Wowhead's stance on "model viewer" images?

I'm aware that "model viewer" images are not accepted for item and spell screenshots, but what is Wowhead's view on linking to such images in comments? For example, a link to an model viewer image of the new Hippogryph mount can be found in the comments of
its page
.
I have been unable to find an explicit answer in any of the FAQ's. However, this does teeter on the edge of violating the ToU (section 4A), and as such, would not be permitted on Wowhead according to the
forum guidelines
(which applies to the rest of the site as well).
An official word on this matter would be appreciated.

I must have missed that change, as last I read such images were allowed, though in-game images were preferable.
Model viewer images have been taken down, as far as I've seen now, so evidently it happened :]

Some
model
viewer
images
and
others from private servers
still exist.
My question is specifically about linking images (hosted on other sites) in the
comments
. Is it tolerated? Not tolerated? Tolerated but discouraged?

Basically, what I see happening is that an off-site linked screenshot will exist in a comment until a screenshot is uploaded for that item/quest/thing, then it will be removed due to redundancy. Personally, I do not like offsite links in comments at all unless absolutely necessary. As for right now, though, with fresh data I wouldn't be too concerned about them. As always the moderation team tries our best to insure that all clickable links in comments are safe.
