True, to a point. Let's not forget Egypt and Rome. Arabia also had math, which plays a big role. Greece was very important, but couldn't have done it alone.

The Arabs were extremely adept at math and created the most practical numeric system ever, "Arabs also had math" is a gross understatement.
Looks like Ivokk came into the middle of a conversation. I'll explain it for him. Saggy was thinking that rational thought origionated from Greece, so that is where western civilization got it. I was explaining the different places that had it also. Egypt had paper. Rome had engineering and social military. I THEN ATTRIBUTED MATH TO ARABIA. The sentence, when in context, doesn't give credit to other civilization for math, it just explains how arabia was an important civilization, one reason being because of its math. Please take me in context. Flipping out because you didn't take the time to read the conversation makes you look foolish.

I'm afraid you aren't making your point that Greece = Beginnings of Rational Thought.

The thing about math is that, for as logic as it may be, it's not rational. In math you see facts, and accept them, because, in the end, there is no explanation needed for why 1 + 1 is 2, it just is.
In Greece they first started to ask "why", and that makes Greece the first on rational thought. Or maybe we just have different meanings for rational and logical.
A very crude example of math. The invention of math was perhaps the most philosophically genious breakthrough of mankind. I can't imagine some guy, sitting in his hut, figureing out the numeric system. Simply amazing. Greek philosophy, while remarkable, doesn't hold a candle to the sheer rational thought needed to invent math.

I would actually say Persia.
India also created indoor plumming, so IMO they had the most common sense.
What about Roman's system of public baths? That did wonders for sanitation.

I don't think so. Math is something that is all already here, we just have to realize it, and symbolize it, doesn't require questioning, more like, investigation. Social philosophy, on the other hand, is something to which the answers are all hidden in the butt cracks of Hell, making it oh so much harder to find.
