishing elements of patch 3.3 is how epic it feels. Many story lines are coming to an end - story lines that started many years ago with Warcraft 3. And one of the best ways to tell a story in WoW is to hand the players a series of
quests
, each one taking the adventurer to places of significance.
Well, the patch does an excellent job at conveying the feeling of grandeur, and even finality, through a few epic quest chains - the Restoration of Quel'Delar, the Icecrown Citadel & Frostmourne, and the Creation of Shadowmourne. The weekly raid quests also added in this patch hold no particular Lore value, other than to show that The Six, the ruling council of Dalaran, is concerned with various villains and requires you to take a direct action against them.
It's worth a quick mention that an in-game quest assistant is being added in this patch as well. Very little is known about it, but head over to the
UI Changes
section of this Guide to read what we know.
Chains
Icecrown Citadel (Raid)
This is a quest chain that introduces players to the latest affairs around the Icecrown Citadel and the combined attack by the Alliance and the Horde. The goal is to secure various sections of the Citadel, while the Lich King's attention is focused on an direct attack by the forces of the Crusade.

Quel'Delar
The quests that ultimately lead to the recreation and purification of the ancient blade Quel'Delar are quite a story themselves. They will take eligible players through series of events - identifying the blade, reforging it, tempering it, and finally purifying it, restoring the Ancient Keeper to its former glory.
The final rewards depends on your class. Players who can use swords will receive a sword, a modified version of Quel'Delar. Players who cannot use swords will receive a mace from the Argent Crusade. Both are incredible items - iLevel 251, on par with the raiding weapons!

Shadowmourne
This is a chain of quests that is only available in the 25-player version of the raid instance. It awards
Shadowmourne
, the legendary two-handed axe Blizzard revealed at BlizzCon 2009.
The quests below indicate that earning the axe is going to be a long and perilous journey, that only the most powerful of heroes will be able to undertake.

A Feast of Souls

Weekly Raid Quests
The weekly raid quests are a new addition in this patch. They can be performed once per week on any raid difficulty. The first and more popular type rewards 5
Emblems of Frost
, the highest tier raid token, and 5
Emblem of Triumph
per quest. Players can accept these weekly raid quests from
Archmage Lan'dalock
, the NPC who used to give the daily heroic quests.
Anub'Rekhan Must Die!
Flame Leviathan Must Die!
Ignis the Furnace Master Must Die!
Instructor Razuvious Must Die!
Lord Jaraxxus Must Die!
Lord Marrowgar Must Die!
Malygos Must Die!
Noth the Plaguebringer Must Die!
Patchwerk Must Die!
Razorscale Must Die!
Sartharion Must Die!
XT-002 Deconstructor Must Die!
However there is a second type of weekly quests, information of which is still very limited. They don't appear to be given by a single NPC, but are rather spread out, and award and
Sack of Frosty Treasures
- no Emblems. All of them involve performing something with one of the many mini-bosses spread throughout the entire raid instance. And here is the list:
Blood Quickening
Deprogramming
Residue Rendezvous
Respite a Tormented Soul
Securing the Ramparts
(
Horde
/
Alliance
)
