The one good thing about BoE epics at this level is that they provide a nice marketing opportunity. Well-geared raiders (or raiding guilds) can make a bit of extra cash from people who don't have the time or inclination to gear themselves up in 25-mans. Sort of like what's happening with the BoE valor bracers. The more active raiders make some extra cash, and those that aren't doing as much raiding can still gear themselves up to some degree. Everybody wins. Except pugs...but that has nothing really to do with BoE epics, as others have stated.

If you fear people needing the boe and then selling it, you can just ask them to equip it so that it gets bound to them.

Well, if it was a pug, fair do's to be honest. i wouldn't really be shocked to see that happen, even if it were to me. Just take it on the chin and join a guild.
Our general rule is that if a BoE raid drop isn't best in slot, it gets sold and all proceeds go to the guild bank.
Then on wipe nights, GB repairs are enabled - Works really well imo, and something like this would be more difficult without the BoE drops spread around the loot tables :)

This brings me to an idea, even though it’s kind of off topic and probably has been brought up before.
I know we have some addons for this, but why can’t blizzard juice up the master looter interface a bit?
Like give the master looter an option on what class can roll on a certain item, or just making it a raid roll. Give the Master Looter and everyone in the party the clear winner in the roll. Like a system message or something. And then if the ML decides the winner is rolling on main spec, he gives them the item.
It won’t be perfect of course. But will eliminate some errors.
