Would make more sense to keep out right fights from happening if they have their own areas.....otherwise, no real point in splitting them up in the first place.
If it is magic, then I highly doubt altering your appearance would work.
Orb of Deception and Orb of the Sin'Dori don't work, after all.

For all intents and purpose, Xadmas is now a Blood Elf Nobody; part of his Memory ability. He'll change back once he's out of the area, and it will be just as painful as it was the first time.

Disguises do work when they're... you know, part of game mechanics. That's part of the Quel'delar quest chain, if you've all forgotten that already!
Personally, I have to agree that it's not magic, and simply the guards kicking you out.
