Nothing has been said that It will be the 'big bad' merely that It is behind Deathwing; if they wanted to, could leave it for the next expansion easily.

Okay, I'm looking for a canon source of this whole idea that dragons are super-OP and just oneshot everything in their way...
I can't find it. In fact, between Nef, Ony, and Maly; I've found quite the contrary. Hell, we have canon proof that the force that killed Onyxia wasn't even a large one.

It seems to be a sliding scale. Canon heroes are simply more OP than the normally powerful beings that exist, like being able to one shot Mannoroth. And for the first two we see now how effectively we really killed them.

And then we killed them again.
Hell, dragon bodies seem to be impossible to stop from rezzing. Obsidian dragonshire had their bodies raising OUT OF LAVA.

But seriously, dragons are hugely ancient massive creatures wielding ridiculous amounts of magic powers. I mean, remember how Sindragos one shotted all those Horde/Alliance soldiers in the Pit of Saron? Besides, when we fight the dragons we often have the advantage of a closed environment that they cant use to their advantage like Onyxia's caverns.

I sort of blamed the rule of cool for that one.
In my mind, dragons vary just as greatly as mortals. From joe-shmoe to Tirion, Thrall and Jania.
My dragons honestly get their asses kicked constantly. Locronos gets thrown around by a DK, lit up in a magical firefight with Phillip, and is simply manhandled by Fal'Lok.
