Farming motes in Nagrand is easy money as well as the other drops and/or skins from the nearby mobs there. I have a circuit there that I run that includes elementals, clefthooves, ogres, other beasties, and about five or so herb nodes that respawn every so often. Between motes, skins, herbs, green (uncommon) drops, and other drops from mobs you can make between 50-150g an hour if you are the only one farming in the area. That doesn't include running daily quests or whatever other activities you have.
That said, though, this circuit I thought I discovered myself but it's run a good bit. But you can find your own area.

Farming mobs like that can be a *bit* slow for a prot warrior. That said, I farmed my mount as a resto druid pre-2.3 so it's definitely doable. Just do the 6 dailies in Skettis/Ogri'la and maybe the battleground one as well and you'll have the mount in a month or two. It just takes a bit of patience.

Do you have a gathering profession?
I started my grind with 400g in my pocket. I did all the dailies I could every day. In addition to that, I mined Fel Iron in Hellfire Peninsula. You cannot go anywhere for over a minute without seeing a node on your minimap, so I mined whatever I saw. In addition to Fel Iron, which sells for about 12g a stack on my server, I also got a lot of Primal Earths and Primal Fires through mining. After 2 weeks of that, I had my 5000g.
It's not hard, it's just very time consuming. As Prot, I would recommend you put some DPS gear on along with two 1-handers and spam Devastate, you will find that it does some surprisingly solid DPS. The important thing is to make sure you do not splurge on anything you do not truly need, and just keep saving.
