Why isn't he wtfpwning her? I though he was all powerful.
The screenies I linked show the aftermath of a trap the "reds" made for him. There's some sacred zone called Circle of Life which empowered Alextrasza so she was able to beat him one on one. (bit like the battle for Light's Hope in the DK chain)
Their duel in dragon forms later on doesn't go as well... Alextrasza gets wounded and would have died if Calen didn't help. (Deathwing gets wounded as well (again...) though)

My best guess: he's not content to simpy break her body, he also wants to break her spirit, he
needs
to break her spirit. Otherwise I don't think he'll be content with he revenge.
It's a classic villian mistake, gloating before attacking, but it may be because of some kind of psychological problem in their mind. Would you like to simply kill you emenies? Or would you also like them to know that everything they've ever done has been pointless?

That's been known for some time. Pretty much the one reason for the events in the expansion.
While we're speaking of this quest chain, there's another pretty big thing happening in it... Black dragonflight is no more since you help the "reds" kill off the last broodmother. :-(

That's been known for some time. :-) Pretty much the entire reason for the events in the expansion.
Yeah.. but that reverses... well pretty much everything about Deathwing: He pissed off the Old Gods during War of the Ancients when he wouldn't give up the Demon Soul to let them escape their prisons. /sigh Blizzard needs to keep things straight....

Well, there is that one cleansed black dragon egg from the Badland questline. Maybe it will hatch in the Broodmother of the new, no longer corrupted, Black Dragonflight?

I don't think driving him insane and twisting his mind and body necessarily means that they like him all out of sudden.
When you kill the broodmother (interestingly, it's Obsidia... you know, the one you killed in Ogri'la), she yells something like "Forgive me father... My brood was the last..." You could be right though, GVHB. Haven't tried Badlands yet so completely missed that one.

Well, people have been crying loud for Blizzard to ignore Knaak's books as official canon. Maybe they are listening to them?

I don't think driving him insane and twisting his mind and body necessarily means that they like him all out of sudden.If he's drawing on Old God powers though.... means they have their hooks in him again; and Deathwing hates that now, he refuses to be manipulated by anyone and wants to be the one doing all the manipulating.

Except if they do that, they remove Deathwing's CoMA: Getting blasted by the Highborne, the Legion and the Old Gods and still refusing to let go of the Demon Soul, taking all that damage and just keep on going.
Also, I didn't like the WotA books as much as the other Knaak ones, but they exist and will remain in Lore no matter what the whiners try to do.

He refers to the Old God as the world true masters so something has changed in Deathwing all this time between Day of the Dragon and Cataclysm (or it was retconned).

Yup, he's calling the old gods his masters and letting them corrupt him and what's left of his flight, so I don't think he's himself anymore in that sense.

Here's a thought:
The Demon Soul was destroyed, Deathwing was battered and bruised by the Dragon Aspects, hell, on Draenor he got his ass handed to him by Khadgar. I think he's pissed off enough to make a deal with the devil - or Old Gods in this case - for the power he needs to get his revenge on them all.
Here's the playout of what might have happened: while he's licking his wounds the Old Gods approach him once more with a deal; he'll get the power he needs to make his revenge a reality, and they get the world. Deathwing's so consumed with hate that he's not thinking straight and so agrees, maybe thinking he'll be able to control the power they give him and keep out of their clutches.
Unfortunately he underestimated them. The power they give him ties him to them in some way, and they use that tie to start breaking down his will. He tries to fight back, but as soon as he power started to increase it was too late to save himself. However, there may be a bit of self-serving Deathwing still in the depths of his mind.
It's like "Good Arthas/Bad Arthas" all over again, except both sides want to kill everything. The weaker side just dosn't want to be used by a greater power to achive that.

At least, now we will know no sorrow when we are forced to kill Deathwing. For if all of the above is true, Deathwing (not only Neltharion, but Deathwing) is already dead.

No it's the fact that rather then just leave him as the big bad threat he already is.... they have to make it tied into the Old Gods... AGAIN! For no good reason. Just leave Deathwing alone, no stupid Old One enhancements.

Indeed, as much as I like the Old Gods and their lore, them being behind all the evil on Azeroth is starting to bother me a little bit. There are a few exception like the demons and the Lich King but most of the bigger treats left on the world are Old Gods' minions/Old God themselves.
