I think it's largely a matter of personal preference ultimately. I had 4/5 Unleashed Fury for a while but respecced to Survival Instincts, which I think is the better choice. My pet's dps dropped somewhat of course but I found my personal dps increased by noticeably more than the difference.
That said, pet damage keeps going as long as your pet is alive, and if you have to dip into Viper for a bit your pet is still doing damage with a bonus so that is nice. On the other hand, I do rather like more personal dps and not having to rely on my pet if I don't have to. As I said, personal preference; I don't think one or the other is going to make or break your build.
