EDIT 2: Am I right to think that this 'Heaven and Hell' dynamic is a new development from Wotlk's ending and Sylvanas' leader story? I don't think the waracraft afterlife has been this explicit since Warcraft 2.
Where is this mentioned?
Sylvanas dies twice in her leader short story. First is a flashback from her defeat in Eversong and her afterlife is all really nice. I'm calling it the 'Light'.
She would long after the 'Light' all the way up to the Lich King's defeat, after which she commited suicide and found out her new afterlife is 'Dark' and at the same place as Arthas'. Now that she actually fears death, the Forsaken are not just arrows in her quiver but rather a means to survival. And so are the Val'kyr.
Hmm. There might be multiple afterlifes in WoW, I guess.

Probably are: Trolls have the Loas that govern their deaths, the Night Elves are tied to the Ancients, Draenei have the Naaru, Orcs aren't from the same world and since they speak of the Ancestors returning to speak to them....

hey adamsm, I read your review of Wolfheart :P as usual, very well written, and summarizing the whole plot in an easy-to-read way. /thumbs up
That being said, I'm still unmotivated to read the book, pretty much what I had guessed of the plot already was there, but I was genuinely surprised of the change in varian.
No longer will he be a bipolar tsun-dere? O_o that's interesting.
Also, I'm busy ATM reading another book WAY more important. Turns out, I've never read Last Guardian, Tides of Darkness, Beyond the Dark Portal, or Rise of the Lich King (never found them online) but a friend of mine did, so now I'm finally reading the books I've missed so far.
You were right, Jeff grubb is a good author, I liked the Last Guardian, and made me feel even more sorry for Poor Garona U_U the universe just keeps piling heaps after heaps of crap on her lap. I'm starting Tides of Darkness tonight.
Also, there are mentions of an after-life in each culture on wow, after all Uther's last words were "may there be a special place in hell waiting for you Arthas"

Next novel out is the Jaina story, then the last part of the Thrall trilogy.....that one, not sure if I'm excited for it or not, since like I said, wasn't super impressed by Twilight of the Aspects.

I didn't like
Tides of Darkness
as much as
Beyond the Dark Portal
, to be honest.
Well, there have been mentions of a afterlife before. The Naaru saved that crusader's soul on Icecrown; when faced by death at the hands of Illidan in the Tomb of Sargeras, Naisha claims that Elune will guide them to the afterlife and so on but now the warcraft universe seems flat out manichean on a spiritual level. Especially with Velen's claim that 'The Light doesn't rule this world unopposed'.
This makes me think of a book series called
The Prince of Nothing
. Aliens land on the planet, and are fought by the native peoples. The aliens are scared and trying to flee, because they're a really freeloving/violent people, and being trapped on the planet made them part of that planet's afterlife, which is really fundamentalist Christian like. So, essentially, they're all damned.
It's a very interesting view, I must admit. I wonder if something of the same is in WoW.

Not sure, they haven't said yet; maybe we'll get really luck and Jeff Grubb will be the writer....I mean, probably not, but a guy can dream. If it is Golden, I hope they don't want a 'good' romance plot.....

I like his look, and since we don't really know where he was raised up after the Badlands, it's possible someone was looking after him in Uldum, which is where he got that neat looking gear.
As for the gender...really, that doesn't matter to me too much: I just want to know where his first mate is going to come from: Netherwing, Reds, Blue, Greens or Bronzes?
I think wrathion looks scary as hell :

Like, The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask level scary. Looks good, just scary at the same time.
I had thought the dragons couldn't mate with those of other flights - although, given the fact that Knakk wrote it... I think we may see them finding one final black egg and crossing their fingers that its female after they purify it. Or maybe we wont see another? Maybe Wrathion is all there ever will be, so that's why the other flights are so interested in keeping him on a short leash. Being a dragon, he'll practically live forever.

Actually, didn't Golden post a Twitter or Facebook something that she had gotten started on the Jaina novel a while back?

^ I remember hearing about this too. It might have been on one of the blog topics a few weeks ago.

yep, its golden writing the Jaina novel, that alone will motivate me to buy it :P I really love her writing (yes, yes I know she can't write any decent romance, but, hey nobody is perfect)
I didn't like
Tides of Darkness
as much as
Beyond the Dark Portal
, to be honest.
duh, cuz Beyond the Dark Portal was co-written by Golden :P and she's awesome.

ohh god no :S they better not pair her with varian. Bad enough that they sank the Thrall+Jaina ship, if they pair her with varian I swear I'm gonna puke.

And I was under they impression that they could. Given that Alextrazsa offered some females of her flight to Malygos to help him rebuild his flight.
Me thinks: the male determinate the color of the baby, so Wrathion mating with a female from another flight would still produce a black dragon.
I think wrathion looks scary as hell, like, The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask level scary. Looks good, just scary at the same time.
well duh, he's a black dragon, did you expected him to look like Mylune or something? made of rainbows and sugar cotton? maybe some bishie sparkles?
Just because he looks scary doesn't mean he's evil though. Look at the Knights of the Ebon Blade, like Darion, or Thassarian, or Koltira, they look quite creepy, but are the good guys. Ditto for playable Warlocks who can often look like the stuff of nightmares, and are still on our side.

Just thought of something. If Wrathion wants to differentiate himself from his father, wouldn't it make sense that he wraps himself in a ton of robes considering his father is platey mcplate?
His father also ruled Uldum and had several minions who were dress similiar to him.

So Golden is writing the novel.......and my interest just flagged a little after the disappointment I felt from Twilight of the Aspects......./sigh Get a new writer Blizzard! Jaina wasn't 'bad' in the Shattering, but other then her few brief interactions with Anduin, two interactions with Varian, and one with Thrall, she just seemed like a mobile plot point in that....and don't get me started on what Golden did to her in Arthas......
As for the idea of the Flights; yeah it seems like if it's an Aspect, the Aspect's flight will be the one to come out on top.
As for the model of Wrath....kinda meh in all honesty; not super impressed by his human form, but oh well; they can't all be like Alexstraza and Ysera.

I somewhy think his model will be using elven skeleton, him being that lanky.
kinda meh in all honesty
Have to agree, sadly. Especially after the amazing job they did on Noz.=(

The problem may be that everyone who would want to touch the Warcraft universe may be either busy somewhere else, want to write stories that are contrary to what Blizzard wants to write. I personally find it weird that the only two who are getting regular contracts are Golden/Knaak. Usually they have at least 3.
They should let the writers from the Legend series start sinking their teeth into actual books....since Tokyopop and Blizzard split ways, and we probably won't end up with any new mangas for a very very very very long time.....Hell, give the guy who wrote Warcraft: Death Knight a real book! His is one of the best.
