Elemental or Enhancement?

I've currently got an elemental shaman, and really like it, but have been wanting to try enhancement. However, I won't switch over if ele is beating the hell out of it in dps or something.
Just curious as to which of the two specs are performing better in different situations. Right now I'm still sort of at the heroic/easier 10man level, but I'd like to know for down the road as well.
Thanks for any insight!

Both will pull about equal dps on single targets. People say enh scales much better then ele and that enh will have better dps in end game fights but so far what I've seen on worldoflogs doesn't confirm this. On the tank'n'spank encounters both specs are pretty much even.
The elemental rotation is much easier then the enhance one.
Enhance is stronger on AoE since you are naturally in melee range and can use Magma Totem and Fire Nova while Elemental has to run up to the boss for it.
The kind of raid buffs you bring are very different, (weak and easily replaced by a warlock for the SP and any other shaman for the spell haste) caster buffs vs (unique and very awesome) melee buffs.
Elemental doesn't really have many good cooldowns for burst phases. Enhance has a lot of them.
Just try both and see what is more fun for you. Just be aware that your rotation will become seriously screwed if you are used to the easy elemental one. Managing half a dozen different cooldowns is not that easy.

Elemental starts off extremely strong, however it benefits from few raid buffs (basically only food and flask, and possibly a few of the mana buffs if you rely on Thunderstorm for mana regen) so it scales rather poorly. That being said, Elemental shamans are basically
walking buff dispensers
- a huge amount of spellpower, 5% spell crit, 5% spell haste, 3% crit on all nearby enemy targets, plus the utility of various other totems (stoneskin, mana spring, tremor, resistance totems, etc.)
A rogue is sapping my Dispenser!
OP: just switch try and see what style you like most

.
depends on which race u are honestly....as a elemental troll shaman i have 3 cd's for burst....elemental mastery, berserking, and the haste trinket from trimuph vendor, both increase haste substanitally which = lots of burst, not to mention procs from abilties, other trinket and relic...not saying ele is better, just stating it CAN have an insane amount of burst damage

As for burst, last time I checked ele has Elemental Mastery, enha has wolves. The other 'cooldowns' are not talent-specific.
With 3.3 I decided to convert my enh/resto shaman into ele/resto, and I quite like it. Ele has the benefit of being ranged - just stand there and nuke nuke nuke, not a care in the world. If you pull aggro, you/ohters have time to act about it. Mostly no whirlwinds where ranged stand. And lava burst numbers are pretty :)

Ok I didn't word that careful enough. The problem ele has with cooldowns is that it is very inefficient to use the fire totems. Enhance gains an awesome cooldown from the fire elemental totem and the spirit wolves are better then elemental mastery. Both can have racials and trinkets so those don't really count. Ele either can't use the fire elemental at all because they have to keep ToW down or they lose significant dps by running close to the boss to drop the totem which also greatly diminishes the value of that cooldown. For enhance that isn't an issue. Yes, the fire elemental is not talent specific but it is just much easier used by enhance.
There of course is a natural advantage in being ranged. Not having to run to bosses, not caring if they are kited and all that is pretty nice. On the other hand there also are fight mechanics that make life hard for ranged, e.g. fires that only get cast on them (think Gormock) or target switches that only ranged have to do (think infernals at Jaraxxus).
I really like both ... and healing. I want triple spec ;)
