Glixel.com Interview with Ion Hazzikostas on the WoW Token
13.02.2017 um 18:08
glixel.com has posted
another interview with Game Director
Ion Hazzikostas, this time about the WoW token's
expansion into other Blizzard services
and games. Here are some highlights:
Watcher describes this new version of the token as "Kind of my baby"
Original token was introduced in response to what "players wanted"
Suggests that it (the original token) has been successful at reducing the illegal gold-selling market: "One of the original purposes for the token, and something that it’s served very well, is undercutting the illegal gold selling market that exists within the game."
Overall regarding the original token, they viewed it as "harmless" to the economy and just something that made people happy.
Has been asked for "the moment the token was introduced"
When asked what it's being used for, Hazzikostas states: "It’s a bit early to say for sure. Anecdotally, I’ve heard – and I know – people who have used this to consolidate characters that were spread across multiple realms. We’ve seen an array of things. I think most of it is within the WoW ecosystem."
He does not think people will come to WoW solely to farm gold for items in other games: "The reality is that the token is for people for whom WoW is their primary game."
Relation to D3 RMAH: "The removal of the real money auction house in D3 actually made this possible. We never would have considered token-to-balance conversion if that existed, because it allowed you to cash out of the game. We’re not looking to create real wealth here. We’re not looking to create real dollars, we’re not looking to become a bank."
