I've done some reading and browsing through forums about the priest changes in 3.1 but I still cant come to a conclusion as to what i should do in 3.1. Currently, all my gear is spirit and my gems are spirit, i just totally stacked spirit. As it is now, i do great healing and with mana regen, hardly go oom in any fights.
I just want to know if im gonna get owned by the patch and am if i do, wtf do i aim for in terms of stats/gemming? Sorry if this has been asked to death, I just gotta ask for myself.

From what I've read, MP5 is going to become more valuable than spirit after the patch. No one is going to know the real extent of the spirit nerf until the patch goes live, especially with all of the hidden changes blizzard likes to toss in at last minute.
I'd just wait it out and see, it's not hard to re-gem and re-enchant!

Sure as hell is expensive, but thats not even the case, id just like to know what im going to be dealing with and what to aim for.

Yes there is a spirit nerf, but there is also a Meditation buff (which only affects spirit regen) so I think our regen should be about the same i5SR.

There's a 40% nerf to spirit regen, but they buffed meditation to 50%. I haven't done the math, but most people say it's essentially the same as before on the PTR's.

It's exactly the same i5SR, but still a major nerf for o5SR... Say you got 1000 spirit and w/ Meditation (30%) your mp5 i5SR would be 300 mp5.
40% spirit reduction = the same as if you had 600 before. With Meditation (50%) you would still be at 300 mp5.
Still looking into if mp5 gear would be better for regen though, I know both holy and shadow depend on spirit for damage so I think ultimately spirit would be better for those two and discipline has always favored mp5 as they get squat from spirit.
Old formula for regen was regen = 5 * sqrt(int) * spirit * base regen.
New formula for regen is regen = 3 * sqrt(int) * spirit * base regen.

When I read this in the Patch notes I felt exactly the same way you did JeremiahJohnson, I also stack spirit. I was just like WT.....! I don't want 3.1 to go live, unless they get rid of this horrible nerf.

I should have guessed it was going to be 40%...since it gives us the same i5SR regen with Meditation's buff. All this really means is we need a little more regen than normal, and don't forget, Shadow Fiend gives us 25% more mana than before.

if you are playing wow for a game that is stable and will always be the same, shoot yourself in the foot.
One reason I like WoW is cause of it's ever changing nature, every 3 months it's like getting a new game, they change 50% of the rules make things better/worse. Just learn to roll with the punches, there are hundreds of other online MMORPGs out there that never get updates and just sit there and rot.
to OP: Yup spirits been shot the thing that defined a holy priest is gonna be gone the 5SR will mean very little lowering the skill gap between an ok holy priest and a great holy priest.
But as gear gets better do you really need all that spirit? after I hit about 1000+ spirit (from ungemed gear) I found it to be enough and just started switching to +int gems, cause Int helps your spirit preform better, plus replenishment is better for ya.
