i currently play main spec demo. i do it for the raid buff and the lower threat (our tank is lovely but her threat isn't everything i'd like it to be)
the spec and rotation can be found in the stickies (start with the FAQ and follow links from there for further details).
basically you use all DoTs and spam shadow bolts. pop meta whenever it's up unless the boss you're on needs bursting at some point in which case you save it for heroism/bloodlust.
before you pop meta drop your teleport circle. then meta > charge > immolation aura. when meta ends teleport back to range.
at 35% start weaving decimation procs into the rotation. this is where this spec requires mastering. you need to weave SB and soulfire 1:1 and to do that you need to be at max range and do SB > SB > SF > SB > SF > etc.
it takes some getting used to but clicks once you get it.

my personal DPS isn't entirely inspiring but you need to think of it as taking one for the team. it's a bit of a knock to my ego since, despite myself, i can't help but like being at the top of meters. that said, my personal damage is far from embarrassing and the amount of burst you can apply on demand is really useful.

I am a Meta/Ruin Lock for my guild too. I usually put around 4.5k DPS. I don't mind topping meters, I like helping the guild out more. I try to pop Meta Whenever available to help my personal dps, as well as Demonic empowerment. I can't compete with the Mages or Destro locks, but I can stay in top 10, usually 10th, but who's counting? ;)
It's also a plus when your guild downs new content and you take a screen shot and all you can see is the big demon in the back standing out!

They've mostly covered it. You run with the Felguard - I've seen mine do 1k DPS by himself, so keep him alive. The rotation is easy for bosses - Put up a curse of your choice, Corr, Immolate, then SB spam until you have to renew the dots. I tend to pop Meta right off the start for the extra damage you get while in that form--I don't always charge in with Immolation Aura up (because some bosses, particularly Ulduar, have melee-range damage I don't want to get mired in because I'm unfamiliar with it), but when it's talented and glyphed you can usually get 2 and sometimes more Meta forms off during a single fight.
For the Soulfire weaving at sub-35% I have Power Auras installed and I play an audio sound (nicked from Necrosis, which I no longer use) telling me when Decimation has procced. This way I don't even watch for anything...when I hear my sound, I know my next cast should be a Soulfire, and I should begin weaving. To do it best, you do need to stay at max range, and start out with SB, SB, Soulfire, SB, Soulfire, SB, Soulfire, etc. (You start with 2 SBs due to the travel time between you and the boss.)
The part where Demo gets tricky is if there's a lot of trash. You have GREAT trash AOE. I suspect the best out of all classes and specs. For trash (and yeah, I know trash DPS doesn't matter, but I like doing 10k DPS sometimes) you put up Curse of Agony to proc Molten Core, then you pop Meta, charge into melee range of a pack of mobs, put up Immolation aura, and stack Rain of Fire on top of it. NOTE--very, very, very threat-high, so when you do this you WILL gain aggro unless your tank out-gears you by a ridiculous margin. So I always put one finger over Soul Shatter when I rush in to do my awesome trash DPS. The reason this is tricky at first is because as a lock you're just not used to going into melee range, so it's very weird to do a warrior-charge into it, and you have to be on your toes with your threat dump otherwise you can drop dead before the tank or healer realizes you just grabbed all the aggro. A Demo lock AOEing trash without their finger on Soul Shatter is a easily dead Warlock.
Demo doesn't do the high personal DPS of destruction (unless on trash), but it has 2 major raid buffs (5% crit debuff on target, and 10% of your spellpower-to-raid-when-demon-crits Demonic Pact, which is better than the shammy totem when your spellpower is above 3000) which make up for it.
Edit: Yeah, demons don't do 1000k. I think my Felguard must have planted the suggestion in my mind. But they do do 1k DPS. :)

