For starters, we're gonna be having some companions depending on our class. Death Knights will be getting Darion, Thassarian and Koltira for example.
As in, Koltira that was dragged off to be re-educated by the B!tch Queen?

VARIAN IS DEAD!!!!!!! O_O Anduin is now addressed as King of Stormwind in all his NPC appereances.
Vol'jin is missing in action, so now........ now........... Sylvannas is our Acting Warchief for the time being.

I'm willing to bet all of those are visions of some sort. A lot of these characters seem like odd choices for the story.

Oh some of them are for sure.
Llane Wrynn and Anduin Lothar, Broxigar most likely as well, but some of them definitely aren't visions. Turalyon, Magni, Calia Menethil, I wonder what roles they will play in the story to come.
I'm just really curious as to why Grom is listed as undead. Although it is most likely beta being beta.

Nope. He really is dead. Quest text says so. Also Anduin now is referred as the King of Stormwind. Unlike Vol'jin who specifically is mentioned as being MIA. So I get the feeling Varian actually dies on-screen.
Of course, beta is beta, nothing is in stone yet, blah blah.
I mean, back in 5.1 Anduin was gonna die, and it changed, so who knows.

Yeah...Here's the quest text though:
HE LEGION COMES! – THE MIGHT OF AZEROTH HAS FALLEN. King Varian Wrynn of Stormwind is dead. Warchief Vol’Jin of Orgrimmar is missing in action. Any remaining heroes willing and able to defend our world should report to the Violet Citadel in Dalaran and speak to Archmage Khadgar and the Council of Six immediately.
Fate of the Queen’s Reprisal – Take the Captain’s Log of the Queen’s Reprisal to Archmage Khadgar on Dalaran. Amongst the mouldering remains of the chest, you find the captain’s log. Its pages are partially intact and it contains interesting information about the possible whereabouts of Queen Sylvanas Windrunner, the new warchief of the Horde.

It lists Varian as dead, while Vol'jin as missing. Why make that specific distinction? if it wasn't confirmed, it would at least say "Varian and Vol'jin are missing". But nope, it very specifically says that Varian is dead. Which means some confirmation of a sort.

Yeah...and we thought Anduin was dead at first too, till it was revealed he was just hurt. I'm not believing it, especially after everything they've been doing with him. More then likely there will be a big reunion as we find him on the isle somewhere.(##RESPBREAK##)520##DELIM##Rankkor##DELIM##

See, the key difference here though, is that in the initial draft of 5.1, Anduin really WAS dead. Originally, Jaina did the Purge of Dalaran out of grief and a desire to avenge Anduin. It was later changed to Garrosh only thinking Anduin was dead, but originally, he truly was dead.
Also, back then, it was just one figure. But here there's 2 people absent and only one is specifically listed as dead, while the other is just listed as missing. So I ask again, why make the distinction? There's not much margin of error here, either Varian is dead, or he's not. If he's just disappeared, then he would be listed as missing just like Vol'jin. If they're listing him as dead, is because there's confirmation of it. There's an actual corpse. Otherwise, why else would they bother to specifically list them differently?
Understand that in normal circumstances I would not believe him dead either, but its precisely due to them NOT listing him as missing, while Vol'jin is, that leads me to believe he really did kick the bucket. Also, that letter he writes in the cinematic? It sounds an awful lot like a testament and good-bye letter.(##RESPBREAK##)520##DELIM##Rankkor##DELIM##
