I still don't think its the right solution, Squish raised a valid point on other non-invasive treatments for depression.
There are several alternatives equally effective than just pills, which not only end up inducing the placebo effect, but also often create dependency. Neither of those is cool.
Used appropriately, anti-depressants have their place in a treatment plan. Emphasis on appropriately, which is the main reason why I suggested an alternative, because her doctors don't seem to be on top of things. Not trying to say that CBT is better or worse than the drugs.
Edit: And what asakawa said, but he beat me by 3 seconds :P
You also have to remember that their are many types of "depression" and anxiety.
Many forms of anxiety are actual chemical imbalances in the brain, and are not related to someone's "mood". I have had to take Paxil and, when needed, Xanax for most of my adult life. My mom and my grandmother had the same imbalance. I am a perfectly "happy" person. I would not call myself "depressed" in any way. But without medication, things will just get "fuzzy" in my head for no reason. Thoughts just will not connect. And during a panic attack, I am completely unable to function.
And EluraE, I know exactly what you mean about the medication swapping. I went through several different ones until Paxil seemed to work the best. And each one had some pretty nasty side effects at first. I am just glad I finally found the right combo. It is very rare now for me to have any attacks, as long as I don't forget to take my meds.

Also unless you have studies to hand suggesting that depression medicines provide insignificant improvements above placebo then, again, it's a bad subject for laymen to contribute.
All I got is first hand testimony about it, my grandma suffered from depression, and yes I know depression is a lot more dire than just "being sad" but she was able to overcome her depression without the need of anti-depressants. Just plain old therapy sessions.
I dunno, I guess I'm old fashioned and trying to cure mental conditions with drugs rubs me off the wrong way. Didn't meant to say anything offensive, or to perpetuate stereotypes or mis-information, I was just sharing an opinion, I am by no means an expert on psychotherapy or any other field of medicine for that matter.
I'm sorry for my reaction last night Rankkorr. I was about to go to bed so I was probably being tired and cranky. People I love struggle with these things and it's difficult to see past those sorts of emotions sometimes but I'm sorry that my post read as a chastisement of you specifically. /bow

Others have thought I was female actually. Maybe it is the name though it's a Japanese family name, not a gender-specific "first-name". Interestingly I took it from a character that was male in the books but portrayed as female in the (better known) film versions so perhaps there is some deep androgyny to it.
So are you saying I should have a picture of a lady as my avatar?
People from the Warlock forum would probably remember me using this guy for a long time. Perhaps that would have made a less feminine impression. ^_^

With that icon the voice of Thor pops in my head very big and echoy comes in my head. Ether that or a very high thin voice that makes me laugh.

You definetly should have Tehehehehehehehehehehehemo as your avatar. Because Teemo is the cutest yordle in the world. Jokes aside, I really like your current avatar, though I suppose it is getting a little old. Maybe another chess icon?

That wasn't why. I was really just making a chess reference. I know you're a man.
