Remember: Hybrid specs are baaaaad. Most of the time, they're not nearly as effective or practical as normal specs. Trying to DPS and heal at the same time is, well, stupid, putting it bluntly. You'll also go oom VERY fast, due to the lack of Spirit Tap and Focused Mind. If you're gonna DPS, then DPS. If you're gonna heal, heal. Can't do both.
And you're #1 on DPS as a shadow priest? Do you have no pure DPS classes? =x

made up of mostly ranged DPS all fairly skilled players alot of trouble with the adds
Something doesn't fit there. You can have a skilled melee heavy group with problems on the adds. You can have an unskilled ranged heavy group struggeling with adds. But with a skilled ranged heavy group there is no way you should have issues on the adds.
You wrote you want to spam shields on people getting hit by adds. That's your problem: Nobody should ever get hit by adds. If they land a single hit on any of your raid members then you are doing it wrong.
Melee (especially tanks) must stop AoE when they spawn so they run outwards.
Ranged must single target nuke them down (they take reduced damage from AoE) and most importantly kite them in case they get even remotely close. Slowing them down (frost traps!) helps with that.

Just a note:
They fixed the whole "Shield blocking blood power" thing.

Hunters:
Traps
, Shots and Feign Death
Shaman: Earthbind,
Thunderstorm
and Frost Shock
Mage:
Frost bolt(rank 1 got less casttime, same slow - but low dmg, so hunters with traps is a better way to go), Blizzard, Blink
, Slow and Iceblock
Druid:
Typhoon
(Boomkin), can go kitty-form and Dash if all else fails,
entangling roots on add not targeted yet
Priest: Mind Flay and Fade
Warlock: Demonic Circle
(aka lolteleport),
Felt free to add some and underline the maybe most important ones in 10man. in 25man you'll obv want to use blizzard aswell.
After you guys got the hang of it you probably wont need to use much aggroreducing skills, but at the start, they'll be awesome.
If you didnt already i would also suggest to go to tankspot.com and look at the videos, guides and responses. may be alot of tips there :)
also, the range between you players is VERY important! keep this in mind with a rangeheavy group.
another tips is to try and go with 2 healers instead of 3 (im not sure if you go with 2 or 3). 2 healers should be able to heal it without any problems (even first encounter). its not very raidheavy unless you get way to many marks.