Talent Build
- Taken from my post to similar question on the Warlocks Den...
Talent Build
That is the Deep Demonology build that I have used ever since I have been hit capped.
(After the first rotation example it will be assumed that I have Glyph of Life Tap proc'd before the pull)
My rotation on single and dual target small trash is LT (Rank 1) before pull > Corr > Imm > Shadowbolt Spam > Soul Fire > SB > Soul > Repeat last two steps until trash is dead.
For both 3 + target small and medium trash I throw out three to four Seeds of Corruption and then cast Rain of Fire til mobs are dead.
For medium single or dual target small trash I simply put either CoE or Curse of Agony out once and then use the rotation specified in my first explanation.
For large single or dual target trash or bosses that last less then one minute I use the follow rotation: Curse > Corr > Imm > Shadowbolt Spam > LT and Demonic Empowerment simultaneously > Metamorph & trinkets > run towards target and cast Corr > Immo > Immolation Aura > Shadowbolt Spam > LT > Curse of Agony (if used) > Corr > Imm > etc..
Throw in SB/SF weaving rather then shadowbolt spam, rest of rotation stands. DE used as off CD
Switch over to next target saving a Decimation proc, cast SB and use Soulfire. Repeat rotation
For 3+ large trash I throw out out SoC for each mob > LT/DE > Meta % trinkets > Immolation Aura > Shadowflame > RoF till mobs are down. LT if glyph proc is down.
For bosses that last more then one minute (aka current 3.1 and 3.2 raiding content):
CoE/or no curse > Corr > Imm > SB Spam > LT/DE > Meta % trinkets > (use aura rotation if it is save to be in melee range) > CoD (if using curse) > Corr > Imm > SB Spam > LT > repeat til Decimation procs >
Meta rotation if possible > SB > SB > Weaving > LT/DE > Corr > Imm > Weave > repeat.
Notes: LT about one second before Corr falls off.
I use Meta as often as possible. I only save it if I know I will not have it off CD for heroism or the start of my Decimation weaving phase, or, very importantly, both.
When in the Decimation phase, before you LT and reapply dots, use your Decimation proc so you will have the next proc up when you shoot of your next SB, allowing you to jump back into 1/1 weaving.
I standardly use CoD every 3 rotation. so CoD > next rotation > next rotation > CoD
Hope this helps.
PS. Since I can't start any new thread yet I must ask. Why is there so much QQ about Meta/Ruin? Yes Demonology needs the most buffs out of the 3 trees, but seriously. I've been starting to do 4k in 10 mans. That, and I have done the same or more dps than any other lock period that I've run with. Is it just my server or what?
I think that covers how I play my lock ^_^
As far a PvP spec goes, my experience is very very minimal, but its the same as this. My second spec is reserved for solo'ing old raiding content.

I'm open to criticism, but if you don't give me more then that as a response, then I can't take you seriously.
And yes, its a PvE spec, I don't bother with Demonic Pact.

indeed. the only thing that demo has going for it right now is it's superior raid buff. if you skip DP then you're just choosing a sub standard spec. fail.

They've mostly covered it. You run with the Felguard - I've seen mine do 1000k by himself
Wouldn't he one shot bosses?
Heh. Typo. Good catch there! ;)
@ fmatt - I just looked at the demo spec posted by Metalfenrir, and it's a valid PvE spec, although personally I run with Demonic Pact.
Edit:
This is what I run with
I've tried a varient w/out mana feed and w/ points in improved demonic tactics, but my demon ran out of mana and I got very frustrated with the larger pushback.

if it were just a self buff why would anyone pass up 300-450 free spellpower?
as it is it's a raid buff. you'd be mad or stupid to pass it up. a meta spec without DP is NOT a "viable" spec.
if there's already a DP lock in your raid then you don't want to be playing demo. if you must then 41/30 is probably a better choice.

While what your saying is correct, until recently my guild had an ele shammy, so I didn't point into DP.
I will be respec'ing into DP due to the t9s2 bonus. I'm not that stupid :p

ToW gives 280 SP. how many demo locks only have 2800 SP these days? in raids we push well over 4k with relative ease.

I've also been thumbing over the idea of a demo lock as the next 80, i play a bear about 90% of the time so i'm fond of being a little bit more sturdy than the other guy and wouldn't mind slightly lower personal derps in exchange for buffing the entire raid's derps.
from what i've gathered sp and crit are top dogs for demo
figure with current endgame it'd be something like
this
my #1 concern is threat management, deep demo can't easily spec either the 10% affliction or destro threat reduction talents so is attacking the tank's primary target all there is to it under normal circumstances?
