I don't know why, but I'm getting a nameplate error only for one of my characters, so far at least. Anyone ever had it before? Here's what I did that I was hoping would fix it but didn't:
- I renamed Cache to CacheOld, Interface to InterfaceOld, and WTF to WTFOld.
- I re-did my UI layout (even though I didn't want to because I liked it lol).
- I've disabled all my addons. I deleted any UI addon that I was using before.
- I used the Scan & Repair option thing on Battle.Net.
I think that's about all I've tried. I've sent in a ticket a few days ago, but I'm not expecting a reply anytime soon, because of Dragonflight. Figured I'd try my luck here.
Finally heard from Blizzard. Told me what to do and it worked.

And what is that error in particular? Do the nameplates not show up, or do you get a Lua error?

Yup, its a lua error thing. If there was a way to post a picture I'd post the screenshot I took of the error popup. I wonder if I was to reinstall wow. That I didn't try yet. I'm willing to try anything at this point. Lol.

You can upload it to an image sharing site such as
Imgur
and share a link here.

I'd use that as a last resort, Scan & Repair should have the same effect.
However, in that case, you don't have to fully uninstall WoW. It should be enough, while WoW and Battle.net are closed, to delete the Data folder (or rename it, if you have space) in the main World of Warcraft folder (same level as _retail_)
Then restart Battle.net and let it redownload the data files. WoW becomes "playable" quickly again, long before it's fully downloaded.
If that didn't help, and you only renamed the old Data folder, you can cancel the download, delete the new Data folder and restore the old one, however a "re-install" like this can reduce your installation size as outdated files aren't re-downloaded.

Oh, and what did you do? For the benefit of other people coming here with the same issue.
