Sub 1500 rating, the system is "broken" IMO. Make a new team, and get it above 1550, and your rating will stay more stable. Also, if you partner or you have sunk a few arena teams in his past, his/your hidden rating will be very low, and will force your team rating to drop to "catch up" with his rating by dropping the team rating a lot faster than raising it.
The only way to solve this is to win a LOT of arena matches, as this is the only true way to get a rating to "catch up." Losing doesn't close the gap from what I've seen, it only sinks the team raiting(or higher rated player). You will be paired up against teams with horrible ratings, and should be able to handle a lot of them.
Example- I had a 1700 2v2, but my partner hasn't shown at all, all week. Played with another mage, and every time we won, it was 2-9 team rating points, while his PR went up 20-25 points. Every time we lost, the PR and team rating went down 12-21 points, and I didn't see a difference in his loss vs the team's loss(at least didn't notice, and he hovered at 1500-1550 the whole time).
This means, you can play arena all you want. You really, REALLY don't want to sink a team to 1.2k or less. Digging out of that hole is painful and slow. The hidden rating system did help people who are working together, and have equal PR/Hidden rating to stay more stable while climbing thru the ratings. It hurts people who have a bad PR/Hidden rating, trying to get onto a descent team and don't win the majority of the time(2-1 or more).
The double edged sword does 2 things. Encourages people to stay at a higher rating, and moves lower rating people up really fast when they have a skilled partner. You can see this when you look at SK-gaming. There are teams where one person has a record of 130-50 at 2200 rating, and his partner has 61-20, with a 2145 rating.
