The source, according to the wowpedia page, is from the old official wow forums. I assume it was a blue post that no longer exists since the old forums were deleted.
It sucks sometimes.
You could always try looking at the
archive
I found a while back. I would have no idea what to look for though.

Okay, it's a Tinfoil Hat Edition...but some of that does make some spooky sense.

That does make an eerie amount of sense. I think this would be a great plot twist.

Plus, it would make sense that the Scarlet Crusade, which has a base in Tirisfal where a lot of their commanders hang around, also went crazy due to this.
Eh that craziness would be more in line with the Dreadlords screwing with the Crusade since the start, and the fact that their ranks are made up of bigots and racists.....but sadly, would give Voss more sue power.....

It would explain away the idea that undeath inherently makes people deranged
Undeath does not makes people insane. The Knights of the Ebon Blade are undead and they are quite sane mind you.
Well.....this is basically the only way to redeem to forsaken at this point, say "lol the old god made me do it".
And as far as I'm concerned it would be a very pathetic way to redeem them, I'm getting a bit tired of that old overused clishe.
Blood Elves were able to be redeemed without using that card.
Personally, I hope they are redeemed more in the way of the new generation of forsakens (the ones who were innocent humans who had undeath FORCED on them) pull a coup and bring an end to sylvannas and the val'kyrs.

Except for having to murder people or torture them, or they go insane.

Everyone's favorite T has the same, as it took him a long time to get over what he was forced to do(come on, killing your own mother?). And the rest of the Blades aren't too sane either; they enjoy their job way to much at times....such as the Gnome who screams at the Draenei AC member who get's dragged off by a frostwyrm, telling him to come back because they still have work to do...and she thinks absolutely nothing of bringing him back as a member of the Blade afterwards.

I didn't understnad that chain at all...
He just gets up, completely unphased at being undead, and rushed off to lead the troops? So random and rushed...

With all that Light being swung around, one would think SOMEONE would see the Dreadlord for what he is. Not only that but the bigotry only started around the time the Dreadlord took over which would push that further into the ground.
You're right in thinking that it wasn't necessarily Old God influence but it sure likely did not help.
Also, Voss' state could have her see the Old God's influence which would explain her desire to stay alive and yet not join the Forsaken. 'cause she's the only one out of the new undead that refuses to serve Sylvanas without going crazy (Admittedly, Redpath isn't crazy but his "elbows" comment is so stupid that I honestly believe he's bonkers.)
The Crusaders DID find out what the dreadlords are. The reveal caused the ones in Tirisfal to split while their eastern forces were slaughtered and raised as the Risen.

Then why are the Tirisfal ones also bigots/racists? I doubt it'd be that ingrained in their minds.
Because they know nothing else?
As far as they ever understood, the forsaken are pratically the scourge.
Notice how the tirisfal ones ARE trying to rejoin the alliance in their SM quests?

Not really; they work with the Alliance but the commander goes increasingly insane all through out it. And the bigotry was there when Renault took over; after he was made the new high commander, all non-humans were ejected from the ranks of the Crusade, as they were 'unclean'. And this was the same Crusade who would attack anyone they came across in the Plaguelands without a second thought, just because they could possibly infected.
And the Tirisfal are just as bad as they ever were: They created Voss to be the ultimate Forsaken/Undead killing machine, and when she was killed and raised up, they ordered her death once they realized she was still 'alive'.
