yhea but delt, even back on the third war, before the fall of silvermoon, the farstriders still held respect for the king, and their main duty was the defense of the borders of quel'thalas.
Farstriders aren't really civilians, but they still owe their loyalty to silvermoon above all else. Why else would sylvannas fight tooth and nail to protect the borders? why else would Alleria fight tooth and nail to protect the borders?

Because they care for their homeland, not for Silvermoon. Just like several U.S. soldiers I know care for their country, but don't give a crap about Washington.

still, barring the farstriders, having a proper king would do wonders to unify the nation, and ease the inner tension between the 3 major powers, this is sadly why Liandrin woud never be chosen as queen, since she's a blood knight, someone who isn't a mage/paladin/hunter/warlock/priest would be preferable.
as it would be neutral to all 3 major powers. Even if the Farstriders are independant from the royal house, having a proper King or Queen rather than a lame Regent Lord would efectively unify the nation once and for all.

Sadly, I think that while the king or a queen would do a lot of good to the Sin'Dorei, he or she will also cause the Magisterium's and the Order's power to decline.
However, not that Rommath defects and the Magisterium is temporarily leader-less, I think right now would be the perfect time to propose a king.
Speaking of the blood elves, which Quel'Delar ending is canon? 'cause having a sin'dorei find it in-lore would certainly improve the situation.

I think the Horde version is most likely canon.

Every (known) sovereign of the Sunstrider line was a mage? o.O
that's completely true :p I meant magister xD.
after all the members of the sunstrider line weren't involved much with the magisters, rather with the court of the sun.
I don't understand why you're putting so much weight on titles.
you wound't believe how much can morale boost a nation, just look at stormwind, how ever since the return of Varian has fought with even greater zeal, bigger conviction, inspiration, because people allways want a leader, an actual leader.
I'm not implying that Bolvar did a shoddy job as a regent, or that Lorthemar is doing a poor job as regent, but nothing beats the quality of having a beloved member as a proper King.
Imagine how the orcs would do without a warchief? or a dwarf clan without a High Tane? or the tauren without a high chieftain?
Leaders must allways be apointed, having a tempie is just putting a band-aid on the problem, in times of crisis, leadership REAL leadership can sink or save nations.

ohhh tricky question xD.
I think the Horde version is most likely canon.
a more detailed answer is needed, cuz so far there's 6 diferent endings to that quest.
Alliance ending with a class that can use swords. This ending is particulary bad, as a sacred relic of the sin'dorei, as sacred to them as the doomhammer is to the orcs, or the Lightbringer hammer is to the humans. To have someone who is not of sin'dore blood walk away with their most holy relic......... well is just not right.
Alliance ending with a class that can't use swords (druid/shaman/priest): even worst, not only someone who is not of sin'dorei blood walks away with the relic, this someone doesn't even uses it, instead he or she basically sells that holy sword for another weapon. this ending is quite an epic fail.
Horde ending with a class that can use swords: it's less bad since at least this someone is an ally of the sin'dorei, but it's still a bad ending because once more, someone who is not of sin'dore blood walks away with the blade.
Horde ending with a class that can't use swords (priest/druid/shaman): this one is the worst of the 6, because in this particular case, (at least from my POV) it's treason, I mean an ally of the blood elves who is not a sin'dorei takes the sword, walks away with it, and then sells it for a trinket :S
LAME
at least in the alliance version, the weapon is now on the hands of an enemy , so it's the same if said enemy keeps it or sells it, but having an ally claim the blade and then toss it aside because "it's useless" after all the effort placed on crafting that frikking blade......... well that's just as low as it can get.
Blood-elf ending with a class that can't use Swords (Priest/druid/shaman): much better than the other endings, but sad still because this blood elf still gets rid of the sword =(
Blood-elf ending with a class that CAN use swords: I like to think this is the canon ending, it's the best ending of them all, the sin'dorei reclaim an artifact that is sacred to them, their morale as a people is boosted by the hero wielder of quel'delar, the relic is on the hands of it's righteous owners, and will be passed down from generation to generation across many many MANY bloodelves.
because of the detail placed on that particular ending (the other 5 endings are identical) but this one is so diferent and special, I Like to think this is the canon one.

And now to think that it is possibly reclaimed by a power-hungry blood elf warlock... Squick.

It turns green and backfires. Get it?
Although I still believe that select few know what they are doing and are actually nice people, fighting evil with evil.

I vote for Koltira.

sad to say this but his chances of being king died when he did.

Koltira and Thassarian are hard not to admire. I mean, they manage to remain fairly decent men even serving the Lich King - unlike Orbaz.

I was mainly joking but well, we will see what will happen to the Blood elves leadership (if something happens at all).

I'd still love to have a new King, or better yet a Queen.

I would enjoy something at least, blood elves and draeneis are getting the short end of the stick with Cata, I hope they get something later on (be it in this expansion or the following).
