This talent is a staple of our tree. You will want this talent always as Beast Mastery and in some cases for Survival. It has a high average uptime, which is beneficial to our rotations.

You will want to take one point of Endurance Training. This talent is only a filler required to reach the final talent of the Beast Mastery tree.

Focused Fire is a nice, small straight dps boost. It is also a critical talent for maintaining our uptime of Kill Command

This is a useless talent and should never be taken in any situation.

Thick Hide should never be used in PvE as it provides no benefit. In PvP, however, you will want to take 5/5 as your pet will be critical in maintaining pressure on your enemies, and any extra armor will help you in that regard.

Improved Revive Pet should always be taken by all hunters, both in PvE and PvP. Your pet will always die at times; it's inevitable. When this does happen, you want to have the ability to revive your pet as quickly as possible to get back into the fight. Your pet makes up a large portion of your damage in TBC.

Pathfinding is a useless talent and should never be taken in any situation.

Boar's Speed

Bestial Swiftness is great in PvP. This talent will allow your pet to maintain pressure and get to your target faster.

This talent is another major requirement for Beast Mastery Hunters. 20% increased damage done is too good to pass up.

Improved Mend Pet will help reduce the mana cost during long fights, where you will be casting Mend Pet frequently to avoid as many pet deaths as possible.

Ferocity is another crucial talent that you will take. Increasing your pet's critical strike damage will greatly increase your overall dps.

Spirit Bond is a useless talent in raids/PvP. May have some small uses while leveling.

Intimidation

Intimidation is great while solo leveling and in PvP. Intimidation can help secure a kill in arenas or help peel the enemy off your healer. This ability has an extremely helpful use on the boss Leotheras the Blind. Being able to stun the Inner Demon on yourself during the encounter lets you create the much-needed space to quickly dispatch it.

Bestial Discipline is another major must. With pets being more valuable in TBC, you will want as much focus regeneration as possible.

You will take 1 point of Animal Handler in PvP spec only. The movement speed is a very slight bonus in PvP.

Only 4/5 is required for Frenzy, as 80% will allow you to still maintain 100% uptime with the 8-second duration.

Ferocious Inspiration is huge for Beast Mastery Hunters. This talent stacks multiplicatively with other hunters' Ferocious Inspiration and has a near 100% uptime. Depending on your raid composition with 2-3 Beast Mastery Hunters, this talent will net you a little over 100 dps.

Bestial Wrath

Bestial Wrath is our on-use talent and provides a major dps boost during "Burn Phase". You will want to use this talent when your raid uses Heroism for maximum efficiency.

This is a useless talent and should never be taken in any situation.

Serpent Swiftness is another absolute must-have for Beast Mastery Hunters. The passive 20% haste helps reduce downtime in rotations and also greatly benefits pet dps output.

This talent comes into effect when you use Bestial Wrath. This talent is a must as it is a large dps boost and will also reduce your mana cost of abilities for 18 seconds. Giving you time to recover a small bit of mana with

Marksmanship Tree Talents in TBC Classic

Improved Concussive Shot will be a PvP-only talent. Giving a chance to stun your opponent for 3 seconds is too good to pass up in PvP.

Lethal Shots will always be taken in all situations. 5% Critical Strike Chance is huge in PvE for maintaining uptime on Kill Command for Beast Mastery Hunters and maintaining uptime on for Survival Hunters.

Improved Hunter's Mark will always be taken by Survival Hunters. This talent provides 440 Ranged Attack Power and 110 Melee Attack Power for the raid and is too good to pass up.

Efficiency is great for Beast Mastery Hunters, as our rotations can be mana-heavy, and a 20% reduction to mana cost on abilities helps significantly.

This talent should always be taken by every specialization and in PvP. The ability to instantly generate 50 focus opens the door to using Wind Serpent as a pet once you reach a certain Crit Rating threshold, and you will want this talent so you can spam as much as possible.

This is a useless talent and should never be taken in any situation.

