Professions are supposed to give an advantage, but not a huge one, and all profession should be mostly equal in what advantages they bring you (in terms of stat allocations).
JC was largely better than the others, and thus got brought down to the level of the others.

No, because the Titansteel stuff is BoE and thus useable to any profession. OP is talking about the true profession bonuses (Blacksmithing gets extra Sockets).

I am a jewelcrafter on two characters and I can honestly say that I'm glad they nerfed JC.
Why? I have three 80's and was about to take JC on the third one just because JC is that good, it was really annoying because it felt like I had no choice to what profession I want to take to benefit my character and if I want the biggest stat boost I HAVE to take JC.
JC will still be a powerful boost to your stat even after the nerf, and I think maybe soon they will make "hybrid" gems for JC's for example 14 strength 18 stamina and also make more powerful gems that require two dragon's eyes to make a +35strength gem for example.
Like they did in black temple, icecrown bosses may drop JC recipes to make ultra powerful gems that require 2+ dragon's eyes so JC "scales" with raiding, for example.

A while ago I heard somebody saying that they heard from a friend that a lot of WoW is about the small bonuses adding up to something significant. Why enchant your cloak with 12 haste rating, when you have hundreds of it already? Why get 85 attack power to a weapon, when you are at over 3,000? Or why gem yourself with 16 agility, when the bonus it provides is...negligible?
The whole point of the professions is, I believe, to be able to get something small from each profession, even the ones you don't have, and make those bonuses beneficial at the end.

... they said for endgame there would not be a "Gotta" have profession. Does that even make sense?
If so would you call that balanced?
The professions are more balanced now than they ever were in TBC, imo.
(I've heard "lol engineer qq" more than any other profession, but I can't validate the truth to that.)

Why wear gear when it only gives me armor and some stats? Thats fairly negligible.
