What exactly do you mean by a defensive cooldown? It's not a personal one unless you can guarantee your party members won't be taking damage while you use it.
Although, actually, if you were given a group all by yourself, it would be a free defensive CD for yourself and the entire raid. That's not too bad.
As far as a raid-wide cooldown goes it's not as good as Aura Mastery but since that isn't an option for prot this would be a nice thing to have, especially for offtanks.

In a specific raid setup it could be a "sort of defensive cooldown".
Our raid runs with 2 paladin tanks. We have pretty good communication between us, so we can probably work out a rotation for our divine sacrifice to work as a cooldown for the other.

Divine Guardian
: This talent no longer increases the amount of damage transferred to the paladin from Divine Sacrifice. Instead it causes all raid and party members to take 10/20% reduced damage while
Divine Sacrifice
is active. In addition, the duration has been changed to 6 seconds, however the effect does not terminate when Divine Sacrifice is removed before its full duration.
To me, the last line indicates you can pop Dsac, cancel the effect, and still maintain the 20% damage reduction.
Or am I just stupid? :p

The standard tank build has three floater points in the protection tree.
Since when 53-51 = 2?
I have solid 0/53/18 tanking build, and I just don't see where I can shuffle my talents to spend 3 points to Divine Guardian. Unless I give up Crusade... hm. Last ToGCr went bad, I was dragging aggro from active tank at Impaler... alot.

The three floaters would be the points you put in either DS/DG, Divinity or Reckoning.
Any proper tanking build should have 53 points in prot.

I believe that Blizzard's intention is that Divine Sacrifice will expire when the 200% damage is transferred, and that Divine Guardian will continue for the full 6 seconds after that.
However, you are correct, on the basis of the tooltip, that would be the CD that bhensley is probably referring to. Of course, there'd be a split second where you could get slammed by a raid AoE attack.
What I'm more wondering is how it stacks (if at all) - if you have 5 Ret Paladins using it at the same time, does the damage drop by 20%, by 67% (80%^5) or by 100% (20%*5)? I don't recall anyone reporting results from the PTR.

I'd be amazed if it wasn't 67%, Squish. I've hardly ever seen additive effects in this game.
As for the other stuff, I'm not sure. To be honest I'm not 100% sure what those tooltips actually mean.

Well, I think I should cease to run with DK OT... They are fragile and hardly can keep up with threat.

My
spec
that was created from your input. Honestly, I'm very happy with it and I don't see what I can shuffle. It may only be JotJ... but that damn valuable thing for all-tank fights... *sigh*
Faqke EDIT LOL@ all-green viscode...

This
might work. You do have to give up a point in crusade which might hurt a bit for ICC but honestly threat is not the biggest concern of prot paladins right now.

2/2 spiritual is only good if you raiding with Disc priest and has very little incoming damage.
To the rest... well, if only i could afford separate raiding spec right now, you're right, that spec would do the trick. I'll keep it in mind, thanks.

Are you honest when you're saying you dont see what you can shuffle?
Guardians favor - You are tanking in this spec right?
Imp HoJ - Once again you are tanking and not doing PvP, right?
Why on earth would you take points out of JotJ?

I'd be amazed if it was 100%, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were a flat 20% with no stacking either.

In the end of the day, I starting to hate wipes... especially on trash. Having interrupt CD ready by the end of the pull is the advantage I would not give away willingly.
And it helps in occasional world PvP too. Sadly Blizzard diminished it to scaring eachother on gatherable nodes or ganking lone fishermen.
Guardian's Favor is just single point - it could be placed somewhere else, but there's it serving some purpose. (Very small, to be honest, but still...)
As I said, i don't have dedicated raiding spec (not that I cheap on money, rather - I've yet to be in position, where other spec would have saved a day - if raid going down, it's usually complex issue, not really dependent to single specific talent). And JotJ is a part of my mitigation arsenal.

DiSac and Divine Guardian stack on your party to give them 67% less damage. That said, as a tank I wouldn't want to risk the extra damage.
You can make this macro and spam it twice to get a second active cooldown:
/cancelaura Divine Sacrifice
/cast Divine Sacrifice