Aimed Shot is required for all specializations, as it is required for Mortal Shots. However, it will only ever be used by your designated Survival Hunter who pulls mobs in the raid.

Reducing the cooldown of Rapid Fire will allow us to squeeze in more casts during long boss encounters. You will always want this talent in any build you go.

This is a useless talent and should never be taken in any situation.

Mortal Shots is as far as you will go in the Marksmanship tree, as Beast Mastery. 30% bonus damage to Critical Strikes is way too powerful to pass up.

This talent may have some uses in specific PvP builds, but will never be used in any PvE situation.

Scatter Shot is great in open world PvP and arena, but will see no use in PvE.

Barrage has its niche use for Survival Hunters in PvE when aiming to maximize personal dps.

This is a useless talent and should never be taken in any situation. 2% Agility and 6% Intellect, a very minor increase.

This talent will only be taken 1/5 for Survival Hunters using the build for maximum personal dps output.

This is a useless talent and should never be taken in any situation.

With the changes in TBCC and the specializations that are viable. You will no longer be this far into the Marksmanship tree. The benefit of Beast Mastery talents outweighs the benefit of Trueshot Aura.

There will never be a situation where you will reach this talent in PvE. In PvP with a Marksmanship build, you may want to take this talent to avoid pushback.

If you decide to play Marksmanship, even though it is not highly recommended. You will want this talent 5/5.

Silencing Shot will only see benefits in PvP when you are trying to secure a kill and need to silence the healer or peel caster DPS to avoid death.

Survival Tree Talents in TBC ClassicExpose Weakness

This talent will be taken 3/3 by Survival Hunters, no matter what build you go with.

As a Beast Mastery Hunter, you will not take Hawk Eye. Survival Hunters, however, will take this talent as they will want the extra range while pulling mobs in raids.

This Talent is only taken by Survival Hunters. Beast Mastery Hunters do not have the available points to use this talent. This talent is more or less a filler talent, but it can be useful for Survival Hunters looking to melee weave.

This will be a PvP-only talent. Being able to root your target for 4 seconds will help against melee opponents greatly.

This is a useless talent and should never be taken in any situation.

This is a useless talent for PvE. For PvP, having the chance to completely immobilize the enemy and gain some space makes this a useful talent.

Clever Traps are really only beneficial in dungeons. This will only be used by Survival Hunters in PvE and has minimal use outside of being a filler talent.

Survivalist is another minimal benefit talent. It is used as a filler talent for better options deeper into the Survival tree.

Deterrence

This is a useless talent for PvE, but for PvP it can be a potentially lifesaving cooldown.

This talent has no real use in PvE whatsoever; however, it can be useful in PvP to increase the chances of a successful trap.

Surefooted

Surefooted is one of the critical Survival Hunter talents. You will want to take 3/3 of this talent. It will allow you to focus primarily on your gear with agility/Attack Power while not having to worry about Hit Cap as much.

This is another filler talent, but could be slightly useful for the Survival Hunter that potentially makes a bad pull in raids/dungeons.

This talent gives a nice, small boost to overall dps, and you will want to take this as the Survival Hunter.

This is another critical talent for Survival Hunters. This talent will help with your Expose Weakness uptime.

This is a useless talent and should never be taken in any situation.

Lightning Reflexes is crucial as a 15% increase to agility will provide a nice increase to Expose Weakness.

Depending on what Survival talent build you decide to choose, you will put either one or two points into this. This talent isn't too important, as will provide a much better mana regeneration.

This is a useless talent for PvE and should not be taken. However, in PvP, if you decide to play as Survival, this can be a useful talent for controlling the enemy.

This talent is the prime reason for going Survival. It is a must-have for every Survival Hunter as it provides a massive dps boost to the entire raid through increasing the Attack Power of all physical damage dealers.

Master Tactician

This talent is only taken with the 0/20/41 Survival build and is a prerequisite to Readiness, therefore it is required to take 5/5.

