Instead of tier sets containing 8 pieces, now each tier set only contains 5 pieces. In addition, Burning Crusade tier sets have bonuses at 2 pieces and 4 pieces worn, which allows for more customization, as you are not required to wear a full tier set to gain all the bonus effects.

Tier pieces no longer directly drop from bosses - instead, tier tokens that can be used by multiple classes drop. These tokens are then redeemed at vendors for the actual tier piece.

Classes with more than one role - Druid, Paladin, Priest, Shaman, and Warrior - have access to different versions of their tier sets, allowing them to more easily gear towards their desired specialization.
