Hey all.
I've been away from wow for a while now, last I played was 4.1, a bit of 4.2. took a break for a while and got slightly obsessed with Skyrim, but i want to get back into MMOs and I'm looking for some input.
Is wow worth coming back to? Or is it in that stage where everyone is waiting for Pandas and not really doing anything.
Also, Are Swtor or Rift worth buying? I'm not exactly a hardcore gamer, in wow i would mainly do pvp with friends and the occasional guild raid. I just don't want to put money and time into a game and end up coming back to wow.
Thanks in advance, cheers. :D

I am not currently playing WoW, so I don't know the state of it. I enjoyed Cata, but my guild kind of all drifted off in different directions after a few months, so I was left with no one to play with.
I tried Rift for a little while- I didn't play long enough to tell you about end game or the community, but I leveled to 30 or so, and the gameplay and mechanics were smooth. I enjoyed the story and the aesthetic, found the world concept interesting, and generally enjoyed leveling. Again, though, I was left by myself when everyone else got MMO-ADD.
I am currently playing SWTOR, and I like it a lot. It's very casual friendly, and honestly I feel more like I'm playing a single-player game than an MMO. The story and dialogue were a good add, IMO, and I plan on playing all 8 class archetypes to 50 just for the stories. Gameplay is pretty smooth- there used to be responsiveness issues but they fixed that in the first few weeks. However, if PvP is your thing, this might not be a good game for you- it's not really balanced yet. I haven't done much in the way of end game, but if the instances while leveling are an indication, it should be fun.

thanks for the input Elhonna, what you said pretty much agrees with all i've read from forums of all 3. theyre all good games, but wow seems to still be the biggest fish in the sea.
Swtor looks promising, I guess i'll just stick to wow for now until they add some endgame and fix the bugs.

Starwars is like wow without any real endgame (from what i have heard from people as im only 35 atm) and is more focused on the solo experience with the occasional 4man flashpoint or 2 or 3 or 4 group mission so its perfect for casual players.

Rift has the same thing as WoW now where you can play to level 20 for free, I believe. You can try that one out for yourself, at least.

There are currently 7 hard mode flashpoints (4man) and 2 operations (raids) that cater to 8 or 16 person groups with 10 operations bosses all together. There have been some leaked info regarding future patches and every one of the next 4 patches is slated to contain both further flashpoint and operation content. If PvP is your thing at end-game then there is currently 3 Warzones (battlegrounds) with more planed for those future patches.
Essentially what I'm saying is "without any real endgame" isn't true by whatever measuring stick you wish to use.
As to the topic,I think that Rift was the strongest launch of any MMO, ever and it has grown into a really solid game. Sadly, it's a solid game that I don't have any great drive to play but I would definitely recommend it (especially, as Pezz mentions, their free to level 20 offer). ToR is the new kid on the block which is both good and bad but I'm having a fantastic time with it. WoW is the seasoned veteran, you know what you're getting with WoW.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

All around? I was wildly dissapointed with Rift. The options of building your class however you wanted was interesting, but there was generally a 'best' style with the others being horribly inefficent, and most of them felt the same after the initially fun wore off.
WoW has really gone downhill with Cata. Lore, gameplay, leveling, and endgame all seem to have fallen apart and lost all appeal to me. And the fact that the next expansion is about Pandaria, Pandarens, introduces a nuetral race, and lacks any sort of big bad has finally caused me to completely quit the game entirely.
TOR, on the other hand, has proven rather fun once one figures out what the are doing. The conversations open up some truely hilarious moments, especially on my Inquisitors (although, my Imperial Agent and Trooper are no slouches either.) And I find myself loving several of the Companions, Khem and Qyzen especially.
My only complaint about TOR is the story's focus on the whole 'It's Up To You/Chosen One/One Man Army' style, although the gavt it is adsent from the all around amazing gameplay and fast-paces battles across amazing and greatly varied landscapes more than makes up for that.
The only other downside to TOR I can think of is the lack of choice in where to level, due to the way the story missions are made. But that is a minor point this early on, and will more than likely be addressed eventually by Bioware.

I've never really understood this criticism. Rift has no more choice and WoW only gained options when they sped up the low-level levelling process to the point that you could skip several zones on your way up. I think people gain this perception because there is a class quest-line on each planet but if you want to level entirely through Warzones/Flashpoints/Space-missions (^_^) you're free to ignore the class quests completely or maybe go back once you out-level them. I just don't see how it is any more restrictive than any other MMO, particularly this soon after launch.
