I wish you best of luck, Mojo, even if I have no idea what this PSAT is.
(Yes, too lazy to google/wikipedia)

Think of it as one of
those
tests that they give you to try and make you fail so they can "weed out the children" of high school. This one is just a practice test to the real one, and in reality, should mean nothing, but it still counts for a lot of things.

Did you have to sign up for that or something? I never heard about it, and I don't have to take it.
Or is it just for sophomores? Everyone I know that took it is a sophomore.

I took it as a junior.

You can take it Freshman, Sophomore and Junior year, but the school district will pay for one year that you take it (that's only for us though). Any other times you want to take it, you have to sign up and pay a fee.
You don't "have" to take it, but it's recommended and allows you to gain access to National Merit Scholar crap (I think that's what it's called). And of course it helps you do better on your SAT.
While the test wasn't mind-numbingly difficult, I still stand by my idea that tests should be given to show what you know, rather than try to trick you in to making the wrong answer. A person shouldn't be represented by the number of correct answers they can provide. Tests show a very narrow view of the whole individual, yet I feel like they are the basis of a person, education, and the younger (possible entire?) society.
And even though I rant, I can't offer a solution to this "problem" that I see.

We actually use the ACT here, so that could be why I haven't heard of it too much.

I think it's the same thing.

SAT and ACT are two completely different tests with different scoring systems. SAT seems more popular in the east and coast, while ACT is used more in the mountain regions.

But its purpose is the same.

Nope, no it's not.
It's... doing something somewhere until I decide what to do with it.
