Unlocking Allied Races
In a
BlizzCon 2017 interview
with community sites and podcasts, the topic of Allied Races came up.
We learned that you must do certain things to unlock each Allied Race. You can start working on these requirements
right now
.
The example given was Highmountain Tauren, one could imagine you'd be required to do the
Highmountain questline
and have some reputation with the
Highmountain Tribe
.
Doing these requirements on your main character replaces the "level 1 starting experience." Through completing certain content, you prove your worth and bring the seasoned characters from Allied Races into your faction.
The demo included
new areas in Stormwind and Orgrimmar
with options to recruit varied Allied Races. This will likely lead to a questline showing how you win them to your faction.
The Allied Race starts questing at level 20.
Based on the Highmountain Tauren example, we can speculate on what is required for the other factions:
Lightforged Draenei
likely involves some form of
Army of the Light Reputation
and completion of part of the
Argus Story
.
Void Elves
, led by Alleria, likely also involve the
Argus Story
and perhaps reputation with
Argussian Reach
.
Nightborne
likely require some
Suramar Questing
and
Nightfallen Reputation
.
Class Combinations
The
official World of Warcraft website
shows class combinations for four out of the six Allied Races:
Lightforged Draenei: Playable classes are
Guerrero
,
Paladín
,
Cazador
,
Sacerdote
,
Mago
.
Highmontain Tauren:
Guerrero
,
Cazador
,
Chamán
,
Monje
,
Druida
.
Void Elves:
Cazador
,
Mago
,
Monje
,
Sacerdote
,
Pícaro
,
Brujo
,
Guerrero
.
Nightborne:
Cazador
,
Mago
,
Monje
,
Sacerdote
,
Pícaro
,
Brujo
,
Guerrero
.
So far the Alliance only get Allied Race Paladins, while Horde only get Allied Race Shaman and Druid.
In
The Lost Codex Interview
, we learned that the Zandalari can be Druids. This has sparked a lot of discussion as none of the known Alliance Allied Races can be Druids, and it's unlikely that Dark Iron Dwarves fit the Druid fantasy.
In an interview with
The Starting Zone
, Blizzard confirmed that Highmountain Tauren Druids have antlers.
In an interview with
FinalBossTV
(
full transcript here
), Blizzard discussed adding Death Knights to Dark Iron Dwarves:
Q: Currently no allied races can be Death Knights. Are there any plans to change this?
A: Because the experience with allied races begins at 20 and hero classes (DK’s and DH’s start out at a much higher level) it does present a hurdle that will need to be overcome. This is still something being considered for some of the allied races (such as Dark Iron Dwarves for example).
Racials
The Lightforged Draenei and Highmountain Tauren racials were previewed on the demo floor.

In an
interview with Polygon
, Blizzard revealed that "void elves will have a short-range teleport."
