In all honesty I have never really bothered to findout my dps I've just focused on leveling. I've also really only cared about finding gear with stamina and or intellect, recently I started trying to find good sp gear, However today I did Reg UK and found I was only doing 550 dps....is that normal for my lvl (69). I'm reasonably certian that its too low because like i said about the gear, I just never thought of looking for much else.
I was told today that i need to look for items with hit rating, agility, sp, stam, int, then spirit. In that order of importance. Is that true? Should I sacrifice armor for these? Example I was using the
Adamantite Chest with nearly 100 stamina in it between gems and kits I traded it in for a northrend torso drop with more armore but less stam...wise?
Also I use Seal of Wisdom alot, but recently I read something about using seal of vengeance instead...so I tried that. I usually try to hit with holy wrath first to get the cd started, then ill go with consecration, then divine storm (which puts seal of vengeance on all targets around me) then ill use crusader strike, if none of my cds are done i just wait and use them as they come available. I also use my judgements whenever i can and my hammer of wrath.
So I guess my question is am I doing something wrong? how should I choose my gear, is it possibly my talents? or is it just that 550 is normal for my level?
heres
me any and all advice is appreciated!

That gearing advice you got is wrong, unfortunately... A ret paladin's first priority should usually be strength, followed by hit, expertise, crit rating/agility, haste, and armor penetration in that order. Luckily, gearing is pretty simple -- you can usually just grab whatever has the most strength, and the hit and crit will come with it, along with a healthy dose of stamina.
Ret paladins do not need spell power anymore. They changed that mechanic with 3.0. All your power comes from strength now! Sheath of Light will give you enough spell power from strength to heal yourself effectively. Int and spirit are a waste.
As far as spells to use, Seal of the Martyr will give you the most damage output. It scales better than SoVengeance for ret. Try using Judgement of Light -- it scales very well with AP, and will make up for the damage you're taking from SoMartyr. If you're low on mana (I don't think ret gets low on mana), switch to Judgement of Wisdom. For soloing and PvP, you can use Seal of Command so as not to gib yourself.
For your DPS "rotation", you should prioritize Judgement! Get Improved Judgements; it's essential. It's important to note that ret doesn't really have a set rotation, but you should try to prioritize your skills in this order:
Judgement > (Hammer of Wrath) > Crusader Strike > Divine Storm > Consecration > (Exorcism) > (Holy Wrath)
Anything in parentheses is situational. Now, this might change in 3.1 when Exorcism will hit all targets... I dunno! Read up on the ret FAQ at the top of this forum. You might also check out:
