I don't buy that.
See Halo: Reach. Not only is it a prequel, but it's a doomed prequel, and they still tell a very satisfying story. The last mission, Lone Wolf is probably the single most epic one there.
You die.
That is a different deal. The heroes HAD to lose in that one, but the villians don't win; because later in the story, they lose.

But if the super-duper-awesome-mega-villian wins, everyhting ends. So the heroes need to get super-op to stop that from happening.
Which leaves the actually interesting Villians too little too late.

But super OP characters, whether they are the villain or the heroes, aren't fun; I mean really, what's the point of fighting against something that is just going to shrug off the attacks, be a one man army and cut through the enemies army like it's nothing, take no damage from the villain when they face off, and then walks away at the end, no loses on the hero side.
That's boring and there's no real point in trying to fight against them.

And the heroes like that commonly come from having equally OP villians.
See marvel comics...
There's a balance to everything Atik.
Epic is epic, sure, but balance, not too epic, not too weak, is more important. It's the struggle that counts.
Your missing the point.
Out Villians are TOO BIG. One win for them means the end of everything, so our heroes get too damn big also.
Ald hit the nail on the head with that link.

But there is still no drama: You know the Hero is going to win, so what's the point of even fighting at all. That's really why I just had Seeker plot a way out tonight; I didn't want to get dragged into a 'Who has the bigger OP' to win the battles, because no matter what, something is going to trump whatever the villain does, even if he were to go One Winged Angel....because then everyone else would go One Winged Angel. Heck, there wasn't even a chance of Ira escaping.....and that, more then anything, is something else that can ruin an RP.
I've made this point myself before.
When Skree was looking to power up Dag'rema with artifacts I mentioned that it would be too much, and it would just lead to an arms race, one I wasn't willing to contest in.
Hell, during the final Dag'rema fight, Skree told me he had to dial back Dag, even though he really just longed to break out a mass attack that would have smashed all of the heroes flat.
But if you want to see a Sue-riffic RP, with over the top villains, and only one sane hero, look up 'Siege of Stormwind'.....that was bad......really really really bad....

I think setting up a villain with full intention of them biting the dust works just fine. I mean, we all knew that Daggy would be defeated, but it still did not stop her from being a very real threat and my own personal all-time favorite villain, one that I loved to hate.

Heh, I don't know, I think we need to revive the most important rule of the RP's: You will not kill another player's toon without their express permission. May cut down on the whole 'Kill *name here*' as major plot points....

I still say the best way to stop this all is to cease with the "destroy everything everywhere" villianous plans....
I mean, SIlvia is hardly a villian around here, even though she technically would be nothing less in real life.

Well no, if a person wants a genocidal villain they should be able to have them...but at the same time, it shouldn't be 'OMG! That person was just introduced, yet we all know suddenly what their plot is! Quick! Kill them before they actually do anything!'; some of the 'known' things really needs to be dialed back as well; I mean, look at Aftermath, where only specific characters should have known about Kali's back story...yet, suddenly, everyone knew...that was incredibly irritating.

Well... if you mean Phillip and them? Lobo told them, iirc. And, at the least, Phillip was damn well listening.

I love oatmeal.
Especially oatmeal with candy in it.
nomnomnom
I've.... never heard of such a thing....
The fact I don't like candy would probably turn me off it, but I love Oatmeal...
