Having played both classes up to at least 30, I'd say personally I prefer Warlock because it can (potentially) provide a bit more of a challenge. Now, everyone will start whining, "wah wah wah warlocks have fear wah wah wah", not every warlock uses fear as a crutch, sure it's a tactic, same as feign death will spare a hunter from dieing in 90% of battles. Fear fails, and can be broken same as any other attack, if you're going to complain about fear, complain about Priest fear, anyway back to topic.

Warlock Demonology build can be a very viable PvE and PvP build. With soul link, demonic sacrifice, master demonologist and of course a staple in nearly every warlock build, instant corruption, a warlock can be a very fierce adversary in PvE or PvP. It all depends on how good you are at playing your class. I've only ever personally played Affliction 'lock, but I know a couple good Demolocks who are easily topping 2000 rating in arena, that being said, BM Hunter is also very good.

Beast Mastery hunter gives you very high survivabilty rate in PvE, your pet is a beastly (pun intended) tank, better then some warriors or paladins who seem to have just magically been given their characters that day. It does seem to be rather repetitive, but it's effective too, in PvP, if you aren't being focused on, with mail armor at 40 you can survive long enough so that, not only will you be doing a lot of damage, but your pet will be ripping them too, and when you're fighting clothies, they rip apart quickly.

Ultimately it's up to which you prefer most and have the most fun playing.
