Alrighty, yes the Battlechest now contains all content up to and including Wrath of the Lich King. Then you would need to upgrade to Cataclysm then Mists of Pandaria. Prices vary according to any sales that happen to be running.
If you are creating a fresh account, create the battlenet account first. Then create a trial WoW account on Battlenet. Then upgrade your trial account to the Battlechest.
On the Account Summary Page on battlenet you will see a green arrow on the bottom right hand side of the WoW Icon. Click that to go to the upgrade screen. Alternately, I think on the login screen there is a link you can click to upgrade your account.

When you buy a battle chest im pretty sure each expansion has its own product key wich yo ucan add through your Battle.net account. Cata costs the same as battle chest becouse the expansions in the battle chest are *outdated* meaning it was smart for Blizzard to have it this simple. One day cata and mop will be in the Batlle chest as well so just be glad there doing a battle chest. When i begam wow i didnt buy the chest i bought them xpac by xpac so by doing this new players get to save money and get to catch up with the elites faster.