Readiness can be a useful talent depending on what survival build you decide to play with. With builds such as 0/20/41, this talent will allow you to use abilities such as Rapid Fire twice.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the, "this is a useless talent and should never be used". brief look through found a few things. For ex. Focused Fire does not help keep the uptime on kill command it increases its crit% and your dmg, you cant proc kill command off itself. Thick hide is 3/3 not 5/5 points and your pet has high enough armor especially as BM to not necessarily benefit from the talent as much as you may think, would consider more of a solo/cookie cutter talent (also depends on your pet/playstyle). Heroic dungeons are a big thing in tbc, so to say things like its only good in dungeons lowers the significance. for lets say imp monkey talent instead of saying "useless" could say good against melee opponents in pvp or if you dont have pet taunt and are doing some solo play. dodge procs
mongoose bite with a 5s cd, hunters already have high natural dodge, especially if running surv. 14% total bonus dodge with 3/3 imp. cheetah / slows to kite players /mobs is a very good technique so Pathfinding shouldnt be written off so lightly also for things like wsg when inside a building(just as an ex you have the imp speed to get to obj and players faster. overall would just prefer an informational guide as opposed to one that seems rather opinionated. thanks fort the effort and info though

A pvp survival build would be great to see. Imp wing clip is 3/3 20% root for 5s thats enough time to get away from an enemy/player to avoid melee range, also great for peeling. w/that entrapment deterance and counterattack you'll have a much easier time keeping distance, considering every class in the game want sto get in your face when in a fight its got broad range of usefullness. Also if youve ever trapped an opposing team going through a tunnel in wsg with entrapment you know how impactful it can be, or cancer when on the other team not to mention you can lay one after the first further down the tunnel if done preemptively. also applies to other objective/choke points i.e av bridge passageways/ ab flags / eots paths. reminds me imp traps (more dmg/snakes/longer cc) what is wrong with having a freezing trap last longer or frost trap(especially with entrapment) have a 39s duration. more snakes on certain classes means more wound/crippling/deadly, which dont forget helps keep viper from being dispelled especially when comb ined with scorpion poison stacks. on second thought if you are not a pvp type player maybe making a pvp guide shouldnt be the call. theres some good synergy to be had with some of the survival talents, imp traps {especially now with in combat traps} / being able to hold your own in melee / survivability { how is a Survivalist a minimal benefit talent } 10%hp, when combined with endurance training which remember health in pvp is #1 stat prio, you will find yourself with some pvp gear obv having more health than any other class even pvp geared warriors very often. this is pvp cant just think dmg and hope a rogue wont just shadow step your one counter with dps builds/itemization/thinking. beastial wrath is amazing ik tho lol but it cant be an answer to dealing with every situation

great way to deal with rogue evasion/ thick (high def) warriors, dodgy shamans, Counter attack, does not do a lot of dmg but with a 5s cd that roots for 5s, can be done one after another. and there being other talents in the same tree that synergize, remember that word, with it (deterance 25% more parry/dodge(with monkey esp imp monkey youre well over 50% prob 60% (imp parry, which for those who dont halves your current swing timer which is another reason why 2h are great, mitigates all that swings dmg, and if warrior burns some of their rage) oh and while youre in melee range getting them goons out of your personal space mongoose will sure to be procing often with that sort of build/savage strikes would further build on that. you'll have melee thinking twice about an assured victory just because they can reach you for a few sec some even avoid you. gm war in classic 200+days played had 3 hunters with immune to disarm thats some sweat right there and yes ik it may sound unwise for the hunter but as warrior if youre not disarming a hunter assuming its not on cd/havve other melee around you should rethink your gameplay. there are very few optionsif youre hoping to get out of that danger zone with no weapon and in melee range

Hi I played classic up to a year ago and I have full T1 and T2 set, and crossbow from BWL at what stage do you guys think I can keep that armor and weapon true leveling? Tnx for any information. :)
